  1. They lured them into the studios with a 2 day-old plate of sandwiches. Then Tom stuffed the plate into Laura's purse. Only because he doesn't have any pockets on that barrel with suspenders that he's always wearing.

  3. I'd rather keep the bitchin' offense.
  4. Yeah, by then the Wrigleyville crimewave will have progressed to murders.

  6. Eh. Partly it's because of how much I've come to hate the rooftops and largely because the stadium is facing the wrong way to have the skyline visible it just seems sort of...blah. PNC could literally not be more perfectly placed, so it's pretty unfair to really compare any stadium's location to it.
  7. what a gorgeous [expletive] park, jesus christ Yeah, I miss being able to go to it more often. Easily my favorite place to see a baseball game. You can park right across the river and walk over the bridge and it's just [expletive] perfect. Meanwhile the Cubs get to come home to Fart City.

  10. I've read it several times. I'll feel a lot better when he actually starts producing like that player. Until then I'm very worried he won't (at least not consistently). I think he'll bounce back, but he's not going to be the "perennial All Star" everyone was hoping for.
  11. Consistently? I hope I am, but I think most of the time he'll be hovering below or above 2. Certainly could be a lot worse, but I think he's just too vulnerable against LH pitching and not damaging enough against RH pitching. He's just not the young Ryan Howard-type offensively where he can overcome how drastic his splits are. I know it seems like most here hate BR's defensive metrics, but I was thinking of their 2012 rating for him when I said that. I don't think he'll regularly be ranked that high, but I think his defense is more likely than his offense to sharpen up at this point.
  12. I expect them both to be in the neighborhood of 3-4 win players and they really don't need to be more than that. That's not to say that, being good players, they won't have hears where they'll perform great (just like they'll have down years). I think they'll be lucky to consistently be 2+ win players, and a good chunk of that will be propped up by their defense. Again, not the end of the world in terms of general baseball, but kind of the end of the world given what the Cubs are trying to do; or at least a big ass tsunami to a bunch of the coasts. You can't honestly tell me that they weren't expecting/hoping at least one them to break out in a big way.
  13. It's not even that I necessarily want Cashner back; I'm just very wary that Rizzo, like Castro, could very well not be the cornerstone players that the Cubs both really, really want and need them to be. It's appearing more and more like they're counting on their player development to pretty much break all their way.
  14. If people bump a thread with "told you so" stuff? There absolutely would. Otherwise, you're right. Mostly because that stuff actually stays in the game thread. But also because we're not sociopaths. Holy hell, and I thought I was fast and loose with the hyperbole. Yeah, the response was brought on by this first game of the season, but it was yet another game where he looked horrendous (and not simply because he was facing a good one) against a LH pitcher, which has been an ongoing trend for over two seasons now. There's several threads dedicated to this player and none of them have been active lately because it's the beginning of the season.
  15. Here's the better question. Would you have made this post if Rizzo went 1 for 3 with a walk today? Would you have even made it if he had done the same thing but the Cubs won 1-0 instead? If the answer to either of those questions is no(and we can be honest, it is), then the whole point is hashing out some pet opinion based on the irritation over today's game. It doesn't matter how legitimate the opinion is, it's a pointless exercise to bring up 15 minutes after game 1 because there's no real discussion to be had that hasn't been hashed out months ago. So I can only assume there's going to be similar lectures when people are bumping threads because certain players have a good game. Wait, no, there won't be. Things are bad and people have lots of things they want to complain about.
  16. Uh, I'm not objective at all. I just think Rizzo's OK at best.
  17. Today was just the inspiration for his post, but it's not like it isn't a worrisome trend.

  19. Reactionary silliness is not limited to opinions that are 100% baseless. His opinion seems mostly based on Rizzo not hitting lefties well, which is hardly baseless. It's clear the Cubs are counting on him being pretty damn good, so it's a tad worrisome.
  20. OK, I agree there's an obvious amount of overreaction, but the flipside of people thinking it's absurd that the Cubs' 1B juuuuust might have the offensive splits of a platoon player seems a tad overwrought.
  21. Look, he's literally a meatball. He's lucky he can even hit one type of pitcher, much less two. Just be thankful we get to witness this miracle of science.
  22. Well, to be fair, he does kinda suck against all lefties everywhere ever.
