  1. Bregman seemingly lives to make me want to punch him in the head
  2. Would really hate to see this performance by Assad wasted.
  3. No kidding. I'm sure there was more to it but it sure felt at the time like it was a 'well, the Cubs are gonna suck for a while and the Sox are on the uptick and I want to call playoff games' thing and...that did not work for him.
  4. Narrative isn't reality but the Cubs' quickly bouncing back from repeated kicks to the groin in April has been pretty cool
  5. Apropos of nothing, that officially gives USC 8 Heisman Trophies, which breaks their tie with Notre Dame and Ohio State for the most all-time.
  6. Absolutely confirmation bias on this one but it feels like the Cubs' track record of guys getting injured literally just as they are starting to catch fire at the plate is unmatched.
  7. It strikes me as annoying that Houston, for whom so little has gone wrong in so long, has by far the most normal looking versions of these stupid uniforms that I've yet seen
  8. No, those were 2 different years. Soriano walkoff was 09 (shamelessly adding that I was there) and Berkman's mad dash was, I believe, in 08, and late at night at that. Houston's last Wrigley visit was 2013.
  9. FWIW I just checked and the Cubs are 7th in average with RISP, but I can't find any specific splits on successfully plating runners from 3rd with under 2 outs. The Brewers, naturally, are way ahead of everyone in average with RISP at .344.
  10. Exchange lately with almost every year of my life but either you're right or we're really pessimistic
  11. This is the kind of crap that matters less if you don't piss away games like yesterday's first one
  12. Monster HR aside, Hendricks looks very sharp today.
  13. I have no idea whatsoever why he's hitting so high in the order
  14. Giving away these early scoring chances does not bode well
  15. That might sum up where we are with Hendricks. 460 foot missile into the wind
  16. Ah, the old Kris Bryant "could be available in an emergency" designation that always ends with us having the backup catcher taking a 9th inning AB down 1 while we all wonder what the hell constitutes an emergency
  17. Yeah if he'd let Amaya swing away and then he struck out, or even GIDP'd, Canario hitting would've made sense. If you're trying to maximize your chances of tying it up, that combination feels suboptimal. Amaya has done pretty well vs LHP in his career and, in a small sample, extremely well this year. I would've rather given them both a shot than just Canario.
  18. The only justification I can think of for having Amaya bunt in that spot is to make sure the reasonable worst case scenario is Nico gets a 2 out AB. Maybe put pressure on the guy to not put chase pitches into the dirt. I don't know, I just know I didn't like it in the moment so this isn't second guessing.
  19. Yep, it was absolutely the old "I promised you the whole game off" thing, which I can not horsefeathers stand
