  1. IU is much, much better when Basset is in there. Even though he's not a true point guard, their offensive flow and ball movement is so much better when he plays(was last year, too). He will evidently have to play through pain all season with bone chips/spurs, which will certainly limit him. His shot has been off since he twisted his ankle, he's not exploding up to shoot and he's often landing on one foot. IU should win tonight, regardless.
  2. Not that I would complain, but I don't see what IU's done to deserve a #3 seed at this point. I think there's a good chance they'll get there by season's end as they've been impressive, but their resume leaves a lot to be desired.* Sagarin does have them #18. *As much as I've complained about their schedule, it's not all their fault. They did schedule Kentucky, UConn, at Southern Illinois and ACC/Big Ten Challenge. To this point, though, they've lost by 15 to the best team they played.
  3. I'll echo what's been said: if the conditions are nice, the Pats will likely roll over the Jags.
  4. I'm biased, but I'd put us at #1. Hard to argue with Memphis, though. Where is it? We never play well in Columbia. Either way, we have no business losing to you guys this year. I'd probably vote Kansas #1 right now. Still think UCLA is the best team though.
  5. I didn't see/hear that. That's completely absurd and ridiculous. It actually makes me a little angry; they get paid for their opinion. Turner may be a good OC, but he's been terrible as a head coach. Fischer, on the other hand, is a top-5, at least, head coach. Coaching is a HUGE mismatch in that game. Unbelievable. Yeah, I laughed quite a bit when they said that. It was bad enough when Emmitt said that he would surprise some people with his pick, but then Jackson said Turner was an advantage as if it's common knowledge. How can 1-1 career in the playoffs and under .500 career regular season (Turner) be better than 5-4 career playoff record - with a Super Bowl appearance - and over .500 career regular season? Turner's definitely out-coaching Fischer so far...
  6. We are going to be lucky to win 5 games in the Big Ten. We might beat Michigan and Minnesota, but I wouldnt be surprised if we didnt. This teams not going to any tournament, and yes it sucks ass. Minnesota? They're one of the best five teams in the league. Not saying you can't beat them, but no way should they be grouped with Michigan. Yea not real sure why I put Minny in there except that the 1 time i sen them this year they didnt look too impressive. Honestly, I'm not sure they'll ever look too good. But Tubby is a great coach and they have size and better talent than people think. I had them tabbed as sixth heading into the season, but it appears Illinois is going to struggle to finish my predicted fifth. Though I think they're better than they've shown recently.

  8. Will Jan 09 be THAT much better? I can't imagine why IG responds to you with shots at Sampson when you ask questions. Illinois under Weber is a guard oriented team. Adding Legion and Smith are huge additions. We'll infinitely increase the number of guys on the team who can make a damn jump shot. It was an honest question. I don't know Illinois like you do. I know you lose Pruitt and Randle. They aren't worldbeaters but they are decent. I know all your young guys are 2010 or later, that why I wondered about 09. That is why I asked the question. Quit looking so deep into things, I was honestly curious. It wouldn't have been hard to take your question as inflammatory. I thought it was.
  9. I think the Giants have a good chance next week. Regardless, I think the Packers are going to the Super Bowl.

  11. With the style Tennessee plays, I disagree that it would be an embarassment if the Chargers lose. The injuries are all on offense (Roydell and Scaife), so the defense should be fine keeping Tennessee in the game. I could easily see a 10-7 or so SD lead in the fourth, meaning just one play could decide it. The problem will be the Titans making that big offensive play at the end. Justin Gage will be our top receiver tomorrow. Ouch. I didn't mean to say Tennessee can't win. They have an excellent coach, SD is shaky at both QB and coach, and the Titans style should allow them to hang in. But with as poor as this collection of Chargers has been in the playoffs, losing to such a banged up team at home would be quite bad. Ok, I misunderstood. I thought you meant the Titans didn't have a chance on the field and I just couldn't figure out how that makes sense. If the Titans win a close game decided late, I think the Chargers will get off the hook a little. With Vince and his "clutchiness  " at QB, I think there's a decent chance the media will give the Chargers a pass. Now, if the Chargers somehow get blown out (I'd be utterly shocked), then I agree they'll get ripped. Your misunderstanding was my poor writing. It was late; that'll be my excuse. I have a lot of respect for Tennessee/any team coached by Jeff Fischer. But if San Diego loses another home playoff game...

