As terrible as the team is I really have no desire to see him put on the DL or sent down; it seems like just letting him struggle through it is the "best" thing to do. I guess it's a good thing he's having these growing pains in a throwaway year; hopefully that's all they are.

That's not true at all. It's unlikely a team would be willing to overpay enough to justify moving him, so you'd likely only be trading him basically just for the sake of trading him. And again, they shouldn't be trying to punt next year. Since Garza, Feldman and Villanueva are all likely to be moved the smart move would be to hold on to Wood.

Uh, I really hope/assume they're not planning on trading Wood. They do need to actually try and field a team next year that isn't completely horrible, stunning as that concept may be.

It really doesn't matter if they do or not; The Plan doesn't hinge on the paltry, expensive return they'd get for a year of old, breaking down Soriano. It doesn't hinge on it, but every little bit helps. THE POINT, o obtuse one, is that Castro having a bad year and Soriano having a bad year, in 2013, are vastly different things. If Soriano stinks the rest of the way it really doesn't impact things. If Castro stinks, they're fucked.
