  1. You know that they played each other twice this year, right?
  2. He classified down a grade. Let's just say, well, he wouldn't be going to Michigan if he wasn't really good at basketball.
  3. Congrats to him. He was a great coach and is an awesome guy.
  4. Yes. He basically attempted to use Christianity as a veil to sexual assualt. It's entirely despicable, which is why I said he wasn't a d, he's a huge d. He's just a better coach than generally given credit for (except in the NCAA Tournament, it seems . . .).
  5. If you want to be right downtown for a bar, I'd suggest Scotty's or Kilroy's. While I don't love either, both will be full of basketball fans and are the best of subpar bar options downtown (if you have more time this weekend, the Mass Ave area is much better for food/bars, and is in the downtown area too). I was going to say, Mass Ave would be the best place to go but its on the other end of downtown I believe, but the bars are of a much higher quality. Also love the outdoor deck at the Rathskeller on a nice night. Yeah. I live downtown and always go to Mass Ave to eat/drink. It's a 10-20 minute walk depending on where. But for someone coming to a sporting event at Lucas, the places immediately downtown are more convenient.
  6. Kind of? He's a huge d. That said, he's a solid coach. If he can figure out his tournament bugaboos (which may be fluke-ish anyway) he could do quite well there. While obviously no home run, it's better than Mark Gottfried.
  7. Agree, and I have no idea what happened after that Michigan State game. Are we certain Zeller is leaving for the draft? He's going to have to be able to shoot the ball better from mid range to make any impact in the NBA as he's going to be soft around the rim in that league. I think he has to. His stock is just going to continue to drop the more he stays in college. The only prospects that benefit from staying are ones who are great athletes but raw. Zeller's flaws won't really get better by staying. I still think he will leave, but I disagree with this. Zeller could improve his stock by developing/showing a consistent mid-range jump shot. He's going to have to make that shot in the NBA. That is a "flaw" that is certainly correctable in college.
  8. I think overall they should be pretty good next year. I just worry the Big Ten is going to be a nightmare for them with their interior play. Illinois, Michigan and Minnesota should be worse next year. MSU might be worse (only 1 recruit next year and its 3 stars). I mean the Big Ten should still be really good just probably not as good as this year. Yeah. The league will still be good but it should not be nearly as strong. Also maybe not quite as bullish inside as many years, which could make life easier for IU.
  9. I think John Groce told him to piss off it was his job, so Brad did. Ha ha, excellent.

  11. My suspicion about Illinois is that he was concerned with dealing with recruiting Chicago. As for Kansas, maybe not, it just doesn't seem to have the obvious things Stevens likely would consider issues. But it also might not be the obvious fit he wants either.
  12. I heard a rumor that Crean was great at game prep Ha ha, hard to believe after that crapfest, huh? In all honesty, though, I think if you watched the first few possessions again you see some good movement/ideas. It just went to all hell so quickly after that.
  13. This is why I wasn't insulting Illinois last year when I said I didn't think Stevens would go there. I never have thought he'd leave even for all the top-6 jobs. I think there are two of those he would certainly go to, two he probably would, and two he probably wouldn't. Indiana-Duke UNC-Kansas Kentucky-UCLA ? Yes. Obviously I'm guessing. I have met him and his wife . . . but obviously this isn't something they're going to discuss with me, haha. I should add that I don't mean to exclude any non top-6 job, just that his list is likely very limited (like, it wouldn't shock me if he thought harder about Illinois than UCLA).
  14. Sorry, I forgot 2001. I think that Illinois team was the third best in the nation, but they were stuck with the second best (Arizona) in their region.
  15. Man you picked against IU? That sucks. Well. . . when another team punched this team in the mouth, they puckered. And they slumped at the end of the season (right after the game I started fully believing in them!). Plus, well, the bench is incapable of adjusting when things aren't going well. None of that is a great recipe for success n the tournament. I'm sure there was some subconscious reverse-jinxing at work; my secondary bracket did have them in the Final Four. I've pretty much said all this all year long--to the point other IU fans accused me of hating/not enjoying this team. But, of course, on the flip-side, any positive statement about IU or its players is met with the eye-rolling"typical IU fan bias" nonsense. Obviously you made the right call, I just can't not pick Illinois when they have a one seed. Those years I pick us to win it all, lol. Well both the 1989 and 2005 teams were much better (even relatively) than this IU team. Though I picked UNC to beat you guys in 2005. I've only picked IU to win the title once, and that was just because I stubbornly didn't want to believe Alan Henderson was hurt. That's also the only time I've even picked IU to the Final Four. But there really haven't been many opportunities to do so since I've followed it.

  18. And he seems rather unathletic. He's actually pretty athletic. I would expect him to grade out pretty well at the pre draft stuff. But he plays soft and much, much smaller than he is. Nor did he improve, at all, from last year to this. Crean can develop guards/wings, but it's not looking good on the big man front.

  20. I was worried Syracuse might be a nightmare matchup...it was. I think IU was 4-4 on foul-line jumpers, yet they continued to drive to get their shots blocked. I'm not entirely sure that is actually Crean's fault; they could hardly complete a pass. I thought the gameplan looked good early, but turnovers kill any gameplan. Regardless, IU was never the same team after the win at Michigan State. They were 24-3 at that point and 5-4 after. Not sure there ever will be an explanation for that. On the bright side, I'm likely to win my pool. Not surprisingly, I was the only person with Syracuse advancing to the Final Four (and everyone had either Louisville or Indiana winning the title).
  21. Yeah, I thought Beasley played pretty well in the second. And as big of a fan of his as I am (I played against his brother), I would have thought long and hard about taking him off at halftime. But that proved unnecessary.
  22. Beasley . . . Poor play plus a yellow, he can't be long for this game, right?
  23. At first I thought the game started at 9:30. I was sad when I learned that was only pregame (though it says good things about soccer's popularity here that boring things will be said for an hour before a match).
  24. What in the hell is that!? Creepy . . .
