I was just on another message board where they were advocating trading Aram for Miggy. Someone told me I was dumb when I posted that Aram was a better hitter. Send them Aram for Miggy straight up then go to Philly and tell them we'll take Bell's contract off their hands with Abreu... Pierre Walker Tejada Abreu Lee Bell Barrett Murton
-
Give them whatever they ask for except Prior and Z-ANYONE!! R.Hill+J.Williams+Pie+Cedeno for Tejada- Thats our 2 best position prospects, best pitching prospect and a young experienced arm for arguably the most productive SS in baseball-Heck, throw in Cpatt in need be-I could get really used to an infield of Lee-TWalk-Tejada-Ramirez.....really used to it
-
Wouldn't mind The Cubs getting in a 3-way with the Angels and Red Sox- Angels get-Manny+Cpatt Red Sox get-Finley+Cabrera+TWalk+Prospects(1 Angel+1Cub) Cubs get-Renteria I could deal with Renteria batting 2nd behind Pierre-We basically were offering Furcal 10M a year for 5 years-we could get Edgar for a shorter term-plus with the deductions of 2 spare parts in Cpatt(3M) and TWalk(2.5M) he only costs us 4.5M against the budget-His D ain't bad either.....

the "good times"? Oh come on, just because it ended badly doesn't mean you didn't have a good time at all. Try and tell me that wasn't one of the best summer's and falls of your life until Game 5. Best ever-I got married and spent 4 nights of my honeymoon watching the Cubbies beat the Braves and take control of the Marlins and then.....well... we all know what happened then...... -
Bruce Levine Update at 10:00
LuckyPup replied to CubsWin22's topic in MLB Draft, International Signings, Amateur Baseball
I wouldn't mind someone LIKE Kevin Brown (in his prime, without the injuries, or the 9 figure contract), but not Kevin Brown himself. Thanks, but no thanks. He'll be 41 by the time the season starts. I could see Hendry signing Esteban Loaiza if it's late Jan./early Feb., and he hasn't been signed yet. that would be such a "Cub" move- I'm sorry Hoops but so far Hendry is not getting it done for me- I like the Howry & Eyre deals but the Rusch and Perez deals coupled with no mention of interest in the BEST OF available in Giles and the lagging on the Furcal deal are making me lose faith-please tell me I shouldn't be a doubter and Hendry is just bidding his time.......please.........waiting......please........ -
From the Score (I know, I know):
LuckyPup replied to JeffH's topic in MLB Draft, International Signings, Amateur Baseball
thats probably a very good estimate- -
I have begun to think Furcal will be a cub-We have the money-position- and spot in the order he thrives in available- We do have over 30M to spend as well as contracts we can move such as Corey and Walker etc-thats over 5M right there- Replace Walker with Cedeno an dyou have themoney to sign a Howry without affecting the money available- Personlly if we sign Furcal I would rather hang onto Walker just because he is so solid at the plate. The only way I trade him is for Castillo or maybe Soriano....maybe. I for one believe that both Furcal and Giles are attainable with trades to fill out CF and the Bullpen/bench-Here's what I would like to see happen- Sign Furcal- Sign Giles- Sign Burnett- Trade Novoa+Mitre for Mota Sign Howry Trade Cpatt+J Williams+Rusch+2 rule 5 arms for Vernon Wells- Use Cedeno, Hairston, Greenburg, Blanco, FA OF with pop. Furcall-SS(8) Walker-2B(2.5) Lee-1B(8.5) Giles-RF(9.5) Ramirez-3B(10.5) Wells-CF(3.5) Barrett-C(4) Murton-LF(3k) 46.7M total Prior(3)-Z(5.5)-Maddux(9)-Wood(12)-Burnett(9)=38.5M Dempster(5)-Mota(3.3)-Williamson(2)-Howry(2.75)-Wuertz(350k)-Ohman(350k)-13.75M Bench=6M Total payroll of 105M-I'll take it

