  1. Well it does leave open the question of what to do when teams don't make it into field goal range. Making midfield automatic 4 down territory would be pretty arbitrary and a distortion of the game. Not that the current overtime isn't already a distortion.
  2. I think college overtime would be improved by starting it at midfield as opposed to the 25 yard line. It's less of a kicking contest, scores wouldn't be artificially inflated by lots of OTs, and it leaves open more parts of the playbook. But that loss is definitely not on the ND kicker. The Irish offense just sucked in the 2nd half. So much for "schematic advantages"
  3. That punt is the best play Texas has made all night.
  4. LOL, UW "returns" a kickoff to the 2 yard line. The catch was not muffed in anyway.
  5. What a deep ball by Harrell.
  6. Only four spots for 120 teams. Honestly, 90% of the time the #1 ranked team is not the best team in football. However, most of the time the best team in football is ranked in the top 4. Your math is fuzzy--USC is ranked #1 more than 10 percent of the time.
  7. You're right. I'm not saying UF should be in the title game. I am not saying merit and quality are the same thing. It's the same way in baseball. It doesn't stop us from saying a team with a worse win loss record in baseball is better than another one. The current system is merit based...for two teams. It should be merit based. The real problem with the system is the only two spots in the title game. It should be two more. The current system is what it is though. What really sucks is that Big Ten and Pac 10 teams don't play title games. It hurt them sometimes, it helps them sometimes. When they're undefeated, it helps them because they don't have to play a title game. When they have a loss, it hurts them because they don't have a chance to impress the voters with a big game at the end. It always causes them to have relatively weak schedules though - even in years when the Pac 10 or Big Ten are the top leagues in the country. Really, I think a +1 system is inevitable. A +1 system will inevitably lead to a team that clearly isn't on the same level as the #1 ranked team winning the national title. Then everyone will whine that this team even had a chance and how the regular season means nothing. Then we'll get to a tournament and college football won't be as popular anymore. I've never understood why a playoff renders the regular season meaningless. Most losses for most teams at most points in the season would still be fairly devastating for natonal championship hopes. Even in an 8 team field you're looking at most 2 loss teams on the outside looking in.
  8. Catch. The. Ball.
  9. UT's front four is getting to Harrell.
  10. Wow, the offensive line splits for TTU are huge.
  11. I was just trying to think of how many years its going to take to rebuild this program. 3,4,5? It depends on the hire. They really need an obsessive recruiter because Willingham has utterly failed to get good classes. But it's not like it's a bad job. The support and history is there. You're centered in a populous city in a popuous state where the other Big State U is hundreds of miles away and blocked by a huge mountain range from the coastal fertile football grounds.
  12. USC is up 42-0 over Washington with a couple minutes left in the first half. Tyrone Willingham has laid waste to a once proud program. He was such an uninspired hire to begin with and Washington needs to make a ballsy hire. Willingham should never be a head coach for big time college football ever again. He is unfathomably bad.
  13. I don't see why Cincinnatti, Seton Hall, Providence, DePaul, St. John's, USF, or Rutgers contributes much more depth than the bottom half in other conferences. Even Cuse has been fairly mediocre lately. The Big East's scheduling is so unbalanced that you're going to have several teams with great records and several teams with truly putrid records. In other leagues you get more teams clustered around the .500 mark because everyone plays almost everyone else twice.
  14. Shouldn't sample size work both ways when the Big East has 16 freakin teams? I'm not exactly impressed by a large amount of ranked teams when you dwarf every other conference in size.
  15. I suspect Ariza will take a lot of Vlad Rad's minutes if he can be even an adequate shooter. He's a real difference maker out there.
  16. Harrington would be attractive for salary reasons with that monster FA class.
  17. I don't see what Al Harrington accomplishes for this team. Even if get rid of our glut in the backcourt we create another one by adding another tweener forward to the mix. Harrington is a gunner, contributes nothing defensively, and has no real position outside of the Nellie-ball system. 5.0 3P attempts a game!
  18. He's playing for a ton of coin this season.
  19. I'm pretty surprised Mbah Moute is getting as much run as he is for the Bucks. I didn't think his skill set would translate very well to the NBA at all.
  20. None of our guards are going to get more than 30 minutes in this game... So why is Hughes going to get significant minutes again?
  21. Thabo? I know everyone's pretty down on Kirk, but didn't Thabo have a bad preseason as well?
  22. Lol at Briscoe. Danced right out of a first down.
  23. Tennessee's offense is laughably incompetent.
  24. This UT punt returner is going to muff one if he keeps catching it high on his chest.