  13. Oh thank goodness that didn't happen. Ha ha, that's what you say. I think your UCLA boy would've looked wonderful in a horseshoe.
  14. Going for two was a bad decision. You never go for two unless time is an issue. Time is NOT an issue down five with over 10 minutes left. Almost every situation favored going for one: if Pitt scored again (they did) or if Jax scored again (they did). It was a poor decision. In a game featuring Jack Del Rio, I can't believe we're talking about the other coach's poor strategy. Assuming San Diego wins tomorrow -- and as Vance said it would be an embarrassment if they didn't considering Tennessee's injuries -- Jacksonville better hope for bad weather conditions. If the weather is nice, New England will expose Jacksonville's poor pass defense. John Henderson also needs to be healthy. It would be nice if they'd play with discipline and refrain from idiocy (including Del Rio), but that likely is too much to ask. Tennessee does have a huge coaching advantage tomorrow. Edit: Maurice Jones-Drew is awesome. Jacksonville picked him at #60. The Colts were dying to take him at #62. Ugh, so close...
  15. That would be amazing if the AFC did the same pattern 3 years in a row. Win homefield advantage and a ton of games 1 year Lose before the Super Bowl Then, be a highly thought team at the beginning of the next year, but lose some games during the season and expose some serious flaws Then, have nobody pick you during the playoffs and of course go on to win the Super Bowl. That happened to both the Steelers and Colts. Could it happen to the Chargers and be 3 for 3? I doubt it, but I'm sure that's what was said about the other two as well. It would be crazy. The Chargers fit the Steeler/Colt mold perfectly. Before last season, I was hoping the Colts would be the Steelers of the previous year as I knew they weren't going 14-2 (or 13-0) again. As for the Chargers, I'd say the chances of them beating the Colts is about the same, or perhaps worse, as the Colts blowing them out. Edit: This was a less-than-eloquent post, for that I apologize.
  16. I'm not really surprised by that. ASU's talent level improved drastically from last year, and they have a far superior coach than Oregon. Oregon was destined to descend, a la 2002 to 2003. They were clearly overrated in the preseason polls, as you said. I wouldn't have ranked them at all, same with K-State. I agree with all you have said, though I didn't think Oregon would be as bad as they seem like they will be (not with Hairston, Porter and Taylor). ASU could be a bubble team this year, imo. I thought Oregon would be better, too, making the NCAA tournament at least. Sendek is an excellent game coach, and has been very successful when he has talent. I still think the PAC-10 is very strong, I just never liked Oregon or USC as much as most seemed to. I do, however, like Stanford more than most seem to.

  18. I still think Missouri was much more deserving of this spot, but that's the crappy BCS for you. They were. Before tonight there was little reason to believe Kansas could beat a top 15 team. Not that Va Tech isn't a top-15 team, but I think they're near the bottom of that. Sagarin had them fifth, I realize, but only eleventh in the predictor. I find their resume unimpressive for such a highly ranked team; wins at Clemson and Virginia are nice, and they did split with BC. But the ACC is weak (2-6 in bowls I believe, for what that's worth) and Va Tech was destroyed at LSU. We might have found out more about Va Tech in this game than we did Kansas. Edit: But congrats to Kansas, 12-1 and an Orange Bowl victory is quite impressive regardless.
  19. i know, FTH? Villanova's not very good. They've done nothing impressive this year, and their ranking is dubious at best.
  20. Easy, Kansas and Hawaii. Neither team beat anyone of note all season.
  21. I'm torn on Washington-Seattle, but will take the Seahawks at home. Other than that: Giants, Jags and Chargers.
  22. That's exactly what he said. It's exactly what every god complex next big thing coach who thinks he's got the system to beat all systems thinks. The only thing between him and a title is effort from the kids. In a way, you probably have to think that way. But it's pretty funny how insanely overhyped "buying into the system" has become with modern coach/gods. It's pretty ridiculous. I think this is the first time I've ever heard a coach call out his seniors in that sort of manner. I don't know how anyone can actually defend that statement. It was way out of line. Mike Davis did the same thing after the 2003 NCAA tournament.
  23. Indiana and Kansas had a great series in the early 90's. I miss it. I really, really wish Indiana would pick up Kansas again (or at least someone of their ilk). Stupid Jacque Vaughn.
  24. Should I not play Donald Driver in my fantasy championship game then? I'm pretty weak at WR, but I'd rather gamble on someone who will play the entire time. I wouldn't. There's going to be plenty of action for Ruvell Martin and James Jones, but I'm certain that Driver will only play a half at most. OK, thanks. I'm also worried about playing Deion Branch, in case he doesn't play the entire game. Other than that, it's basically Dwayne Bowe. Hmm...
