Except that's only definitively true if you look at a handful of games this year. You can't just look at a handful of games and throw away the bad games and keep the good ones. How about we just look at career INT rates and fumbles and show that 'not turning the ball over as much' doesn't describe McCown? Uh it describes him this year which is what matters. Let me ask you this - do you think McCown is more likely to play like his old days or this year with Trestman as OC, this line, these weapons? We have to compare QBs in the same system with the same players, not McCown's old teams. It just isn't controversial to say that Jay turns the ball more than McCown. It also isn't controversial to say Jay is better long term. This whole thing has to be the epitome of Packers trolling, right?

I don't know, I heard the whole "the media is against this" meme on the radio today, but I remember seeing a ton of pieces after the decision was announced that were in favor of putting Cutler in. I have no idea the exact ratio, but it sure didn't seem like it was all questioning the decision.

Barney is already basically a platoon player, and he's one that generally doesn't hit against lefties, but you want to put him in that position because of 2013's sample size? And hey, you know what Barney didn't lead Valbuena in last year? Which was the 1.6 WAR player and which was was the -0.5 WAR player? Barney's insane value in 2012 was based mostly on his defense; his bat is not difficult to replace. -

Over his career Barney has 429 PA against lefties vs. 1370 against righties, yet you know want him to be the part of a platoon that hits against LH pitchers. A platoon with Valbuena: good idea. Barney being the other half of that platoon: hopefully there's a better option soon. -

Valbuena still managed to swing a 1 oWAR, while Barney was -1.7. There's not much reason to make room for Barney if there are other options. -
The backup generally has the advantage of not having film or having the defense prepped for him. Cutler wouldn't have that opportunity. The good news is that the Browns are probably too feeble to take advantage of it. In any case, the last time Cutler was sent into start coming back from injury he clearly wasn't healthy and was summarily executed by the Lions. That's worrisome enough. Well, yeah, nobody wants him out there if he's in that condition. Everyone wanting him out there clearly is doing so with the hopes that the Bears have learned their lesson from that debacle.

I can understand people being concerned about Jay still being injured, but too rusty? Is he likely to be rustier than McCown was when he took over? Plus it's not like it's been a long offseason or something that he's coming back from.
