  1. Ugh. TBS is all black here, too. We don't get CSN here, it's not even an option. Chicago is over four hours away. Why in the heck am I blacked out? And why is the screen just all black? I hate, hate, hate MLB's blackout restrictions.
  2. Has their even been a more fortuitous torn ACL (from a KU fan's perspective)?
  3. I agree with the last part. I would offer slightly more than Billy D gets, but I wouldn't get into a bidding war with Pickens. Chances are we'd get Calipari if Self left. (TT would explode.) However, I disagree with the insinuation that we should be leery of offering Self a raise (with the implication being he's not a great coach) and that losing to Memphis would have been some kind of black eye. That team was good. What I meant was, I wouldn't go beserk on offering Self a big time raise. I mean Self really didn't do anything special, that Williams hadn't already did at KU, except for winning the championship. And while they did win it, they didn't because Self outcoached Calipari. And had THAT Free Throw go down, Self would have another LOONG offseason to explain how another talented KU team could underachieved so much. I would offer a singificant raise, but nothing earth-shattering. I would offer him an offer in the low Top 5-6 coaches in America in America. If Kansas would've lost, dropping their record to 36-4 and a loss in the National Championship game, that would've been underachieving? But I do agree that Self doesn't mean as much to Kansas as he would to Oklahoma State; KU would simply get another big time coach.
  4. Seriously, thanks for nothing WGN. I have class in 30 minutes and the video will probably be out until then.
  5. man, do you like anyone or anything in sports? i said i dislike john calipari, not john wooden. I'm with Truffle, Calipari's a snake Both coaches Truffle mentioned are.
  6. Huh, I'd heard around here that IUPUI's Ron Hunter led for that job.
  7. Better question is how the hell are the Cardinals off to best start since 2000. Tim Kurkjian (or some other ESPN anchor, they are all the same to me) picked them to win the division and I laughed at it at the time but now... But now what? Now that they've started the season 4-1 you think they're going to make a huge run at the division? There's absolutely nothing to 'but now...' about. Baltimore, Tampa Bay, Kansas City, the White Sox, and Florida are atop their respective divisions, you worried about them too? I could see Tampa Bay hanging in for awhile Tampa's going to surprise a lot of people this year. I'm not saying they'll make the playoffs, but they have a solid young core of players and they could be good for a long time, much like the Brewers are starting to be. I think you're right there as well. I wouldn't be shocked if they put up a winning season. You're right twice over. Tampa Bay is going to be much improved, and their future is even brighter -- though upward mobility will always remain difficult in that division. You're also right that the Cardinals record after five games is basically irrelevant. Edited for repetitive redundancy.
  8. don't tell that to crazy illini fans, they'll think you're a ku alum. i said this exact same thing on the scout board, along with my reasoning (ie: ku being a top 5 program nationally, and one could argue, the most prestigious job in college basketball seeing as how the guy who invented the game used to occupy the position), and some guy said i was a delusional ku alum, i swear. so, i guess that 1. stating that self is not going to abandon ku, and 2. stating that ku is a top collegiate program makes me not only delusional, but a ku alum. this is why people hate UI fans on the internet, most of them are too young to drive or are too old to go to the bathroom by themselves. i wish we could just stop the hate. self is not going to leave kansas, kansas is not illinois and osu is not kansas, get over it. Aren't you thinking of Rupp at Kentucky? Pretty sure the guy who invented it was James Naismith, and then KU had the legendary Phog Allen. Yeah, I was trying to figure out if that was sarcasm or a joke that I didn't get. Rupp wasn't even alive when basketball was invented.
  9. I selfishly hope Bassett is back. I watched him a lot in high school and always seemed like a good kid when I talked to him. On the other hand, I hope the door hits Ellis on the way out. Not sure what message it sends allowing either back, though. If what I've read about the dismissals being due to drug use are true then they both need to be gone. Crean needs to send out a very loud message early that lack of discipline and violating rules is a thing of the past. I think this is likely the way it has to happen. Not sure they can be allowed back; but, of course, we are not privy to all the information. Also, I can't imagine any coach would move from Kansas to Oklahoma State. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's a big reach. Probably even bigger than Kravitz's pet project of Izzo to Indiana, which was laughable.

