  1. Collinsworth is the best color man in the NFL and no one else is even really close.
  2. Nice to see Pace and Williams get owned on back to back plays by a line that was absolutley horrific last season.
  3. I'd go insane if I had to wait another week for a game.
  4. http://deadspin.com/5345287/the-confessions-of-an-nba-scorekeeper?skyline=true&s=x This is an article about a former NBA scorekeeper for the Grizzlies who discusses how he artificially inflated stat totals (especially blocks and assists). There's also a hilarious example of how a team in the 1990s under reported stats ostensibly to decrease the market value of its own players. You'll NEVER guess what team it was! The Shareef Abdur Rahim home/road splits are just comical.
  5. Without ND's decided schematic advantage, it'll be a disaster.
  6. when can we expect the other seven 5-star QB's to transfer? After the houses close escrow.
  7. Corp seemed to have the leg up early on, did he lose ground when he got hurt? I think he's probably a bit more hurt than has been let on, yeah. Corp's been really secure with the ball in the practices and Barkley's been interception prone. My feeling is that Corp is probably still banged up (and mobility is the one area where he really shines over Barkley) and Carroll feels secure enough putting Barkley in because there's a lot of other returning starters on offense.
  8. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4426998 True freshman Matt Barkley named starter for USC. I'm pretty damn surprised by this. Carroll's always played the more experienced guy at QB.
  9. I wish the Giants had thrown some more. Couldn't really tell much about the starting secondary last night, outside of Payne breaking that one up. It's always hard to tell how the secondary does on the regular broadcast but I thought they looked decent. Manning had to check down a lot and the DBs were always right there to wrap them up quickly.
  10. DVRed the game on NFL Network. I'm excited about the LB corps despite Urlacher not wrapping up on some tackles. Pisa really flies around out there...Briggs is still awesome 8-)
  11. What do they have to do with Memphis? There's just as many examples of schools losing high profile coaches and still maintaining elite levels. There a lot of examples of [expletive] conference schools losing high profile coaches and not missing a beat? The Self to Weber transition was pretty seamless--and then Weber started getting talent commensurate with the rest of the conference.
  12. I'm still remembering training camp in 2007 when every report was glowing, Rex was amazing, the offense was adding tons of new wrinkles, etc. I'm confident in Cutler but the last thing I want is the team believing its own press clippings.
  13. Oregon actually meets expectations from time to time, though. It's Cal that always craps the bed when they're expected to do well.
  14. The eye test is enough to tell me that Peterson is significantly better than Forte and every other runningback in the league.
  15. It's not like Bartman jumped out of the stands and tripped Alou preventing him from getting into a position to make the play. I don't see Alou being unathletic as very relevant. It doesn't strain credulity to think he could've caught the ball. It is pretty funny how up in arms a lot of you are about this. Steve Bartman isn't the first Average Joe to be caught up in a momentous event and be put under the microscope for it--on ESPN, or in any other form of media--and he won't be the last. His situation has been a template for documentaries, magazine features, and books for decades. There's nothing unique about him in that regard.
  16. Dempster didn't even look at Bourne because no one could fathom why anyone would break for home on that play. Bourne's stupidity paid off. It's still on Demp but I couldn't believe he was trying for home.
  17. Can we just get a continuous shot of the blond in the front row while the Houston pitcher warms up?
  18. You don't see productivity from your 1-2 hitters everyday folks.
  19. Anyone know Fuku's availability for the rest of the night?
  20. Gameday showed balls 2 and 3 catching quite a bit of plate.
  21. It seems like the U.S. is the one country where people try to pigeonhole other countries' popular sports in. There's only so many hours in a day.
  22. I thought Milton was going to be out easily. That relay throw from Gonzalez seemed pretty lollipop. I'll take it though.
  23. This is unfortunate news for Meph. Boy, is he going to regret that in a few years--especially if he washes out in the pros. Passing up all the tail you could possibly want at a school like Florida is insanity. Although I don' really believe he's a virgin to begin with.
  24. I find the "which major is the most prestigious" argument pretty interesting. I follow the (American) PGA Tour and I would venture to guess that most American players would want to win The Masters or the US Open over the British. Do you guys think all European players want the British the most? If I were an American PGA Tour player I'd probably want to win the US Open at either Pebble or Oakmont over anything...then The Masters...then the British at St. Andrews. I'd probably pick a PGA Championship at a really famous course (Baltusrol, Merion, Riviera, etc.) over some of the lesser known British Open courses.
