  1. I appreciate people not blocking ads, actually. No can do; those scripts gotta go. Aren't web ads just the equivalent of Nigerian Prince e-mail scams in that they're designed to prey on the elderly and troubled?
  2. Just a hot streak or not, Coghlan is in beast mode right now. And Ruggiano's been solid.
  3. How is anyone not already blocking the ads?
  4. Only half? Based on the way people are playing Sweeney (and to a lesser degree, Castillo), are the only ones that bug me somewhat.
  5. It's anticlimactic for some of us because we want to see these guys impacting the Cubs, either via trades or playing on the team, as quickly as possible. Knowing that the rest of this season and the first few weeks of next year are just playing the waiting game is frustrating. I'm not begrudging anyone for loving minor league ball and I'm not looking to clutter up the rest of the minor league forum, but stuff like "Core Fore" and "Future Five," just emphasizes, to me, how much waiting is still left and how it's been a pretty [expletive] run to get there. I can't wait to see some of these guys kick ass or be traded for players that kick ass, but wait we must. Obviously I concur with your general sentiment but I don't get the anticlimactic angle. I guess it will be anticlimactic when they finally do call people up, because even then it will just be more waiting for them to adjust and probably a couple seasons of falling short of contention. Is that what you mean? Sort of; more just bad word choice on my part. Part of it is I'm wary of how they construct the big league team around these kids and that this is going to be a prolonged process as guys come up at different times and many of them struggle and some don't pan out. I'm optimistic for the long run, but it feels like we're still definitely in the "long" part.
  6. I have a hard time seeing a deal. I feel the opposite. I think the only reason a deal can't get done is because either the Cubs are content with what they have (which wouldn't upset me, I like what we got here) or the Marlins, for whatever reason, want to hold onto him until the trade deadline and pray they can work out an extension before moving him, but it's pretty obvious Stanton has no interest in staying in Miami, and I think he'll let that be known to the team this offseason and then he'll hit the market. And if/when that happens I think the Cubs go shopping. And if other teams do, they won't be able to match what the Cubs can offer. There are fans of at least 15 teams writing the same thing right now, I guarantee it. So what? There's maybe one of them that could outdo what the Cubs could offer if they were serious.
  7. I have a hard time seeing a deal. I really hope not, because that means they've fallen too in love with their own prospects and they want their "all homegrown team" video game thing. Things could not be more perfectly set up to get a player like Stanton and still have a strong farm system.
  8. Shameful secret: I often wear slacks/khakis that are stealth cargo pants. I love those pockets, [expletive].

  10. Equally true for like 20 other teams, though Not that many, but having what is generally looked at as the #1 or #2 best farm system probably has to help set the Cubs apart if they go for him. And they should.
  11. ssr, I want to thank me for giving this to you: http://slodive.com/inspiration/derrick-rose-tattoos/
  12. Pretty sure Kevin Love isn't even his buddy and is instead just the one guy that tolerates the weird kid nobody wants to be around because he feels bad for him.
  13. That is casual. Yeah; jeans automatically = casual. So then the next level down would just be "No Dress Code?" Slobs.
  14. That is casual. Yeah; jeans automatically = casual.
  15. You like Grace; you have no room to judge.
  16. Mostly business casual, but quite a few opt to show up in dress shirts and ties or suits.
  17. i mean, yeah, the collection of minor league talent they have is unprecedented, I suppose. but so is a huge market team literally tanking like four seasons in a row. it just makes it a little harder for me to get super duper excited about every minor league box score. granted, it's all we have at this point... I can't wait for them to be on the Actual Team That Matters, so all of the "WOW, look at all of these guys on one team!!!" stuff when it's just the minor leagues can't help but top off at being pretty anti-climactic.
  18. I spent a lot of time from '92-'95 following the Braves. Sammy brought me back.
  19. Maddux is definitely my #2; him not being re-signed was truly when the realities of being a Cubs fan were revealed to me. I remember my dad breaking the news like my [expletive] grandfather had died or something.
  20. Sounds too much like Al Queda. The rednecks and hicks will hate him. Like they won't anyway.
  21. Al Contra is a perfectly good nickname, dammit.

  23. Holy [expletive], it's only the 4th inning.