  11. Oh, wow. That's awful. I saw him play in person for both UK and Louisville. That's really too bad. Hardly knew there were professional leagues in Africa.
  12. I'm pretty happy about this hire. I was expecting much worse. However, I do have reservations about Tom Crean. I've always considered him a good, but not great coach. Never thought of him as the next big thing. He hasn't recruited/developed big men, and, for a guard-oriented team, I never thought they passed or shared the ball as well as they should've. Outside of two years with Dwayne Wade -- and kudos to him for finding and developing such a great player -- his teams have but one NCAA Tournament win and have lost at least 10 games each season. I think he's a solid coach, no more. However, this is the best Indiana has had in a long time. He has no red flags. He's got Big Ten ties and has recruited Indiana well (still cursing Davis for not pursuing Dominic James harder). Marquette's also not the easiest place to win at, especially since moving to the Big East. Marquette was the 25th most efficient offense and 10th most efficient defense this season as well. I think he'll do well at Indiana, and better than he did at Marquette. I still wish Tony Bennett would've taken the job though.
  13. Couple of thoughts... Pat Summit would NEVER take the job, even if offered. I realize that IU fans think that they are God's gift to basketball (along with UK fans) and will ridicule me for saying so, but it's the absolute truth. You're right, I am going to ridicule you. I'm going to ridicule you for suggesting Indiana fans actually believe Pat Summit would leave Tennessee women's basketball for Indiana men's basketball. It's not going to happen; I doubt you find many, if any, IU fans that would tell you differently. Besides, I'm not really sure why IU, or any men's BCS type program, would want her.
  14. I'm not particularly fond of Dakich kicking players off the team days before a new coach is announced, much less when he's publicly campaigned for the job. I would certainly hope this wasn't a unilateral decision, but, even still, I think it could've waited. As to why, you have heard the "rumored" reasons for the earlier suspensions, no? That's your answer. Out with it man. Drugs. Let your reference to the Tony Bennett article guide you.
  15. Yes, one must wonder how serious a punishment this actually is. I wouldn't write their IU obituaries just yet. However, I for one, wouldn't miss Ellis.
  16. As I've been saying, money isn't going to be the issue as it was last time. The issue is going to be the administration's incompetence.

That's your answer. Finally, seeing as this is Indiana, hiring Dakich as full-time coach wouldn't surprise me. It's their modus operandi. The search they're conducting does stray from that; though it doesn't necessarily give me hope that someone preferable to Dakich will be hired. (I do know who the university wants as its next coach, and though he's preferable, it's highly unlikely in my opinion.)
  18. I heard this was going to happen over the weekend. The problem runs deeper than missing practices, by the way. Think of that as a euphemism similar to what was said about the mid-season suspensions. Then you'll have your answer as to why.
  19. No, she resigned. It was under Greenspan's watch, however. She was universally liked here, and she assured me that it was her decision to leave. I believe her, too. However, I got the feeling Dick Bennett didn't feel exactly the same way; but that's conjecture. Kathi's situation certainly could have some influence on Tony.
  20. Hmm...if only there was an example of a coach taking Xavier to the Elite Eight then jumping ship to a Big Ten program on probation, then playing for the National Championship three years later...yeah, must be a no-brainer. did that happen? Yes, all the way back in 2004 when Thad Matta took Xavier to the Elite Eight and promptly left for Ohio State, who was barred from the 2005 NCAA Tournament. gotcha Of course, that doesn't mean I expect Sean Miller to jump for Indiana. I expect IU's administration to royally botch this decision.

  23. By all accounts I trust, IU didn't interview or offer the job to Bennett. They simply asked if he would be interested. He said no. It's very possible they did the same with Miller and other coaches. That said, Miller's buyout could be a sticking point for IU (not that they can't afford it, but that they won't want to).
  24. I'll be skipping my afternoon class to watch the game. Unfortunately, I have to work on a presentation tonight, so I can't have too much fun. Wish I could go to all the games like Indiana basketball; oh well, I'll see a couple in person.
