  1. Seriously, that's just how Jones typically plays defense!!!!* *When he can be bothered to try to defend.
  2. And as every day passes, it becomes more and more apparent how truly incompetent Hodgson was in his brief stint. I think it says more about the culture in that locker room, led by the number one offender, Steven Gerrard. Clearly he thought Roy wasn't big enough to lead him. Is it Gerrard or Carragher? I hear conflicting reports about who's the locker room lawyer. Regardless, a huge part of a manager/coaches job -- especially in the professional ranks -- it to manage egos. I see that as no less the fault of Hodgson.
  3. And as every day passes, it becomes more and more apparent how truly incompetent Hodgson was in his brief stint.
  4. I think Duke will lose again. Even if they don't, their best win will be North Carolina (seriously). I don't think they're a lock for a top-seed.
  5. I hate to presume to speak for all IU fans . . . but I'll do it anyway. Something like 18 wins and the NIT next year (Zeller isn't an "instant impact" player like Wall/Cousins, but he almost certainly will still help a lot). Two years from now the team should actually be pretty good. Not Final Four good, but NCAA Tournament good. (And man would I figuratively kill to see IU in a tournament game again.) After that, when the 2012 class gains experience and future classes are added to it, the program has a chance to be very, very good.
  6. =D> I just think he's kind of a clown and isn't really much of a threat at IU. You're right, he's not much of a threat. It's not like he's got multiple 5-star recruits lined up in the coming years. No way they'll be good. (You are actually right, not in a facetious manner, about the clown part.)
  7. Why? I'd like more wins as much as anyone right now, but I'm willing to give the guy some time. Like I said earlier, this team needs to start showing more progress next year. Hopefully another year of experience, health (hopefully), and adding a good post player will do that. You can't ask for much more in what is lined up for 2012 and beyond. If IU is still playing this in two years I'll be concerned. I think the worst is behind them at this point. So if he misses the tournament next year he's not in any danger? Not even remotely. Which is good, because he's going to miss the tournament next year. That will be the last time in a long while though.
  8. He's been much more than an average recruiter at IU. It's actually been an amazing recruiting job. His in-game coaching is still very questionable though. Amazing is a bit of a stretch. It'll be 3 full recruiting years before he brings in a difference maker to a program that recruits itself. I don't think Indiana really recruits itself anymore. Not on the level of a UNC/Duke/Kentucky. Heck, I think MSU "recruits itself" a little more than IU these days Within the state of Indiana in the very least. I hope you're right. But it really hasn't for quite some time (though that was mainly due to the epic incompetence of one Mike Davis).
  9. An average recruiter? That's just plain stupid. You might want to check out the classes he has lined up in the coming years. As for his in-game abilities, I think "horrible" is a stretch, but I certainly don't think he's great and the jury is still out.
  10. 2012 Final Four or bust. NIT Final Four Still aiming too high. I really don't give a crap about IU, but I love that Crean is just totally exposed right now Totally exposed? What in the world are you talking about?
  11. What awful news. Just when I thought perhaps IU had turned a (small) corner . . . Sure hope Jones is back soon. Scoring will be non-existant without him, Watford, and Creek. Really too bad, because this week offered two winnable games.
  12. Well, now there's no reason to read/listen to any baseball content by ESPN.
  13. Just to play devils advocate on this... As far as the points go, they're now either level on games played or have one more played than everyone else, whereas when Hodgson was canned, they had a game in hand on nearly everyone around them. Since then (after the Jan. 5 round of games), Liverpool has played four games, going 2-1-1, whereas nearly every other team has played either two or three. It's a lot easier to make up points when you're playing more games than the other teams, especially when the middle of the table is so tightly packed like it is this year (Liverpool is only six points ahead of Fulham, who is in 15th) and a good stretch can vault a team up the table. Also, all four games were against teams from the bottom half of the table. The road win against Wolves was a good one, since Liverpool has sucked away from Anfield this year, and I can't comment on exactly how they've played since I've only seen highlights on FSC's weekly show. But it seems like it's a bit too early to say Dalglish has righted the ship. Oh, the ship isn't righted; it's just steadied (a bit). Further -- I suppose I should have shown my work -- while LFC went 2-1-1 against bottom half of the table teams, they were 0-3 against those sides with Hodgson in charge (with two of those losses coming at home).
