  1. No one said they were, genius That's pretty much the running ideas that the Cubs can pull off if they can't sign Dunn. If they can't afford Dunn then it's tremendously unlikely they'll be able to afford either Fielder or Gonzalez next year given the demand that they'll command. If they sign someone like Pena I'll bet it's a multi-year deal since they'll be able to get him cheap. We all know it's not that they "can't" afford Dunn, they're choosing not to. Consider that Ricketts is probably as baseball-dumb as the average fan, he probably thinks this team can't possibly compete next year, so he won't spend money this year. So why would they be any closer to competing the year after that? I just think what relatively little money there is right now is tied up in priorities elsewhere.
  2. It all depends on what money the Ricketts can/will spend, and I'm decidedly not confident that they're going to be dishing out any gigantic contracts in the next 2-3 seasons.

  4. They're not getting Gonzalez or Fielder, morons.
  5. BOW BEFORE MY BOLD PREDICTIONS.
  6. thanks Fred You may bask in my boldness if you wish.
  7. Bears win, 31-20. BOLD PREDICTION.
  8. That is some specious reasoning going on there. The question posed by the article certainly can be argued, but they're stretching that percentage for all its worth.
  9. [expletive] love this team.
  10. Optimistically, about two weeks. Realistically, probably a little longer. Damn. For some reason I thought he was going to be back around the end of this month.
  11. When is Boozer supposed to be back?
  12. Maybe they were counting on him to not be a greedy idiot.
  13. Yeah, calling the Cutler the weak link is absurd. He makes his share of mistakes and dumb decisions, but he's by far the strongest part of the offense.
  14. The receivers are the weak link right now.
  15. Nippon-Ham is the company that owns them, since Japanese baseball allows such corporate labeling, so "Fighters" is not their nickname; that's the team name.
  16. I'd be curious to see how/if that could work out for the Cubs. On the one hand you lose the tourist/visiting fan factor. On the other hand you gain a huge suburban market of people who don't want to trek downtown. On the other hand, as soon as you start getting out of the city you start finding more and more fans of neither the White Sox or the Cubs.
  17. Probably. Same people that cried about the Under Armour logos and the Bud Light Bleachers.
  18. Something like "...presents Wrigley Field" would be fine. Anyone who has a problem with that when it could bring in some serious cash is hopeless.
  19. Nice defense.
  20. OK, the lob 3 was reversed.
  21. GooooooooooooooooooooooooooooodDAMMIT.
  22. Rose with the 3 working.
