  1. Alright folks, here we go. A couple of things: 1) This year I will save myself some time by omitting mention of the non-FBS games on the schedule, though this isn’t meant to discourage fans of those teams (Flames for SIU, Truffle for HC, etc) to discuss those games. 2) It should be noted that all games broadcast by an ESPN network (outside of ABC games) are also broadcast on ESPN3.com. This also holds for any game identified as being on the SEC Network or the ACC Network. As always, times listed are Eastern time. Top 25 games ------------------------ Tulsa at (1) Oklahoma (8 pm, FX) Kent State at (2) Alabama (12 pm, SEC Network) (4) LSU vs (3) Oregon – in Arlington, TX (8 pm, ABC) (5) Boise State vs (19) Georgia – in Atlanta (8 pm, ESPN) UL Monroe at (6) Florida State (3:30 pm, ESPNU) San Jose State at (7) Stanford (5 pm, CSN Bay Area) SMU at (8) Texas A&M (7:30 pm Sunday, FSN/CSN) UL Lafayette at (9) Oklahoma State (7 pm, Fox College) Chattanooga at (10) Nebraska (3:30 pm, BTN – Regional) UNLV at (11) Wisconsin (8 pm Thursday, ESPN) East Carolina vs (12) South Carolina – in Charlotte (7 pm, FSN/CSN) Appalachian State at (13) Virginia Tech (12:30 pm, ACC Network) (14) TCU at Baylor (8 pm Friday, ESPN) Missouri State at (15) Arkansas (7 pm, ESPN3) South Florida at (16) Notre Dame (3:30 pm, NBC) Youngstown State at (17) Michigan State (7:30 pm Friday, BTN) Akron at (18) Ohio State (12 pm, ESPN) (20) Mississippi State at Memphis (8 pm Thursday, FSN/CSN) Miami (OH) at (21) Missouri (12 pm, FSN/CSN) Florida Atlantic at (22) Florida (7 pm, ESPNU) Utah State at (23) Auburn (12 pm, ESPN2) Marshall at (24) West Virginia (3:30 pm Sunday, ESPN) Minnesota at (25) USC (3:30 pm, ABC – Regional) Games of interest ------------------------ Murray State at Louisville (6 pm Thursday, ESPNU) Western Kentucky vs Kentucky – in Nashville (9:15 pm Thursday, ESPNU) Tennessee Tech at Iowa (12 pm, BTN – Regional) Middle Tennessee at Purdue (12 pm, BTN – Regional) Indiana State at Penn State (12 pm, BTN – Regional) Northwestern at Boston College (12 pm, ESPNU) Western Michigan at Michigan (3:30 pm, ABC/ESPN2) UCLA at Houston (3:30 pm, FSN/CSN) Arkansas State at Illinois (3:30 pm, BTN) BYU at Ole Miss (4:45 pm, ESPN) Montana at Tennessee (6 pm, ESPN3) Indiana vs Ball State – in Indianapolis (7 pm, ESPN3) Rice at Texas (7 pm, Longhorn Network) Army at Northern Illinois (7 pm, ESPN3) Northern Iowa at Iowa State (7 pm) Richmond at Duke (7 pm, ESPN3) McNeese State at Kansas (7 pm) Eastern Kentucky at Kansas State (7 pm) Other nationally available games --------------------------------------- North Texas at Florida International (7 pm Thursday, ESPN3) Villanova at Temple (7 pm Thursday, ESPN3) Western Carolina at Georgia Tech (7:30 pm Thursday. 2. He was basically suspended for a semester just like Kyle McAlarney was, but McAlarney was dumb enough to let his violation occur during his athletic season.
  3. Texas football could easily be independent right now, but they aren't going to find anyone to take the rest of their sports - at least no league good enough for them. ND was fortunate enough to get the Big East to take most of their other sports and that's the #1 reason by far they've been able to maintain independence, even more than NBC.
  4. Enjoyed the gratuitous Lou Brock mention from Joe Buck, and like all the other mentions of Brock it completely ignored the fact that he was a hot steaming pile of garbage in a Cub uniform. Oh, and Buck also floated Marmol as a trade candidate for other teams, evidently ignoring that he was signed to an expensive 3 year deal five months ago.
