  1. Sounds about right; I always think back to how he said he was "blown away" by Ricketts' pitch to get him to come here, and I have to think that a huge part of that was emphasizing how they'd be able to modernize and upgrade the ballpark like Boston did and how much money that would bring in. While it makes sense that Theo would be relatively broadsided by the way things have played out, it's very disconcerting how stymied the Ricketts are, and it just again makes me worried that Theo and co. could be out of here sooner rather than later if the logjam doesn't clear up soon and the team doesn't turn around pretty damn fast.
  2. Damnit. It'd be really funny if we were ready to drop a $75m posting and this costs us the player. Epstein's going to start believing in curses soon. That's exactly what I was thinking. I definitely think the Astros(and White Sox for that matter) would ante up 20 mill and the contract needed to get him. In no way do I think it's fair to give last place teams another advantage and another reason to tank though. If 20 mill is set, I hope he gets to pick who he wants to negotiate with. At least we could try communicating we'd give him the most money on his contract.(whether true or not) Outside of that, giving him the true "staff ace" title is all we've got possibly going for us, in my mind. NY and LA both have much larger Asian populations and better current rosters. It's almost as if maybe fielding a team that isn't a Frankenstein's-monster collection of nightmares just might help bring in better players...
  3. Hell, Pat needs something; he seemed really off of his game last year.
  4. Who the hell is #23? His head is tiny.
  5. I say let Hollandsworth have it; if anyone deserves to be driven madness by the collection of despair on the field it's him.

  7. Actually you've had people out there from the FO talking exactly about how they're dealing with financial limitations/restrictions. So you guys think they can spend but are choosing not to and sabotaging the MLB product and castrating attendance and Theo is out there complaining about it to pretend for some reason? No, I think they're fucked. I'm disagreeing with your statement from a different standpoint than goony's, but it's sill faulty to say they haven't had anyone out there saying they can't spend.
  8. Yeah, I'm pretty surprised with the reaction here too. Why? Even when one is resigned to the reality of the Cubs' limitations it's still frustrating when they miss out on a player they could have really used. Sure, almost all signs pointed to "no," but there's always the hope for some kind of surprise. I just didn't have any hope they would get such a player, so it wasn't the least bit surprising to me. When I saw the story there was no feeling of, "damn I really hoped they get him," because they have made it abundantly clear they aren't even trying to sign guys like that. I'm frustrated as hell about the way they are running this team, but because of that I also had no thought they would sign him, so it's hard to get disappointed about any one player they "missed" on. I cant help having feelings, man.

  10. Well, he was just about a 6 WAR player in 2013, so I'd have to guess that that at least falls in the realm of "approximating."
  11. Yeah, I'm pretty surprised with the reaction here too. Even when one is resigned to the reality of the Cubs' limitations it's still frustrating when they miss out on a player they could have really used (especially when it's one with connections to the FO). Sure, almost all signs pointed to "no," but there's always the hope for some kind of surprise.
  12. I am baffled at the number of people who want to be the Rays from the top to bottom. Just because their talent development is good doesn't mean that not being able to pay top dollar is also good.
  13. I saw that, David...tell me what to feel, dammit.
  14. Sometimes you can't control hope, you robot monster.
  15. So scared that the FO is outta here when their deals are up; I cant imagine that not having money was something they wanted and that the Ricketts have botched things big time.

  18. Well, that's just lame as [expletive]. I think I'm going full anti-stat.
  19. I did appreciate the the 11-whatever guys on ESPN 1000 shutting down a caller talking about the "QB controversy" as definitively as possible today. Just pointing out how Cutler is flat-out much better and how there is no controversy whatsoever.
  20. [expletive] you all for tricking me into thinking this was a thing that might happen.
