  1. There are a kajillion (and I'm not sure how much of an exaggeration that is) examples of guys trying to win a ring late in their careers and hanging on with any team they think has a good chance to do it, even if it's as a role player (Malone and Payton are the ones I'm coming up with immediately). And that's not exclusive to basketball. There are probably half a handful of guys in the history of sports who passed up the chance to win a title intentionally so they could be the alpha dog somewhere on a team that wasn't going to win the title. I'm going with Kerr. And you can change the option to Robert Horry or any other role player who won a bunch of titles without ever being one of the best four guys on a team and I'd pick them. Kerr made a title-winning shot. I have to believe I'd give anything to have that experience if I were a pro athlete.
  2. If the Cubs really wanted to dump Fontenot, I'm sure they could get SOMETHING for him, even if it's a nothing prospect.
  3. Sorry Northwestern fans. I was looking forward to ND playing a full-strength Wildcats team. Unfortunate.
  4. I watched the video today and while I wish it hadn't been overturned, I can't really argue with it, either.
  5. UMFan, what you said is why I'm kind of not in favor of college football's current replay system anymore. I've seen so many calls get reviewed and incorrectly overturned that we might as well stick with the coaches deciding when to do a review.
  6. It sure seems like the Bulls have spent the better part of the last half-decade paying for every call MJ got.
  7. BS. Kid yapped off when he had no reason too. Of course Weis knew they didn't make in-game adjustments quickly enough, but the defense is controlled by Brown and Tenuta. If he admitted that they'd been out-schemed, he'd be tacitly approving of Williams' [expletive] comment and throwing his defensive coaches under the bus. Weis should have addressed that comment privately with Williams instead of trashing him to the press, though. BTW, Williams was right. Navy's coach's saying that they basically attacked ND the exact same way they did last year was pretty damning of Tenuta, whose defenses have been awful. The only good defense ND has had since Weis got here was Corwin Brown's in 2007, so naturally he demoted him after one season.
  8. Yep, that's what I meant by that. You're right on the money.
  9. Thomas Davis tore his ACL yesterday. Fantastic.
  10. This. When a talent like this is available, you make it work any way you can (see: Yankees and ARod).
  11. Dear God. That kid was in my line of sight (I was 20-some rows up and to the left of him). Ironic choice of insult, for sure.
  12. Yep, they'll be at Utah/TCU.
  13. Forget job hunting, everyone put all you've got on Pitt.

  15. Screw you Panthers. I'd have been fine with you just getting blown out, but no, you take a 17-3 lead and gag it away instead.
  16. LSU moved UP a spot in the BCS by losing. I give up.
  17. ND had 5 trips to the red zone or near it that resulted in zero points. 2 missed field goals, a pick that somehow bounced off Floyd's back and STRAIGHT UP INTO THE AIR, a turnover on downs, and a fumble. If I felt like defending Charlie, I'd yap about the bad breaks, the overturning a non-reviewable play on the first drive, the Jimmy getting hurt yet again (ND has had 3 different plays this year on which they should have scored a TD but someone got injured at the 1-yard line or in the end zone to take it away), the Immaculate Interception, or whatever else. But Charlie Weis didn't have this team ready to play at all today. It was glaringly obvious. ND will lose to at least one of Pitt or Stanford and probably both, and then Weis will be fired. And for the first time in his tenure, I'm in favor of that. Someone get Brian Kelly on line 2. And for the love of God, fire Tenuta. How many times can Notre Dame give up big gains on plays everyone knows are coming (like the FB run up the middle from their own 1 that went for 30 some yards)? I can't even begin to get mad at Clausen, Floyd or Tate, all of whom played very well.
  18. I was researching via a website called FBSchedules.com to see what teams have Sept. 3, 2011 open (Boise's lone non-conference date that they're looking to fill) and was compiling a list but lost it all because of an accidental click elsewhere. But at least half the BCS conference teams have that date open as of now.
  19. That pic freaked me the [expletive] out.
  20. What's the beef against Boise? Just rooting for the underdog and don't think Boise deserves to be ranked in the top 10. They had one good win against Oregon to start the season and haven't played a good team since. It's a tough spot for Boise though. What do they have to do to be highly ranked if they go by your criteria? What good team would want to play Boise State? Major conference teams don't gain anything from it...and they stand to potentially lose a lot. They really need to get out of that conference. There was a story this week - buried in the whole "WAC hires PR firm to help Boise get to BCS" hubbub - about how Boise has a slot left on their 2011 schedule and are trying everything they can to get a BCS conference team to host them for a one-off. Boise's not even asking for a return trip, they just want a road game against a BCS team. And they can't get one.
  21. I loathe mugging for the refs. It's a big part of why I hated Hansbrough, a big part of why I hate Kramer and a huge part of what frustrated me about Luke Harangody last season, because he started doing it too.
  22. The Yankees won 2 titles, tied for the most in the decade, and were in the playoffs 9/10 times. Easy pick.
  23. I'm following ND this year about 90 percent for Gody and 10 percent on the desperate hope that the Irish can continue their pattern of having a great year when their expectations are low. Unfortunately he has no chance of winning the end of the season honors because ND's not going to be that good and the voters won't give it to someone who's not on a great team.
  24. sorry about your loss to Northwestern I would say there's no way they could lose to Northwestern, but the Cats beat IU...
