  1. I guess my point is that Meyer wasn't really a hotter candidate coming off Utah's undefeated season than Kelly is now. He might have been so in Domer land because he was an assistant there but not in a general sense. Kelly will be mentioned with most (all?) big time coaching openings.
  2. Why would you hold Kelly's head coaching experience at small colleges against him when he's already a proven winner at a BCS program? I know you're comparing him to Meyer but the differences really aren't that great. Sure, he coached at smaller programs, had a less gilded assistant coaching resume, and isn't quite as dominant (yet) at Cincy as Meyer was at Utah but it's not like they're worlds apart. You're not going to find many more proven college coaches looking for a step up than Brian Kelly in 2009 or Urban Meyer in 2005. The only guys that arguably beat them out are coaches who would make lateral moves from powerhouses.
  3. I don't see why you would put much weight on that. It's like worrying about Walter Payton playing at a small college after he already produced at a high level in the NFL for a couple years.
  4. You guys are so cute.
  5. The Big East is much, much lower competition than the Mountain West?
  6. What's the record for longest shootout?
  7. These are professionals?
  8. I wonder if guys like Paterno and Bowden are just afraid they'll drop dead soon after they quit coaching. Bryant died less than a month after he retired and he was 10+ years younger than Paterno and Bowden are now. That has to get in their head a bit.
  9. The guy is 80 freaking years old. What if his own accord means coaching until he's 97 years old, blind and in a wheelchair? Should they let him do that because they owe it to him? Eventually, a program needs to do what is best for itself. The program wouldn't be anything with out him. Wait him out. He's been loyal to them for 30 odd years, would it kill them now to be loyal to him for another 5? There's an argument to be made that FSU would have been a national power with or without Bowden. He just happened to be the coach who was there during the period of time when Florida (the entire state) went through a population boom. Let's not forget that if Bama decides not to hold interviews after Ray Perkins left, he's at Bama and they are having these problems. I'm pretty sure that a program like Bama wouldn't put up with this mediocrity either (and, judging by their coaching history after Stallings, they haven't). I'm glad he's gone before he died on the sidelines. I wish he would have left after 1999 or 2000, when he was on top of the world. There's an argument to be made that FSU's streak of 14 consecutive top 5 finishes (13 consecutive top 4) will never be broken. Someone else might have made FSU a power but to expect someone to have that kind of run is crazy.
  10. Do you think Derek Jeter laughs to himself when he hears athletes getting themselves into these situations partly because they got married too soon (ARod, Tiger, Kobe, etc.)? Even MJ is making up for lost time now. Jeter should be the role model: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/193260-athlete-dating-resumes-derek-jeter
  11. The Bulls have a tough road trip. It is always tough. Yes Ben's scoring is going to be hard to overcome, but I am expecting more from Derrick as soon as his ankle fully heals up. I think that Ben's lack of defense is averaged out by the better defense Salmons will play. Give this team some time and I think they will be better than last year's team. Do you really think that a team's talent or lack of talent really draws free agents? I am pretty convinced that the bigger contract offer usually wins out. All the key FAs this offseason are going to get max deals, and there will be several teams offering the same amount. So yes I do believe the teams talent is a huge factor. It's the reason LeBron won't goto NY. Why would he take less money to join a team that is less equipped to win a championship than his current team? Because one team is in Cleveland and the other is in New York.
  12. It's kind of disturbing that we can't beat the Bucks when our 4 best players all have good games. I know the Bucks are decent and we're missing Thomas and Hinrich but still.
  13. Brad Miller's a corpse. Totally worthless now. Can't rebound, can't hold the paint, can't even make a jumper any more (seriously, his spot up shooting is TOTALLY gone).
  14. How else would you know what sport you were watching?
  15. Yes, more of this Derrick.
  16. It's a sign of a good program but it does hurt after awhile. Even if the guys you're bringing in to replace the assistants who left are good there's still an adjustment period where things can get rocky. The amount of assistants Stoops has lost that have become pretty good HCs elsewhere is pretty insane: M. Stoops, Pelini, Leach, Mangino, Sumlin, Chuck Long (ok, not him).
  17. Why? Stoops has a title ring. He's been to like half the national title games since the BCS was instituted. He has coached 2 QBs, 1 of whom clearly didn't have pro-football chops, to a Heisman Trophy, almost coached AD to a 3rd, and until this injury-riddled year had done nothing but pile up 9 and 10-win seasons. And he's done all that at one of the top-tier programs. His resume is top notch but I think you have to temper it with the fact that Oklahoma didn't really deserve to be in any of the last three BCS title games Stoops took them to. On top of that he didn't win any of them and they weren't especially competitive games either. There's two other BCS losses in that time frame and he's lost 4 out of the last 5 against Texas. Kelly's cheaper, hungrier (i.e. has more to prove), he's on an upswing, and his staff isn't constantly being pillaged of its best coaches like Stoops (which is a pretty big factor in why OU hasn't been able to win a big game in years) is. Either would be a huge improvement over Weis, obviously, but I just like Kelly more.
  18. I honestly would rather have Kelly than Stoops unless you're really afraid that Kelly doesn't have the pull to recruit nationally.
  19. Kubiak was the long time OC under Shanahan in Denver (1995-2005).
  20. A Shanahan/Kubiak package would be nice.
  21. I'm kind of enjoying Aikman's open disdain for how the Bears have run themselves.
  22. The receivers suck just as much as those other units.
  23. When you have an awesome offensive line, an all pro RB and tons of weapons at WR, it's hard not to dominate unless you are Tavaras Jackson All im saying is, he has thrown only 3 INT's this year. 2 have been off tipped balls. He's never played this smart and well at the same time. Its annoying. Hopefully he blows it in the postseason. He's never had a team this good. The 96 Packers were absolutely loaded. One of the few teams in NFL history to lead the league in total offense and total defense. But yeah. This Vikings team is good. And they didn't have "tons" of weapons at WR until Favre got there. Rice was considered a bust until this season wasn't he? Harvin was obviously a great pick.
  24. By the end of the season you'll be talking about the universal conspiracy against the Bears for giving up a run of the mill 3 yard carry.
