  1. I hope so, but I don't see it happening. They're a pretty damn good football team. I'm kind of in the same boat. They might just rip off a 13-3 season in which case the Bears are probably in for a wild card battle. I'm hoping Childress will hold them back from making the necessary midseason adjustments. Personnel wise they could definitely have that type of year. Plus not too many outdoor games in the cold to mess with Favre. They have their own playoff misery to worry about, replete with fan neurosis and incessant media questions about when they are going to blow it. If they do get in, they might just pull a big blowup like they have at other times. Plus, Favre has really been sketchy in the playoffs. I'm talking about them having the potential to just semi run away with the division. If they're going to go 13-3 there's not much the Bears can do about it besides fight for a wild card spot. I think the Vikings MAY be that kind of team. We'll know soon enough. They look strong though.

  3. I'd rather have Vasgersian in the booth than in the studio.
  4. I remember early to mid season last year I was constantly whining about Maynard. I think it was just a bit of a slump though.
  5. Yeah...as good as Hester was...you have to think Toub had a lot to do with the 06 season. Manning led the league in yards per return last year and Knox is doing the same thing so far this season. He's definitely doing something right. The Bears have generally been excellent in all areas of special teams too including punt and kick coverage so I think he has to get a lot of credit. I've been critical of Maynard but the numbers disagree with me.
  6. Defensive rebounding was a huge problem for the Bulls last year. Gibson will probably be serviceable in that area (probably more effective on a per minute basis than TT) but Blair has a chance to be a truly dominant rebounder if he can stay healthy. Gibson's strength is shot blocking which wasn't a weakness last year with Thomas and Noah. Although Thomas selling out for every block shot compromised the defensive rebounding and interior D a ton last year. I wish he had a brain.
  7. Dave Toub is one hell of an outstanding special teams coach, no doubt.
  8. Because some OU fans think the team should basically never lose, ever. I never understood why people criticize OSU and Oklahoma or any school like that for not winning the big game. A: it's not easy to get to that point. You have to be a really, really good team to get to that point and B: It's incredibly hard to beat the number one team in the country multiple seasons. Any coach in any sport (that people care about at least) is going to face criticism for how they coach in losses. I think it's fair. Calling for their heads for those reasons are a different matter entirely.
  9. Oh, I'd love a guy like Stoops. But Stoops ain't leaving OU, ever. Kelly's Catholic, a family guy, and pretty clearly a very good football coach. He'd be perfect. There are more than a few OU fans who would probably be happy with Stoops going somewhere else. Dumb ones.
  10. Just saw the JJ game winner. Pretty cool. The team went pretty crazy for him which was nice to see. Seems to have been a nice crowd for a preseason basketball game in London, too.
  11. Unless Gibson's really bulked up in the last few months I wouldn't characterize him as a huge body. Dude's a beanpole with a nice wingspan.

  13. I've heard from ND friends that (idiot) Irish fans don't regard Kelly as enough of a name to warrant hiring. According to them it's a stratospheric hire like Shanahan or Stoops or nothing at all. I felt annoyed for my reasonable Domer friends.
  14. Brian Kelly seems to have everything you'd want. Youth, head coaching experience (D2 titles and BCS conference championships), innovative schemes, etc. I think he's definitely the top current college head coach looking to move to mega program. Chris Peterson is up there as well. I just read on wiki that Fisher is owed $5 million if he's not the head coach by 2011 though. That's pretty brutal if you don't think he's going to be your man. If that's the case then hiring a coach that's going to command a huge salary might not be in the cards (like Gruden or something) and you're probably looking at a young coordinator to step in for less money.
  15. It's getting even uglier. Bobby was offered a nice "going-away" package in the $5MM range and including staying for 1 more year (so his last game would be a home game), but Jimbo gets final say over everything including coaches (where he would remove the entire staff on the D side of the ball). The major sticking point is that Andrews wants to retire, and Bowden wants Amato as the DC - when Fisher can't stand Amato, going as far as talking Andrews into coming back this year so that Amato wouldn't be the DC. Bobby said "Nope." Now both sides are hunkering down for battle, knowing that Bobby gets a $1MM check when he leaves, and his contract runs out at the end of this year. FSU and the BoT are leaning towards letting him walk away without any second thought. The question is why are they restricting themselves to Jimbo Fisher? Maybe he could thrive without Bowden (I sort of doubt it) but if Weis survives this year, FSU is easily the best job on the market. With Meyer at Florida and Miami plus USF looking strong getting the right coach is critical. One bad hire and you're looking at potentially a decade or longer of mediocrity.
  16. That is the most underwhelming slate of games I can remember seeing--on a Bears bye week no less. Hopefully college football will rock as it normally does.
  17. Yeah, Kampmann is totally out of position.
  18. Thank god.
  19. I hate gambling. I have Minny -3.5. alksdjfalk;jdf
  20. Jared Allen is an animal.
  21. And it wasn't Kerry Collins that kept the Titans from making the Super Bowl last year. With weapons around him he's fine, but there weren't enough weapons last year. This year, the entire team is awful. We don't win 13 games last year with a more mistake prone QB, but I don't think there are a lot of QBs that would have taken us further. I think last year's team went about as far as the overall talent allowed. Sure, I doubt Brady or Manning gets much more than 13-3 out of last years Titans but if you put one of those guys on the Titans last year and you're thinking that team is a heavy favorite to at least get to the Super Bowl. Game managers are great and all but you need a QB who can carry a team at some point in the playoffs.
  22. Kerry Collins is basically the reason why no one in their right mind picked the Titans to win the Super Bowl.
  23. Clinton Hart has to be the worst safety in run support I've ever seen.
  24. Denver would be pretty damn loaded if they had Cutler combined with the defense they've shown thus far.
  25. Starters off the top of my head I would take over Orton: Manning, Brady, Brees, Roethlisberger, Warner, E. Manning, McNabb, Romo, Ryan, Rivers, Schaub, Garrard, Favre, Rodgers, Hasselbeck, and Flacco. And then you could throw in the fact that no one in their right mind would take Orton over Stafford or Sanchez as a long term solution. I guess you could say Orton is in the next group with the Shaun Hills and Matt Cassels of the world. I don't see how that puts him at "easily above average" for starting QBs.
