  2. Which do you prefer? I used to like roto, but I find h2h much more interesting now.
  3. I think all good prospects deserve hype, but the media is making him the poster child of the minor league system. Maybe it's just that I don't put a lot of faith in pitching prospects because of the injury factor. That plus they're young and you never know what you'll get. Example: Felix Hernandez. So overhyped and considered to be the best pitching prospect in baseball and he's been nothing but mediocre since he's been up 84.1 IP in 2005 suggest otherwise. He was also, imo, rather unlucky last year.
  4. And your point is? Obviously local fans can still watch their team, making that claim is absurd, and pointless. The fact is MLB is taking away a previous choice that MLB fans nationwide had. They are limiting options instead of expanding upon them. and as MLB owns the broadcasting rights to it's games, they can do whatever they want. If they only want one person in Wyoming to be able to watch games, that's their choice. that's not the point, at all. we know this is MLB's choice. a lot of us think it's a very dumb thing to do.
  5. Dunn has Astro written all over him. Not really. I'm pretty sure -- not 100% positive -- that Minute Maid suppresses home runs for lefties. Plus, the Astros have 1st and LF covered with Lee and Berkman.
  6. Okay, then what do you do with Morneau and Mauer? Maybe let one walk if you've got an adequate replacement. I'm just sayin, it's not exactly easy to replace a lights-out pitcher who is a true anchor and stopper. It's not easy to replace the best catcher in the game either. Pitchers have more volatile careers, Santana will be more expensive, Santana will be older, and the Twins have better pitching prospects than hitting prospects at this point. Morneau would probably be third in terms of wanting to lock up ASAP though.
  7. Okay, then what do you do with Morneau and Mauer?
  8. Can you imagine the package of players (or prospects) you could get for Santana? That's why I'd trade him sometime next off-season or during the 08 season. His return will be amazing. He does have a NTC, though...so that hurts the chance he gets traded. He's still third on the list behind both Mauer and Morneau in terms of getting the player locked up. I don't know how you trade a guy like that, though. He's durable, very consistent, fairly young, and is the best pitcher in baseball, hands down. Trading him would be the equivalent of the Dodgers trading Koufax in his prime. It's either trade him or let him go. It wouldn't make sense for a team like the Twins to lock him up when they have guys like Morneau, Garza, Bonser, Baker, Mauer, etc that are under their control for longer and will also demand lots of money.

  10. Disagree. Trade Liriano. you don't have control of Santana and Santana will be paid ridiculous amounts of money and will carry much more value than liriano, esp. right after TJS. Trading Liriano does nothing for the Twins, who are a small-market team and won't be able to pay Santana anyways.
  11. you trade santana some time after liriano comes back. they'll be alright without santana, if Liriano can stay healthy after his return. They might even be okay without Liriano if Garza, Bonser, and Baker pan out. I don't think they'd be alright without either of Morneau or Mauer. Especially Mauer.
  12. 2B Chase Utley 3B Ryan Zimmerman SS Felipe Lopez OF Vernon Wells OF Grady Sizemore BN Rickie Weeks SP Halladay SP Lackey I honestly am not sure why I took Weeks. I guess I couldn't remember taking utley with my first pick or something. Oh well. I'm not dissatisfied.
  13. sophomore slump sophomore slump is bull crap, guys can have a bad year anytime. It just gets named that because some players have a lucky/fluky first year and then get noticed, and then they come back to earth their second year. Nobody talks about the "sophomore break out" when they do what Ryan Howard did this year. There's a vast difference between Howard and the average second year player. Howard was 26 this year. Your typical second year player doesn't have that much experience under his belt. I suppose it also bears mentioning that Howard is a hitter and the career trajectory of a hitter is far different than that of a pitcher.
  14. How's he a large injury risk? He didn't get hurt in high school or college and hasn't gotten hurt as a pro. He threw less than 100 pitches per start last year, and he wasn't abused. Also, he wasn't awful in the second half. His ERA was 4.54 after the all-star break - not good, but hardly awful. I'd also guess that some of it was hitting the rookie wall, since his previous max was 130 innings in a year. That's why he's an injury risk: his previous high was a 130 innings. Also, if you talk to local board pitching expert Baseball(numbers), he thinks Verlander's delivery sucks (though I wouldn't personally put much stock in that...). He jumped about 90 innings from his previous high. That doesn't necessarily show up in the first year (outside of tiredness). Second year is when you start to see it. Also, Verlander's second half is skewed a little bit by his great July. He was pretty bad in Aug/September. He wasn't any better in the playoffs either.
  15. Dave Bush would be another sleeper, too.
  16. Well, Verlander was fluky in the first half and was just awful in the second half. He's also a large injury risk. It would be a pretty dumb thing to do to just look at a young player and say he will definitely get better, ESPECIALLY a pitcher. And I read just a few weeks ago that it's actually fairly common practice for pitchers to fly out of the gate and fall off after that, though I can't remember where I read it or what the reasoning was. Did you think Zach Duke was going to be amazing this year?
  17. Who is drafting Sexson to be a big contributor this year? He would be a sleeper, not a flop. He's a guy you take when you like the rest of your team. A flop would be a top-tier guy that fails, right? Anyways, a couple of sleepers: Matt Cain, Howie Kendrick, Rich Hill, and a few guys I don't want to spoil for myself in the draft ;) A few flops would be a portion of the rookie pitching class last year (verlander, weaver, anibal sanchez, and billingsley). I also don't like Wang very much, though he wasn't a rookie last year.

  20. DAMMIT, i wanted cain really, really bad.
  21. Zambrano is younger than Hill. I know what you mean though. yeah...you forget about that kind of thing when he's the best pitcher on your staff by leaps and bounds.
  22. well, i expect a whole lot more out of Reyes and Wainwright than i do about any Cubs young starter other than Hill. There's a difference between Wainwright/Reyes and the crap we threw out last year.
  23. i'd just like to point out that imb's sig is one of the greatest things i've ever seen.
  24. I bet it revives though. Colorado needs to trade him, Boston wants him and they were close it sounded like. Why does Colorado need to trade him when his value is at its lowest? Because his value isn't about to go up and he has a terrible contract.
