  1. Yeah, 1970s Orioles. He had many many winning seasons based on his philosophy of great pitching, strong fundamentals, and 3-run homers. Think of him as a precursor to Moneyball. He didn't screw around with pointless stealing, bunting, hit-and-run, "begin aggressive," all that jazz. His players took walks and were subsequently batted in with the longball. It really makes perfect sense, but Joe Morgan And Friends hate it because it flies in the face of this tired station-to-station, five-tool player, intangibles crap that's been ingrained in the system. EDIT: I love that the entire speech has been edited out of the thread for profanity. Kinda comes with the territory when you quote Weaver! I tried to censor it. http://users.rcn.com/pkatcher/audio/EarlWeaverTirade.mp3 Here. Greatest tirade ever. Better than Lee Elia. Better than "what's your opinion of Kingman." There are bad words, so use discretion. There.
  2. Whoever?!? That's Earl Weaver!
  3. http://www.baseballhalloffame.org/hofers_and_honorees/hofer_bios/images/Weaver_Earl_3.jpg Edited to remove profanity Keep it clean please!
  4. With Brenly, it seems like every single play is either 1)a great time to lay down a bunt 2)a great time to use the hit and run. That's why we hired him, I guess. Oh and yeah, that sucks about the Braves. Fox ruins baseball.
  5. Yesssssss... Now Cubs are playing "smartball" and actually do something good, score a run... and people complain. 'smartball' just erased a baserunner. Smartball is not smart. weaver4lyfe
  6. Why would the Marlins take Rusch? He's too expensive for them.
  7. I never thought I'd say it, but I'm sick of [expletive].
  8. I was amused by "The biggest surprise is the treatment -- they really treat us well here and the fans especially. It's unbelievable. Every day I go out there and listen to the fans, it's unbelievable. The game we won in the eighth inning [on Monday against the Marlins] the other day, I thought it was the most unbelievable place in the world. Just the support here is really cool." Such a big difference from Jacque Jones!
  9. Ok I won't tell you. Groan.
  10. Yowch, off the arm. I love when mods edit posts.
  11. Agreed Hairy sits tomorrow well every1 sits 2morow, lol, offday Seriously though. That was a doo-doo move. I hate when guys steal bases that don't need to be stolen. Hate it. Mod Note: Please see the Message Board Guidelines for the board policy on language.
  12. WHOA. Santo just REAMED Hairston on that one. And rightfully so.
  13. On strikeouts: I'll take a nine-pitch strikeout over a one-pitch groundout. Strikeouts are not the worst thing in the world, people.
  14. Which is inevitably followed by the bitching about the bitching about the bitching... Turtles down the line!
  15. Awesome.
  16. My favorites are John Smoltz ironing the shirt he was wearing and Vince Coleman being eaten by the tarp machine.
  17. Theriot or Fontenot, maybe?
  18. September, actually.
  19. Now Grady Little won't have any bullpen to not go to!