Would you trade D. Lee?
LuckyPup replied to Quakers's topic in MLB Draft, International Signings, Amateur Baseball
Yankees get: D.Lee+Torri Hunter Minny gets: R. Cano+Cpatt+Mitre Cubs get: Radke+Sheffield+Morneau -
Vance, don't the Cubs have to wait a few weeks before Hendry can begin negotiating for Giles? I thought there is a 2 week window after the WS where current teams have exclusive negotiation rights to their own FAs. :? Right. 14 days after the W.S. As soon as that window opens, though, I'd have my offer ready and pick up the phone. Would you start at 4/50? I wouldn't. I'd be willing to go there no problem, but I wouldn't start there. I would, only because it lets him know we are dead serious about signing him. I think best case scenario is Furcal and Shuerholtz strike a deal in the 14 day period-triggering a trade of Marcus Giles(5) to the Cubs for Walker(2.5)+R.Hill-Wuertz. Marcus in the fold gives us a LEGITIMATE shot at Brian Giles-Sign Giles to whatever he wants-(4/40) Trade JWilliams+Cpatt(2.5)+Mitre for Pierre(5) and Mota(3)- Re-sign Nomar(5M) to play SS- sign AJ Burnett-4/40(9,10,10,11) Go to War with that- CF-Pierre(5) 2B-M.Giles(5) 1B-Lee(9) RF-Giles(10) 3B-Aram(10) SS-Nomar(5) C-Barrett(4) LF-Murton(.3) (48.3M) Prior(4) Z(6) Maddux(9) Burnett(9) Wood(10) (38M) Mota(3)-Dempster(5)-Rusch(2.5)-Ohman(.4)-Williamson(2)-Novoa+JVB (12.9M) Hairston(2)-Blanco(1.5)-Cedeno(.3)-Greenburg(.3)-Branyon(1.5)=5.3M 104M team-and WOW-

Would you.....

Well, that is a title of a THREAD which is where you go to have DISCUSSION about a topic-thank you for intriging and enlightening jolt into the discussion- I am just like many fans out there who are begging for the Sox to sweap so we can get on with the offseason-just trying to pose questions for discussion- In the future I will outline a descriptive analysis in the thread title so you may determine your availability to interact- Prospects I don't believe are the rub of a deal like this-it is all about money and the right situation- The Sox want Manny and his contract gone, the Mets want Manny but would be fiscally responsible with both Beltran and Manny, and the Cubs need offense and heave money to absorb some contracts- -
I don't think you can ignore either side CubfaninCA. Both offense and pitching need to be significantly shored up. Need a lead-off hitter for sure, and definitely need better OPS from all 3 outfield spots (playing Murton everyday should take care of LF). And then, to your point on the rotation, it would be great to get a #2 starter - Zambrano 1, Prior 3, Maddux 4, Wood or Williams 5. There is ample money available to do it all. It's going to require some savvy trades, though, especially if Giles goes somewhere else. Hoops Hoops have you heard Giles' name at all from any sources?Do you feel like the cubs have a legit shot at him?I personally don't see him leaving So Cal but any word on him being on the rada?
-
Take on Beltrans contract from the Mets if they needed us to help facilatate a Manny deal with Boston- I know Manny says he doesn't want to go to NY but thats probably just a ploy, besides he changes his mind like the wind- So would you do a 3 way with the Mets and BoSox? Mets get Manny+Cpatt Cubs get Beltran+Looper Bo Sox get Cameron+Diaz+ R.Hill(freeing up money for Damon and perhaps AJ Burnett) If this was placed in front of Hendry should he do it and take on that contract?
-
I heard that from a source, too. It was called ESPN. In looking at this deal maybe we can include Delgado Dodgers get: Lowell(8)+Delgado(13)+Walker(2.5)Welly+Koronka Cubs get: Castillo(6)+Bradley(4)+Lowe(9)+Mota(3) Marlins get: Kent(6)+J Williams(.4)+Choi(.4)+Perez(5)+ Cpatt(2.5)+ Nolasco Marlins lose about 16M off payroll but get back 2 starters in O. Perez and jWill-filling the lose of Burnett-not to mention they get a former MVP in Kent- The Dodgers get a very potent infield and 2 young arms and only take on roughly 1M- Cubs get a starting 2B, CF, starter, and potential closer/setup in. We only take on 16M but really solidify ourselves both defensively and rotation wise-Re-sign Nomar to play SS and Go after Giles+Howry 2B-Castillo CF-Bradley 1B-Lee RF-Giles 3B-Ramirez SS-Nomar C-Barrett LF-Murton Prior-Z-Maddux-Lowe-Wood Dempster-Howry-Mota-Ohman-Wuertz-Williamson-Novoa That team I could live with-
-
Im sorry, but I do that trade in a heartbeat-Pierre is a PROVEN commodity in CF and leading off-We are not going to have the best player at EVERY position-My God you guys kill me sometimes with the overvalue placed on our prospects and I'm sorry but Patterson is DONE-If he recovers and has all-star numbers-great for him but this teams window is closing and I for one am tired of the hope of potential(albeit great potential) in Patterson figuring it out in his 6th year in the bigs? And Rich Hill, again with great potential, is not a MUST HAVE prospect in our system-we have plenty of arms that will be as good if not better than Hill- Pierre solves a couple of problems for us- He gives us a stopgap contract wise for Pie, plus like said before, Baker will bat him leadoff no matter what-no more experimental crap at the top-plus Pierre basically joined Pudge in nailing down our coffin in the playoffs a couple of years ago-he would be a great addition to our lineup-Not to mention the fact that we would only be paying about 3M for him if you take away Pattersons salary- I love Corey and Hill but we need to win NEXT YEAR or we will probably see our prize arms go and win in pinstripes while we are hopelessly putting our faith in the miracle prospect to lead us to the promised land-Patterson and hill for Pierre-Done in a second if offered-

