  1. I agree with you. I can't imagine another year of Z, Hill and whomever is the flavor of the week to fill out the rotation. Exactly..I couldnt stand to see anymore of that revolving garbage of Guzman,Marmol,Waldrond why are you putting Walrond with guys like Guzman and Marmol? Walrond was an emergency starter, just like O'Malley. We didn't have another option. Ok I shouldve meant Mateo...I don't wanna have guys in the rotation with 5,6 ERA's and be down 6-0 in the 4th inning, and trying to "learn" to be in the big leagues..The time is now,we need expirience, consistency and reliability Lilly doesn't really fit the bill on the last two. I want Lilly so long as we get someone else too, but what you're looking for isn't available on the market.

  3. hendry gets desperate and trades too much for Westbrook, Jennings, or Penny. i'd rather have either of those three over meche/lilly Depends on what we give up. I'd rather give up money for Lilly than players for Westbrook or Jennings. I like Penny a lot, but I think he is going to demand too much in return. We don't really match up with the Dodgers either. They don't need OF help, which is what we can provide with Jones. the money hendry is about to spend on lilly is just as pricey as a prospect/whatever package for penny when talent is taken account of. I don't think either Westbrook or Jennings -- especially Jennings -- is much more talented than Lilly. I don't have an issue with spending money at this point. It's not like signing Lilly blocks us this year. It doesn't really hurt us down the road so long as we still have money. lilly is a glorified estes, they compare pretty fairly with age in consideration. I don't think so at all, at least not stats-wise. The only years Estes had that compared to Lilly's 04 or 06 were Estes's first couple years in the league. When we signed him, he was a crappy pitcher. Lilly is at least mediocre.
  4. Funny... a few weeks ago, I suggested 3/24 and got laughed at for "overpaying." It is definitely overpaying, whether you suggested it or Boston offered it. ...or perhaps there are some on this message board who don't have a firm grasp on the current market situation? I dont know who laughed at you but the rumors from the very beginning of the offseason were 4/32, so I don't see how 3/24 was that earth shattering of a prediction. Considering the SS market next offseason, this is a very very good move if they dont want to use Pedoria there. Isn't Pedroia a 2B not a SS? He's just a middle infielder. I think he played both in the minors, though I don't have anything to back that up. He played some SS with the Red Sox this year though.
  5. Also, I would much rather overspend on Penny than anyone else, Lilly included. I just don't know if we match up with the Dodgers very well. I'd love to see Hendry try though.

  9. Or sign Bonds and Church and have a loaded offense. Still need pitching. And if they sign Meche and Lilly, they'll still need pitching. If those are the only legitimate choices (at the prices being mentioned), I go with the kids and stack the offense. What did "going with the Kids" get us last year? That's why we would stack the offense. Also, usually players progress as they gain more experience. So we've got that going for us. Which is nice.
  10. With Schmidt being a Dodger, does anyone else think we're going to push hard for Zito?
  11. Rotoworld: I think we could match that pretty easily. Lieber could probably match Meche's production and he would come cheaper cost-wise. Health is obviously a concern, but he's averaging just under 30 starts a year over the last 3.
  12. I searched back a couple of pages and didn't see this posted, so sorry if it's old: ESPN's Rumor Central
  13. per rotoworld Brewers are interested in Lieber. Mench + Capellan is apparently what they're considering. Steve Phillips reports think that Lugo to the Red Sox is all but finalized. Something in the range of 4/36
  14. Hawkins signs with Rox (I think this is sort of old news, but apparently it's finalized now) http://www.rotoworld.com/Content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=MLB&id=2024 the Cubs hat makes me cringe.
  15. Maddux to Padres http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ys-mlbwmblog&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
  16. Meh. "The Ted Lilly Sweapsteaks"? What's second place, a set of steak knives? pssh, second place wishes it was a set of steak knives. second place is gil meche OR jason marquis. 3rd place gets what 2nd place doesn't take.
  17. I think they're just trying to find a way to slot McCarthy into the rotation.
  18. You're wrong. Dunn is NOT a hitter, he is a masher. Joe Mauer, Derek Jeter they are hitters, Dunn is not. That's awfully finicky. They all excel at their roles which involve hitting the baseball, they are all hitters.
  19. Maybe that is the case because Dunn swings and misses more balls the Murton, perhaps? I'm convinced that the Dunn-haters don't like him for aesthetic reasons. I don't like Dunn, cause he is not a smart hitter. In fact, I will say he is Mark Bellhorn with power. If Dunn would ever learn that it doesn't take a HR on every at-bat, I wouldn't mind Dunn, but Adam---like Zito with his curveball---is in love with HR, regardless of it helping the team or not. This reminds me of the FJM article that said something to the effect of, "Travis Hafner is not a good team player, he accidentally hit 24 home runs for the D'Backs." http://firejoemorgan.blogspot.com/2006/04/live-from-joe-morgans-brain-its-sunday.html
  20. No Cub had an OBP higher than Dunn's last year, and last year was a bad year for Dunn. Who cares about his batting average? I do. OBP is great and all, but a high OBP doesn't excuse a piss poor batting average. I love guys who can get on base in general, but I also love guys who can hit their way on. A walk is nowhere near as valuable as a hit can be. Agreed. And if Dunn could figure it that there is more to baseball then the LONG homeruns (coughssingles/doubles), his batting average would go up, and OBP would literally reach the level that Bonds was at for the last few yrs. And his SLG would go down and he would essentially be the same player, except with fewer home runs. His OBP would likely not change that much at all, and if it did it wouldn't be that much better, not worth a significant drop in SLG.
  21. I think Lilly would be fine if Hill turns into a god and Zambrano turns into a greater god. Anyways, I laughed out loud at the "your post is a moron" comment.