  14. I am*. They traded two younger, happier (and likely healthier, despite Carroll's current injury) strikers for one. When on form, Torres is the best involved by far -- when in form, he's the best in the world -- but he hasn't been at his best for a long time. Will he ever be again? I have no idea, but it certainly looks like he's lost a step at this point (perhaps he'll regain it, he's by no means old). His finishing was still pretty clinical this year, but everything else . . . Carroll's fee was rather exorbitant, but his wages will be much less than Torres, so some money was saved there. They also had really no choice but to overpay. Oh, I didn't dig up our earlier conversation, but just for the record before the new players debut: after only four games Dalglish has Liverpool in seventh, the highest they've been all season. Subjectively, they've also played a much more aesthetically pleasing style. Liverpool has already reaped dividends from the managerial switch. *I should say I am from an unemotional perspective. Today was good business. But losing Torres -- previously my favorite player -- sucks.
  15. Sky is now reporting Liverpool have confirmed the bid was accepted. First it was rejected, then Carroll put in an official transfer request and they approved it. Torres to Chelsea is all but official at 50 some million pounds. I doubt they are getting Anelka back since they bought Suarez and Carroll. I clearly think Carroll is overpriced, but if you look at it from the perspective of Liverpool just swapped a constantly injured player for two of the best young strikers in the world, you've got to count it as a huge win for Henry and co. I think there is little doubt Carroll is overpriced -- I just don't think Liverpool had any choice. Torres forced their hand and they absolutely had to replace him. You always pay a premium (1) for English players; (2) in January (especially up against the deadline); and (3) when the other team knows you need to buy. Not replacing Torres would have been devastating on many levels. I'd also venture to guess they're better off now than before (especially with sulking Torres). The rebuilding job is not complete, though.
  16. That's almost certainly not true (Hendry doesn't appear to have been in Europe/England/Liverpool to have had such meeting). That said, LFC is definitely in on Suarez. Hopefully they get it done. Yeah the rumor has been shot down, hopefully they can get him in and I would like a natural winger as well so. http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/lates...ee-suarez-deal :yahoo: (Only because there's no biting emoticon)
  17. Ha ha, see, I knew if I didn't qualify that statment someone would post what you posted. Someone posted it anyway . . . Creek was a quality player though, on a team with precious few. I couldn't have possibly been more sarcastic. Oh, I know. It was funny.

  19. Well, yes, technically, but context following. The student section has been later arriving and somewhat sparser this year. In a vacuum, you're right (and the heads/costumes are of course ridiculous). However, the student section was starting at such a great size, it's not terribly surprising (note: some of this is uncited, so grain of salt is fair). IU reserves forty-eight percent of its seating for students (which, last I heard was the most in the nation) -- and that's for the second largest stadium in the Big Ten for the third smallest total enrollment in the conference. So it's pretty relative -- IU is still receiving excellent student support/attendance, though it has decreased to some extent.
  20. Agreed. It's really, really unfortunate, but anything IU gets from Creek from this point on has to be considered gravy. I'm not counting on much of anything from him in the future. It really sucks for him as a player/kid and for the program, which was by no means in a position to lose a competent player, much less one of Creek's caliber*. *Just for clarification, because I can imagine that statement getting taken way ouf of context, Creek was a future all-Big Ten performer and likely four-year leading scorer for IU -- I'm not implying he was a future NBA star or even future NBA player. But he was huge for IU's development.
  21. While technically his third season, this is really more like Crean's second season. The first season he merely drained the swamp and had no time to recruit, other than a makeshift class. His was not a normal rebuilding job. He only has two legitimate classes on campus now, with four strong classes lined up the next four years. The natives will definitely get (more) restless if next year isn't an improvement (and it's by no means a lock to be much better). This team should be better, in my opinion, but he has built up equity with his recent recruiting successes.

  23. Ok? Meaning it's a fair prediction. So? That point doesn't seem to be in contention.
