Somewhere, Dwight Howard is frowning. I figured somebody would bring that up. The two of them are dead even by most experts opinions. About half choose Howard and half choose Yao. I choose Yao for obvious reasons but you should look at their head-to-head stats. I don't really think it's even all that close. Yao is a better shooter. Leaps and bounds a better shooters. But, what does he do better than Howard outside of jump shots and FTs? Howard has only missed 3 total games in his 5 seasons in the league. Yao has missed 93 in 7 seasons. Howard is much better defensively and pulls down a whole lot more boards. Yao's not just a better shooter...he's a better overall offensive player. Better shooter, better post moves, better passer, etc. Howard is still pretty raw when it comes to establishing himself on the block and carrying an offense that way. In fact, I'm not sure he'll ever be a true #1 option on offense in the mold of Hakeem, Ewing, Robinson, etc. If you've got Howard, you've got to surround him with shooters because you can take him out of the game offensively otherwise. But yeah, I'd still take Howard because of his defense, youth, health, and conditioning (Yao isn't going to ever be a guy that can play 40 minutes consistently).
