    That's what I hate most about it. People excuse it because, 'hey, you tried', when in fact you ran yourself out of an opportunity. But where I disagree is that you are coming at it from the perspective that it fails every single time when it fact it works out more than it doesn't. It needs to work out far more than it doesn't to justify it. Isn't it generally accepted that you have to successfully steal like 75-80% of the time for it to even be a neutral effect on your offense?

    Seeing as how Motte's thrown 39 pitches the last two days and Soriano 40, I'm guessing neither is available. Excellent. We might actually get our best relievers pitching late in this one.

    Foolish Rockies, tossing a LHP against Ross. They fell right into our trap.

    If either Motte or Soriano pitch in this game I'm going to be supremely annoyed.

    Olney and Bowden both mentioned the Cubs as a team in on the Price bidding now that DET has reportedly put him on the market.

    His adjustments have really been impressive. Plenty of reason for optimism that he will become the 'Barry Larkin' that Beane promised when he sent him over.

    There's a subset of Cubs fans that are overly wedded to the prospect brigade, and another subset (which I'm begrudgingly on the fringes of) that doesn't think think this iteration of this team is likely to justify a win-now move. I'd like for things to be going better, but I can understand the POV of not wanting to make a move the way the season is playing out.

    I agree. Starlin's performance has been terrible but the last thing I want to see is Joe pile on.

    Of WC1, yes. But they're only 3.5 behind the Twins for WC2 (albeit with 3 other teams in between them).

    Being in the AL must be nice.

    Basically this Tigers sucking streak is probably the worst case scenario for the Cubs long term. We probably would have better odds getting Price as a FA than we ever will in a deadline trade, especially with the recent struggles probably making the FO lukewarm on being huge buyers I may be misunderstanding your point, but from that POV wouldn't that be a good thing for possibly getting Price? He wouldn't cost a draft pick, which was a stated reason the FO was so excited to go get Lester. Unless you're saying you think whoever trades for Price would be able to lock him up long-term.

    They should. Even if (especially if) they're not getting rid of him, he needs a few days to collect himself anyway.

    Castro benched too, and Soler. It probably won't have much net effect but I'm glad Joe is at least trying something to shake things up.

    Well, SF is improbably losing, so maybe not. But we are well past the point of this offense being merely in a slump. They're just not good.

    And apparently Stephen A Smith's report that he'd heard Brady destroyed his phone was actually accurate. Might be the biggest upset of the day.

    Gotta like the Royals sensing their opportunity and going all in. Hope it works out better than Oakland did. And also, obligatory 'good thing he's going to the AL' comment.

    The answer is both. Hopefully that 9th is the kick in the ass Joe needs to get our best relievers into better spots.
