  1. And praying for no holes. yeah, good luck with that Chris Davis hit 53 HR last year, and he's sitting at replacement level right now Proven Veterans™ Matt Kemp, Jay Bruce, Allen Craig, Carlos Gonzalez, Prince Fielder, Billy Butler, Alfonso Soriano, Aaron Hill, Eric Hosmer, Carl Crawford, Carlos Beltran, Shin-soo Choo and like 100 other players with a track record, have all been pretty dismal this year...and this is to say nothing of the volatility of pitching looking only at prospects that have floundered and drawing broad conclusions is ignorant of the greater unpredictability in player performance and serves as confirmation bias for an ill-informed mindset So your argument against me being wary of thinking the all prospect team is a lock...is to point out the fluctuation in "proven" talent? Alright then.
  2. You take it as sandbagging 2015, I take it as eyeing a specific acquisition that isn't a FA until the 2015 offseason. Oh good; they're laser-sighted in on the one guy they want and if they don't get him then they have this awesome track record of backup plans that worked out (or even existed at all).
  3. Were you born under a bad sign or something? http://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--TD65lQUj--/c_fit,fl_progressive,q_80,w_636/18j4z6k55jio1jpg.jpg
  4. Imagine the scrambling when that $40 million isn't spent. Get read for another Jackson-esque signing and some scraps.
  5. And praying for no holes.
  6. I do; they'll want him as dead meat if they don't manage to be competitive.
  7. Agreed. They very likely could be holes. But, that's what makes next year exciting and terrifying at the same time. But that's not what Tim said. There may be holes, but there's no reason to spend heavily on them this off-season because of all the young talent available. Nobody said to spend heavily on position talent.
  8. Why not have him learn 2B at the level you want him at when there are literally zero stakes with the major league team? Why are people so convinced they won't be able to sign him to a team-friendly deal a la Castro or Rizzo?
  9. Very valid points, and much more reasonable than "the Cubs have no position holes (except for maybe catcher)."
  10. I keep forgetting who the Cubs' manager is, so I guess that's a good thing.
  11. Bill James is a false prophet and should be drowned in a lake.
  12. I want him up now; the guy has shown he needs time to adjust and I want him to do it sooner rather than later since it's a given we have to wait for Bryant. Seems like that could significantly improve the team's chances to start the year next year if they launch with Baez and Soler having had some pro time.
  13. I said "few." I can count 7 and then I got bored.
  14. they'll both show up but i already [expletive] hate the CBA that incentivizes this, if that answers your question It does; I have kind of an apathetic disliking and broken spirit right now, but if Baez doesn't show up this season that will mutate into actual rage. I really want to see Soler, too, but I'm more confident in him panning out so if he was stretched out a bit more and just started with the team next year I guess I could livie with it, but I want Baez to be given time to work through his [expletive] ASAP.

  16. Wtf.this is almost as dumb as the Rizzo thing. Theo is the [expletive]. How dare he hate the man who has led his favorite baseball team to a .401 win percentage. I find Kyle and Mojo standing together in hand-clasped solidarity a rare yet heartwarming byproduct of this poll. I'm giving Hoyer all of the credit when they succeed; he's much more handsome.
  17. Relatively serious question: if Baez & Soler keep up at the pace they're going, how perturbed will those of you that voted yes be if neither or only one shows up before the end of the year?
  18. The best thing is that when they are good I'll still get to be super excited over it and everyone who put on a happy face during the dark times can go hug a landmine.
  19. He has a weird stretchy face like it was rolled off of a newspaper onto a piece of Silly-Putty. And he destroyed laughter and joy.
  20. One of the few bright spots. It's been fun to watch even though it won't last.
  21. "Easy" when you have $40M to spend and no position holes to spend it upon. Yes. Slow down. Catcher? What other position would you fill through FA this offseason? No idea, because I don't what's out there because Theo has killed my love of baseball. My black heart full of heart is just always a little amused when people talk like the Cubs can basically set their future lineup in stone.
  22. When the team is actually good I'll happily vote yes. In the meantime they've had full endorsement to completely neglect that. If I'm voting for the state of the farm system I'll give a big fat disgusting thumbs up, but until it actually pays off there's no shame in voting no. Plus I'll hate Theo Epstein forever even if they win a bajillion WS.
  23. yes we get it Whiny McMiserablecrotch I will not rest until Theo Epstein is destroyed like the Death Star of Happiness that he is.
  24. "Easy" when you have $40M to spend and no position holes to spend it upon. Yes. Slow down.
