  1. this isn't the nba, 150 points of OPS from anthony rizzo isn't going to determine whether the team is good or not. A .750 OPS Anthony Rizzo vs. a .900 OPS Anthony Rizzo would have a pretty significant effect on the team.
  2. Why is this even being brought up? He's been hurt most of the year and can't play.
  3. I think it also depends on what you consider to be a "hit." Even if they never make the majors, it's more likely that the higher bonus guys will actually get a chance to play in a full season league in the US, and potentially be a meaningful prospect that could be used in a trade. A guy like Yorman Rodriguez hasn't done much in his career, but he still probably holds some trade value.
  4. I think Arrieta may be a reliever for this team long-term, anyways.
  5. If slot money is really this valuable, we should be selling ours, not trying to buy more of it.
  6. I bet Samardzija would too.
  7. Pretty odd seeing IU in a meaningful sporting event of any kind that's nor soccer or basketball. Epically bad at every other sport historically. Tracy Smith is a good coach. He was the head coach at Miami when I was there, and they went to a CWS and had a few guys drafted pretty high.
  8. The power has been impressive so far, but the 0:7 BB:K ratio has not.
  9. It was at Pony Inn like an hour ago. I think #cuptracker is trending on twitter right now Home of the gigantic grilled cheeses. It's at the UC now.
  10. Was Concepcion's money an upfront signing bonus? If not, I wonder if they will attempt to get insurance to pay for whatever is left on the contract.
  11. More walks than strikeouts for Javy over the last 10 games.
  12. Yeah, Pie's stats were never the problem. Still surprised he didn't turn out to be anything in the majors.
  13. Well his development certainly would have been handled better. And even with that, he was well on his way to becoming a pretty good player in the majors before the Dusty hammer came down.
  14. Wow. Not too shabby at all. And all position player prospects. The last time the Cubs had two prospects period in the Top 30 was 2002 with Mark Prior and Juan Cruz. They almost had two position player prospects in the Top 30 in 2005 with Dopirak and Pie, but Pie was ranked 31st. The last time they had two or more position player prospects ranked in the Top 30 at the same time was 2001 with Patterson and Choi. Cruz was also ranked 17th then (and Ben Christensen was 37th). That's the only time they've had 3 in the Top 30. They never had more than two in the Top 30 prior to that going back to 1990. So that's only 2 times in the last 23 years that they've have two players or more in Baseball America's Top 30 prospects. If Bryant is signed, we'd probably have 4 right now come next season. Pretty incredible. EDIT: I know Parks is BP and not BA, just wanted to add some perspective Those prior names in the Top 30 do not fill me with confidence. I'm hoping that we hit on two of the current top 4 guys but 1 is probably more realistic (by "hit" I mean All-Star type player). Patterson, Choi, Dopirak and Pie are vastly different (and by different I mean worse) prospects than Baez, Soler, Almora and Bryant. Granted, the chances of all 4 of the Cubs current prospects reaching their ceilings is low, but it's higher than the previous group because they actually have individualized developmental plans, worthwhile instructors and their skill sets includes at least some pitch recognition which comes in handy in the bigs. Choi was the only prospect that exhibited any plate discipline, and he netted the Cubs Derrek Lee. Dopirak's big year was in Low-A and kinda sucked after that. Pie and Patterson were tools guys that lacked a batter's eye and weren't properly prepared for major league pitching. While I agree with most of what you said, as a "prospect", Patterson was better than anyone we currently have.
  15. I'm looking forward to seeing Hannemann but I don't know if he would have been there tonight. Did he get added to the roster already? Do you have me blocked? :( I should hope not. I am studying for the Bar though, so my brain is not in top shape. Just wait until July comes around.
  16. I think that's probably true. But our hitting talent is light years ahead. I don't really care which side we get the minor league talent, as long as it's there.
  17. It's possible he gets brought up if Almora goes to Daytona, with Hannemann taking his place at Boise.
  18. If there's any way to get them to agree to Zimmer/Ventura and Cam Gallagher. I'd be a very happy man. Send some prospects back. Include an OFer. Whatever it takes. Git 'er done. Doesn't ABTY's source supposedly work for the Royals? No way they give up on Zimmer this early.
  19. Does that mean he expects Bryant to make more overall than Appel or he expects Bryant to sign overslot? I read that as more overall than Appel. He probably expects Bryant to get slot.
  20. Has Paniagua shown up anywhere yet?
  21. And then Hendry forgot we had the highest OPS against RHP's in the NL and proceeded to try and get more "left-handed."
  22. Did you include Ankiel's pitching WAR too? It probably doesn't matter anyways.
  23. Except neither really was. I'm not going to argue semantics, but one's career was over at the age of 25, and the other one failed to get 600 plate appearances in a season after the age of 24. Considering how highly touted they were, I'd say that's pretty disappointing. And I place the majority of the blame on Dusty Baker for both players' career arcs.
  24. Pretty sad we had the #2 prospect 2 years in a row and they were both busts.