  5. I am practically salivating for football. I'll start the week 1 thread soon after the preseason coaches' poll comes out (switching to the AP rankings when they come out later in August).
  6. Right, that's comparable. IU succeeding in football, to the degree they can, would essentially have no effect on me. It's not like Notre Dame and IU are consistently battling for recruits, and it's not like I said I hope IU is gonna compete for titles. I just have a few friends who are fans, that's all. Not sure why it's such a big deal, and I certainly apologize for offending all the non-IU B1G fanboys.
  7. Thought he was a goner for sure.
  8. That's great for IU. Hopefully they can turn that into a few more and start to make some hay in becoming a consistently good program.
  9. 2008, and to a lesser extent 2007 were the clear outliers of the past decade. People talk about the Cubs "waiting for the three run homer". That's nonsense, they don't wait for anything. Not that this team would be patient under anyone, but it'd be really cool if we hadn't scapegoated the hitting coach of those 07 and 08 teams for no good reason halfway through 09.
  10. Just as Sergio Mitre and Jason Marquis before him. The Cubs beat Roy Halladay. I have no idea why, but they do, consistently.
  11. Prior was 18-6 (and that record should have been significantly better) with a 2.40 something ERA in 2003 (the height of the steroid era). That's the best single season of pitching that many Cubs fans have ever seen and probably will ever see in their lifetimes. I don't see how drafting that guy was a mistake unless they knew he was fragile, and there was little if any reason to believe that at the time IIRC.
  12. I can't think of one athlete who's taken more crap since 2004 for no real reason like Carlos Zambrano. He's done a couple of idiotic things since being here, but it has reached the point where he is almost literally ripped for doing anything other than playing baseball.
  13. Um, no, they should not.Didn't you hear the man? He said he doesn't care what you say!!! :-)
  14. Kelly has been quoted as saying Floyd will play all the games or none of them, which means he is going to play all of them. how in the world do you know that? you think kelly has been this public about it just for show? jesus. what i've heard is kelly has pretty rigorous [expletive] for floyd to complete and if he does it, he'll reinstate for all the games. while he's had 3 alcohol incidents, the first 2 were minor in possession, so i think it's a bit different from stonum. i think stonum is probably [expletive]. I don't know that, I just find it incredibly unlikely that A) Floyd would fail to impress Kelly with his various rehab efforts, and B) that Kelly would really excise Floyd entirely from his senior year. I expect to see Floyd out there against USF.
  15. Yeah, it was really nice to see the team happy about something for once. Good win.
  16. Kelly has been quoted as saying Floyd will play all the games or none of them, which means he is going to play all of them.
  17. I covered Hatch in a sectional game back in March. He had a great game. Horrible story. Really hope he pulls through.
  18. Do you think any of the Cubs that participated in the video are homosexuals? What do you want them to do about it? I don't see your reasoning. And how do any of us know that there aren't any Cubs who are gay? The statistics would say there is a very good chance there is. If the message is "don't be a bully, and if you are being bullied, hang in there", then that's fine. If the message is "hey, if you're gay, it gets better", then the message is a bit hollow coming from baseball players because professional sports is one of the least welcoming environments for anyone who is gay. It's a bit like an all white country club putting out a message to minorities that "it gets better". Even if the people putting out the message aren't bigots themselves. Yeah, it's almost like a move like this is done almost entirely for P.R. or something. *waits for the sarcasm to be missed*
  19. Not that he's going to do much in the pros, but the Bulls should definitely make an FA offer to Ben Hansbrough - especially since they didn't draft a shooter anyway.
  20. So Minnesota has traded from 20 to 23 to 28 and now what did they get now? The Heat's 31st pick and a future 2nd rounder apparently.
  21. I'm not a big Jimmy Butler fan. He was like the 3rd or 4th best player on a bubble team last year. So there's that.
  22. So Norris Cole was actually picked for the Heat, who traded up to get the 28th pick from Minnesota, who originally got it from the Bulls. This is wacky.
  23. Actually to Denver via Portland. Rudy Fernandez to Dallas.
