We're not catching them, so isn't it better that they take out some of the WC competition? Not that we have much of a chance at that either. In order for the Cubs to win either they have to go on an absurd tear, like 18-2. If they do that the teams that are nearby aren't keeping pace. I think 15-5 will do it. As of tonight Cubs are tied with ATL and FLA in the loss column and possibly only 6.5 out of WC lead. 15-5 would require a 7-11 finish from the Rockies just to tie them. 12-7 from the Giants too. That won't get it done. I'm not worried about the Giants. If the Cubs can win that series they will surpass them. It's a bit of a stretch to catch the Rox but it's not out of the question.

Positive Outlook on the Remainder of the Season

Each of the 4 teams in front of the Cubs have 10 games head to head against one of the other. Not to mention that they all have three more series each vs a 1st place team. With the exception of SF but they have a 4 game set with the Cubs so it's in their hands to help themselves there. COL - 67-53 4 vs SF, 6 @ SF 6 vs LA, 3 @ LA 3 vs STL SF - 66-55 6 vs COL, 4 @ COL 3 @ LA 4 vs CHI FLA - 64-56 4 vs ATL, 6 @ ATL 3 vs PHI(including DH), 3 @ PHI 3 @ STL ATL - 63-57 6 vs FLA, 4 @ FLA 3 vs PHI, 3 @ PHI 3 @ STL Out of that bunch I think SF has the toughest road. Over the next month the easiest they get are 3 at home vs SD and ARI each and 3 @ MIL. They could be toast by the time they face the Cubs. The Cubs are 4 games back in the loss column. IF they can get their crap together and stay healthy they have a very real chance at getting the WC. -
