  1. Worth noting, if you have cable/satellite, Extra Innings is on a free trial today through Thursday.
  2. I'm a little surprised Schwarber is 2 and Rizzo 4, but man that is a sexy lineup.
  3. Yeah, that's probably the difference between this and Cutler (though I'm not a Bears fan, so who knows). There seems to be a subset of Bears fans that gleefully mock Cutler, while we all want to love Lester.
  4. The Giants and Mets. We grudgingly accept STL victories in those games if they come.
  5. With as terrible as Castro is now, I hope Joe bats him in that range.
  6. Well, presumably Schwarber isn't going to become the defensive catcher Montero is in that time period, so my only answer for you is that these things tend to work themselves out. Either an OF vacancy is created by trade/injury/someone falls off the face of the earth or Schwarber becomes a super-sub at 1B/OF/C under your scenario.
  7. I have to think if Theo and Jed thought it would be that bad he wouldn't be getting called up.
  8. WTF is wrong with him now? huh? the same injury that has him on the DL and that prompted this callup yeah, I mean I don't remember what it was. He jammed his thumb on a swing Sunday.
  9. And of course, the Cubs have to couple a decidedly logical move with a ridiculous one. SSR is probably right about the defensive replacement thing.
  10. Was just discussing this with my friend last weekend when we were at Wrigley. Glad the Cubs are doing this. It's not optimal, but Schwarber has become our best option, and the only move then is to get him here even if we'd prefer he work on his catching in a lower-pressure environment.
  11. Great article. The race to declare any sporting event that doesn't affect that year's championship, in any sport, as 'meaningless' has always bugged me.
  12. I had forgotten about Byrd, or that he was even an All-Star. That was pretty cool.
  13. None of those last 3 you posted, that's for damn sure. Len's call of Aramis' Brewers walk-off was pretty terrific.
  14. Also, good for the NL, but why the hell did it have to be Peralta on a delightfully STL like hit?
  15. It seems like it's been a long time since a Cub has really done anything relevant in an All-Star Game. Off the top of my head, Soriano homering way back in 07 is the last big thing anyone did.
  16. It's dumb that the ASG decides WS home field, but it was reallllly [expletive] dumb that it just switched between the leagues before.
  17. There are already multiple cities that really ought not to have teams. Not sure adding more is the best plan.
  18. Also, even though it's not after the All-Star Game yet, I'm burning both my post-ASG transactions now, too. Drop Matt Adams, add Carlos Gonzalez (I'm almost certain I will regret picking CarGo over other options) Drop Stanton, add Trout
  19. I'm going to risk it and switch to Joc too.
  20. They would've cost us Kris Bryant
  21. I was going to post exactly this. Bryant is hitting the [expletive] out of everything good, but he's not getting much good.
  22. It's pretty much irrelevant to those, like me, that prefer the NL style. No pitcher is ever going to bat in an All-Star Game as it's currently played anyway, so this makes it easier for the managers to execute the real purpose of the game, to get as many players on the field as possible for as long as possible.
  23. Oh, good, the DH debate again. We don't do this enough.
  24. Gets the DH spot. [tweet] [/tweet]
