    That's not true. They can get the 4th seed. I thought division winners get the first three seeds ... is that no longer the case? No, not the last few years. The top three seeds are seeded regardless of division, and if the 3rd-place division winner is worse than one of the wildcards, they're seeded 4th. If the top three teams in the conference were somehow all in one division, I assume that the 4/5 series would be the other two division winners.

    The academic problem would be in the going to 14 or 16 teams scenario. Obviously ND isn't a problem academically. I really hope ND doesn't join. I don't expect they would unless we get the 'seismic change' Swarbrick referred to, but it would be poetically cruel for ND to join the conference whose blacklisting of them led to them becoming what they became. A craptastic school who is living off of former glory? At least my craptastic school had some glory to begin with.

    Is academics a problem? I wasn't aware ND's academics weren't good enough for the Big Ten. If anything would be a problem I'd expect ND's Catholic affiliation would be.

    I liked the hip bump myself. that was cool, but maybe stale? I like that Marlon seemed to initiate it all... good vibes from him all around. He's definitely making a good impression. If he keeps hitting 2 homers every series that'll be good.

    Ron gets pretty unbearable, but without Pat's dry wit and great comedic timing, there is no way Ron in the booth would work out. Pat Hughes is so good at what he does that he could probably do a Vin Scully and commentate without a color man, but giving him a foil like Ron makes him even better.

    For some reason, Ron didn't remember/notice that Fukudome flied to center to lead off the inning, and when he asked whether the flyout was hard-hit, Pat replied without missing a beat that "it was one of the most dramatic fly balls in the history of organized baseball". I love Pat.