Another opportunity for A-Rod?
LuckyPup replied to hawkeyecub's topic in MLB Draft, International Signings, Amateur Baseball
If I nabbed 2 starters(one FA another via trade), say, Burnett+Escobar I would deal Z in a heartbeat for Arod- But only if I got 2 more solid starters for the rotation-I for one don't believe Wood should be counted upon to return for the start of the season so we need another couple of solid rotation guys, and Escobar would be a good swing man for the pen as well- -
Abreu makes me drool- I don't think it is feasible- I was thinking about a possible 3 ways that would help the CUBS- here's what I was thinking: maybe: Marlins get: M.Bradley+Cpatt+J Williams+Choi Dodgers get: Delgado+Lowell+T.Walker+Pinto Cubs get: Kent+Pierre+Mota+O.Perez This one gives the Cubbies a leadoff option and CF+ Kent's bat at 2nd as well as a #5 starter and setup man for Dempster. Wonder what others would make some sense for us?+Antonio Perez

Jeff Kent may request trade.
LuckyPup replied to CubfaninCA's topic in MLB Draft, International Signings, Amateur Baseball
It would have to bring back a serious upgrade elsewhere, extremely large in fact, to justify such a series of moves. True. What if it brings Drew and Kent? ok, that made me drool a bit-I really don't think we would have the pieces to pry Drew away-but a 3 way may work-say with Florida-Dodgers have some money to spend as well as teh Cubs, plus we both have very strong farms-LA is definitely stronger but....hmmm... Dodgers get: Lowell+Walker+Delgado Cubs get: Pierre+Kent+Bradley Marlins get: Combo of hig end prospects/position players..?( CPatt+Brazoban+.... yes i realize i just qouted myself...but anyway. A lineup of : CF-Pierre SS-Nomar 1B-Lee 2b-Kent 3b-Ramirez RF-Bradley LF-Murton C-Barrett We would definitely need to sign another starter(Millwood) -

Regarding Hendry
LuckyPup replied to rsmoler's topic in MLB Draft, International Signings, Amateur Baseball
The reason I am not okay with a Furcal signing is because I know there is no possible way that would be the secondary move. That would be paraded around as the "put us over the top" move, filling leadoff and SS, and the OF would be filled by scraps. Does Preston Wilson count as a secondary move? I believe that constitutes sevendary move-puke -
This 'can't play at wrigley' is just more BS....

I'm sure the free agents are lining up to play at such a hole-thanks Dusty-you sir are a wiener head. -
Torrii Hunter anyone?
LuckyPup replied to minnesotacubsfan's topic in MLB Draft, International Signings, Amateur Baseball
Liriano :D I actually could see a Walker/Patterson for Hunter/Romero trade-and, while I would be thrilled with it, I could live with it-lets face it, Patterson will NEVER be a great player in Wrigley-his confidence is just too shot and eveytime he strikes out the fans are gonna let him have it-What if J.Jones was a part as well? I know he isn't the perfect player but still better than anything we have(except maybe Murton-but thats a big maybe). That one trade would shore up our entire OF and not be overly expensive-plus the defense would be great-Sign Furcal and trade for Soriano-that is an ok lineup-not the greatest but OK- SS-Furcal LF-Murton 1B-Lee 3b-Ramirez 2B-Soriano CF-Hunter RF-Jones C-Barrett Actually after looking at that lineup, the OBP retardation that appears would drive me to drink.scratch that idea-although i could unfortunately see Hendry assembling that crap- -
Nomar Open to a Position Change?
LuckyPup replied to HoopsCubs's topic in MLB Draft, International Signings, Amateur Baseball
The only way it would make sense to have Murton and Nomar at the corner OF spots is if we're getting better production from CF just to bring the OF to league average in production. I don't see us getting Giles. There are about 50 other teams he'd play for before the Cubs. Maybe make a trade for someone like Lew Ford or Coco Crisp to play CF? Well, guys I really think the perfect piece for our OF situation is definitely coming via trade- I know there are alot of people here who don't want Juan Pierre but he would solve alot of problems for us- He would be the perfect stopgap for PIE to give hima full year in AAA -plus give us a leadoff hitter with speed-I know alot of people proclaim him to suck but he would be a very sensible decision for the Cubs- He is not much more expensive than Corey and he will be moved this offseason because the Marlins are going to lose their butts again in revenue-With talk of moving Delgado and clearing payroll Pierre is a very logical choice to get moved plus they aren't going to re-sign Burnett so they will need pitching-we got that-3 or 4 rule 5 guys might look good to the Marlins or maybe the O's would move Mora-he's look good in our OF batting 2nd-maye both those teams would like to work a deal around Delgado/Lowell?
