  1. In other words, look the eff out when his luck evens out.
  2. I had heard Wolfe rated as a 5th or 6th-rounder, so I have no clue why the Bears scooped him there. I don't know that much about Bazuin but he looks pretty solid.
  3. uh, I don't think NFL teams have a vendetta against a particular college. that'd be pretty stupid. maybe people just didn't think he was that good, or didn't need a quarterback. Agreed. Andy, its kinda difficult to take you seriously in football threads. You are incredibly biased in your assessments. You once argued that the 06' Panthers - after starting out with a losing record in their first few games - would wind up with a better record than the Bears, and now you are basically asserting that Quinn is the love child of Johnny U and Joe Montana. How can you expect us to take you seriously? Did you not see the LSU game? The Michigan game? Most of his "great" games came against second tier competition. That said, I think Quinn will be a good pro, and perhaps better than Russell. But that doesn't mean he is the G-d you see him as being. I didn't mean NFL teams and scouts, I meant the media who spent the last four months destroying him for invented reasons like "sucks in big games" (apparently Penn State wasn't a big game last season and none of the games in 2005 were big) and "no upside" (like we know for an absolute fact that Russell is some kind of upside machine). And Carolina was the most talented team in the NFC, or at least appeared to be when the season was going on, and they SHOULD have been better than 8-8. Then again, I didn't see Chris Freaking Weinke starting three or four games towards the end of the season either. I never, ever, ever made him out to be some kind of god. Ever. I can't emphasize this strongly enough. Calvin Johnson is the best player in this draft and it's not even close. I've maintained this for months. Quinn was a top 5 talent in this draft and plummeted to 22. If this happened to your all-time favorite college athlete, you'd be pretty irate too.
  4. On the ND side, Darius Walker, Rhema McKnight and Derek Landri will all get picked today. Chinedum Ndukwe has an outside shot. Ball State's own Erik Keys may get picked but has an offer from the Ravens to sign with them if he doesn't.
  5. Get off Quinn's stuff. He isn't that good. btw, you sound like ESPN. He IS that good. Explain to me in rational terms why he's not. Nothing about "big games", because that's crap (Russell crapped the bed in his team's biggest game in 06, why does nobody bring THIS up?). I originally called Cleveland as an 07 playoff team, but after allowing myself some time to think about it, I'll pull back slightly. They'll be a .500 team. The other two ND guys were both taken higher than I thought they'd be, but Abiamiri is going to be a good one, Eagles fans will like him. Ryan Harris sucks.
  6. Things I learned today: - Apparently being the face of ND football is more than enough by itself to knock a great player down NINETEEN spots from where he could've and should've been taken. Cleveland got ass-lucky. - Carolina doesn't always do what I want them to do. I wanted them to take Quinn at 14, then after they traded down, I wanted Greg Olsen at 25. I'm not a Beason guy, but considering our office's record of draft success, I can't complain too much. And they went out and had a fantastic 2nd and 3rd round getting Jarrett, Kalil (who I wanted with the pick they snatched Jarrett with), and Charles Johnson. All they need to do now is take a token ND guy on day 2 and me loves the draft. - Miami is galactically stupid. A KICK RETURNER AT THE NINE SPOT? - The Bears getting Olsen is the 2nd-biggest steal of the draft behind Quinn at 22. For a while I was terrified - TERRIFIED - that they'd trade up, get Quinn, and become an NFC dynasty. Olsen worries me less - but only slightly less. - San Diego had a terrible first day. Craig Davis, a guy who was nowhere near the top of the boards at the time he was picked? Trading half your picks to get Eric Weddle? - SF had the best 1st day overall - Willis is going to be awesome and Joe Staley was a great pickup, plus they got a 1st rounder back in a trade with Indy.
  7. Doesn't make sense. If the Raiders aren't getting Quinn, then he'll be there for the 3rd pick. No need for Cleveland to trade Braylon. That sounds like a ploy by the Raiders. "Give us Braylon, or we'll draft Quinn". I think Cleveland like Russell better anyway. That's what I hear as well. I would think that if the Browns were going to trade up it would be for Russell.
  8. Yup, today's homer broke McGriff's record and Sosa now has gone yard in 44 ballparks. Does anyhave a list of parks he has homered in? Or parks he hadsn't homered in? I'd like to see how much higher he can push this. Just read today that the only current parks he has not homered in are RFK and Busch III. The Rangers play in neither of those parks this season.
  9. I have heard the same thing. From what I hear, Calvin and Russel both wanted 15% more than Williams got last year, and Quinn would take a lot less, close to what was paid last year for Williams. From what I've been hearing, the Raiders gave Quinn an offer that would be considered a low-ball offer for a 1st overall pick but would be better than what he'd get in the 7-9 range. If true, it is a smart move on the Raiders part. except for the part about DRAFTING BRADY QUINN =D> Post of the freakin' day. Quinn is a late first rounder. Way to screw the pooch AGAIN, Oakland. Is it a bannable offense to make fun of all the Quinn-bashers when he inevitably plays well in the NFL? (Except of course he goes to Oakland, then all bets are off)
  10. Yup, today's homer broke McGriff's record and Sosa now has gone yard in 44 ballparks.
  11. I don't think anyone's criticizing Lee. On the contrary, we've all been impressed by his hitting so far, but some are worried about his power.
  12. A lot of that slg% is singles driven because he has a jesus christ like .485 babip. When that goes down, and it surely will, that slugging percentage will plummet unless he starts hitting the ball out of the park again. This is very simple guys, I don't know how you keep getting it wrong. Maybe it will, but the fact is Lee's been productive. And he's going to hit home runs again. This isn't the first April Lee's had where he hasn't been hitting homers.
  13. Anyone? This one's the best I've found. http://www.basketballforum.com/chicago-bulls/ I used to post there a lot, but I'm not as into basketball as I am baseball.
  14. Precisely why I didn't open this thread until now.
  15. May I just say I'm enjoying the Bizzaro World fantasy in which a former crappy Cardinals pitcher comes to Chicago and inexplicably does well? Let's keep that ERA under 2 and get another W, Jason.
  16. Goony is Jersey Cubs Fan. I'm shocked this hasn't been cleared up to everyone by now.
  17. It bears repeating. Derrek Lee's OPS in 2007 = 1.034 Derrek Lee's rank in the NL in doubles = 2nd Just because you aren't putting the ball in the seats doesn't mean you're not hitting for power.
  18. 4-5 with 3 XBH's...he never has to hit a homer again if he keeps doing that.
  19. DLee absolutely killing the ball today
  20. Yeah, Floyd was safe, the boys in blue are at it again
  21. Yay Babe DeRosa. I'm happy to be wrong.
