  1. That's simply not true. Most of them it's because they don't have a quality 3rd pitch to be a starter. He's being a smart-ass. If finding relievers is so damn hard then why do the same few organizations always seem to have good ones? And if our guys are so smart, how come our bullpen's been a crater of awful for 3 years? Are you really that dense, or just drunk tonight? The Yankees had a good one for so long because of Rivera. The Cards have a good one because they have an entire farm system so chock full of arms they can afford to use their top prospect as a setup man and it is still a good idea. The Cubs finally are in a spot where they have a bunch of major league ready semi-young arms in the minors, but 10 days into the season is far to early to torpedo the entire pen and start over. Well, they're not going to torpedo the pen and bring up minor leaguers because they're not trying to win this year, but that's a different thing. And I understand we don't have the depth to have 6 or 7 great young arms down there, but there's a wide gulf between that and this [expletive] mess, and I can't believe we haven't found it. Not every team with a decent bullpen is stocked with terrific minor league arms.
  2. Of course it's going to be [expletive] Yadier

  4. ERA 3.02, FIP 3.62, xFIP 3.95. xFIP has been 3.80 or higher the last 4 seasons. #BoyGenius Wow, and I thought it was bad enough that you felt you needed to break out the "no quality FA relievers signed excluding the ones that were because I don't think they should count" comment. Gregg's FIP and xFIP were even higher than Veras' last year
  5. ERA 3.02, FIP 3.62, xFIP 3.95. xFIP has been 3.80 or higher the last 4 seasons (and every other year of his career) #BoyGenius
  6. I wonder what our record would be if we could crap out decent relievers like St. Louis, Oakland, Tampa Bay, etc. seem to be able to do. Still bad, I'm sure, I just wonder.
  7. So we can flip him for prospects after he inevitably saves 20 games with a 1.32 ERA for us by July
  8. When was the last good FA reliever we got? If you don't count the smoke and mirrors we got from Gregg last year.
  9. Do other teams run on Molina in big spots or is it just us? Because we sure do it a [expletive] of a lot
  10. Maybe if we held a GIDP tourney in spring training we'd be as shitty at that as we are at bunting
  11. I mean it was a [expletive] play but that was a really high flyout and it actually worked out better for us because it got Wong off the bases. Castro was looking at Wong and that's why he dropped it, I don't think it's anything to worry about
  12. infield fly is only 1st and 2nd or bases loaded Huh, I didn't realize that. I thought it was if there was a force at any base. It's not because in this case the offensive team isn't hurt by the drop. With runners on 1st and 2nd every IF could just intentionally let every pop-up drop in and get 2 outs
  13. IF fly requires runners on 1st and 2nd
  14. Maybe this time we'll score some runs for Shark?
  15. Deckhairs, Titanic, etc. Seems like anyone we put in the pen is going to suck anyway. That said, I agree, get rid of either or both.
  16. What a tool. "How dare you ban us for blatantly failing to even pretend to try to graduate our players!" Then again, I couldn't and still can't [expletive] stand Calhoun, so that colors my opinion a bit.
  17. Yeah, but just wait until our top-10 pick in the 2016 draft gets to the big leagues sometime late in 2018
  18. The "Lance Berkman is scared of lightning" game comes immediately to mind
  19. I fell into a YouTube rabbit hole watching old Sosa clips the other day after David's post and saw one, don't remember when, that barely snuck into the basket on a line. I also distinctly remember a Sammy rainstorm HR against the White Sox (again barely snuck out) that was essentially a walk-off because everyone in the stadium knew there would be no next inning.
  20. They're going to win the division, so it's probably best to just not worry about all their bull [expletive] until the playoffs.
  21. I'm probably on the low end of income for people on this board, granted, but $2500 is an absolutely stupid amount to spend on a ring. (I spent just under $900, before anyone asks)
  22. "Guys, why would we be sad? Everyone's happy about the minor leagues. Oh yeah, I guess there's the other part, too." "Our morale is so high as we continue to put up historically awful performances in the only area that counts."
