  1. Pragmatism from a guy named "bring stone back." I love it I'm not saying he'd fix Lee's arm. That's not even a concern. We're talking down the road here. If you read the thread, you'd know we were talking about the accountability of solo or majority owners over corporations or "Insert City Sports & Entertainment" consortia. When the Yankees win, Steinbrenner wins. When the Yankees lose, Steinbrenner loses. These owners usually tend to care more about winning (get outta here Bill Wirtz). Cuban wants to win, that's obvious. He's also tried to implement statistical analysis into running the Mavericks, something fairly new for the NBA, so he's obviously on the cutting edge of sports research: no more "he's a great athlete, he's fast" crap. He knows how to hire good coaches, like Avery Johnson. Cuban would be a good fit for any team. Look what he's already done for the Mavs, previously an NBA laughingstock.
  2. "I am about to punch you. Are you ready? It's gonna hurt. Because I'm strong. So I'm gonna punch you. Okay, on 3. No wait, it'll be on Go. Okay. 1....2....3....GO"
  3. We should all be rooting for the Mavericks in the NBA Playoffs now. If the Mavericks win, that would probably be the best time for Cuban to cash out of Dallas and try to win one with the Cubs.
  4. All I hear from Ozzie is "jkvdjkd fdjkfdksdf [expletive] jfkfg fuckin fdhfsdn piece of [expletive] fghjkfdsf fuckin fhjsdk [expletive]."
  5. "Your most valuable possessions are your twenty-seven outs." Whoever believes it should be hired.
  6. Guys, Brenly isn't a good manager. You think we see the hit-and-run and sac bunt too much now? It'd only get worse. Aren't there ANY Weaver disciples out there?
  7. Both Jacksons are clowns, but I certainly think Jesse would try to leech off the situation nonetheless, what with it being practically in his backyard, and the Dusty ineptitude becoming a bigger and bigger story for him to piggyback on. It could happen.
  8. You don't think he'd jump on it? I do.
  9. Dusty Baker won't get fired because firing two black managers in a row = Jesse Jackson hijinks
  10. I really do hope someone throws a punch at Guillen next. I don't care. Season's over. Knock that bastard's teeth out for all I care.
  11. I agree with you, in the sense that the booing has gotten worse since the players have complained and the organization has gone out of it's way to make a point that it isn't helping and isn't a good thing. However, in the end it makes us look bad and not the organization. Still, come on. What do you do when your mom wags her finger in your face and yells at you for doing something? You do it some more. That's the case here. Getting inundated almost daily with "the club and its players do not condone this booing! Stop this booing! Stop now! Stop! Right Dusty? 'Hey, dude, don't boo.' See? Now stop!" just makes me want to boo them because I resent being scolded so damn much.
  12. I think the club, to an extent, is really exacerbating the whole problem. The whole Jacque Jones/bleacher love affair is not really helped by Carrie Muskat scolding and chiding the Cubs fanbase for booing in every single column on the site. It's like having your mother as the beat writer.
  13. Don't get me wrong, I hate Dusty Baker as the manager of the Cubs, but I wouldn't want Ozzie either. "HE HAS A RING!" So does Brenly. Who cares?
  14. Hill goes 5, gives up 5, I'm thinking 96 pitches.
  15. Who did he piss off in 2004 when he couldn't get run support from anyone?
  16. Len sounds like Plastic Joe Buck. He still does a good job, though.
  17. I thought the verb was Kerrigan
  18. Yes it would and no they won't.
  19. I'm still shocked WGN didn't just simulcast Pat and Ron as a cost-cutting measure. Bob Brenly has improved a lot, but he's not a Cubs announcer to me; he could just be anywhere. Also, the next play that isn't a great time to bunt or a great time to try the hit-and-run will be the first. Why can't he ever say "now's a great time to knock one on Waveland"?
  20. If it's Weaver On Strategy, I own it. Almost mailed it to the Cubs to prove a point but I wanted to keep it. However, maybe we can organize a "Weaverbombing" of the Cubs offices if bad bunts and steals start to really add up.
  21. Earl also felt that being a "players' manager" was a load of crap, and kept himself distant from his players. If you don't make promises to your players, you can't break them later. Man, what an ideal manager.
  22. Is it just me or is Chip Caray calling like all the TBS games lately? I want one last chance to here Skip Caray and Pete Van Wieren before Fox ruins that.
  23. I appreciate that you attempted to edit it. Unfortunately, that quote is probably impossible to edit to remove an "R" rating. The link with the discretion warning is acceptable. Thanks! A picture of Earl Weaver captioned with "edited for profanity" is pretty funny itself.
  24. That was not only hilarious, but it is how I would run a baseball team. The end makes it. What did Alice Sweet from Norfolk ever do to him?
