  1. This one is out tomorrow(Thursday) and with Iowa being all that's left, our last one to actually be excited about. The Southern League was loaded this year though, so we had probably temper our expectations some. Guys that will be on this list include Jason Heyward, Mike Stanton, Desmond Jennings, Logan Morrison, Juan Francisco, Travis Wood, Jarrod Parker, and Jeremy Hellickson. I didn't look too hard to find those guys either, so I'm sure fairly sure I've forgotten some other big names as well. Basically, I'm only hoping to see Cashner and Jackson here at this point. And I guess it wouldn't TOTALLY shock me if Jackson wound up as an honorable mention type here honestly. I'm hoping to see Cashner in the 12-15 range and maybe Jackson in the 17-20 area. I don't think there's a shot for Colvin or anyone else to make it on this list.
  2. cashner right behind drabek.... interesting... Maybe in the top 100 we have castro vitters cashner lee and both jacksons? I deon't think we'll be THAT lucky personally. I figure Jay Jackson has the lowest chances of anyone you named. I guess we'll see when the Southern League rankings come out tomorrow though. I like Jackson alot, but it doesn't seem like he's been on the radar for alot of publications, so maybe we're all higher on him than anyone else. Which is fine, he can be a solid mid rotation guy and not be a top 100 prospect. AZ Phil mentioned he could see him in our rotation at some point next year actually. Castro and Vitters are locks. It certainly seems like Lee will make it, considering he was the top prospect of his league. Callis talked glowingly about Brett Jackson too, making it seem like he's got an excellent chance as well. And considering past comments on Cashner, you've got to figure he's got a very good chance as well. If we actually got 5 guys in there, it'd be phenomenal, if you ask me.
  3. That's cool. All 3 of Carpenter, Jackson, and Cashner would have made the top 20. We haven't had much to cheer this season, but it sure as hell is nice to see our farm system getting back on track.
  4. So, in the end, Harden's a Type B. Now, that it won't cost someone a 1st to sign him, I'd say it's almost 100% he'll get longer than a one year deal. Offering him arbitration now is less risky, we had better do it.
  5. Awesome. I'm figuring with the Southern League tomorrow, surely we will get some stuff on Cashner and Jackson either today or tomorrow.
  6. You don't want to extrapolate based on one league's top 20 list because 1) four BA writers work together to come up with the BA top 100, not just 1 writer like this list and 2) the league top 20s are based on what people saw of the prospects during their time in the league and not overall. That said, Ben Revere came in at 59 last year. Cool, thanks. For some reason, I didn't even think about the one writer versus four thing. On a side note, I'm sure there will be a Castro question or two, I wish someone would actually ask if he's a top 40-50 prospect for them this year. I doubt we'll hear anything about Vitters that we haven't heard before, but maybe something about either Jackson, Cashner, or Carpenter could get answered and give us something different on them. Maybe something on Searle as well? I wonder if he was even discussed for this list.
  7. I honestly thought it would be a foregone conclusion that we would DFA him this offseason. But, I'm not aware of ANY speculation from the beat writers that this is going to happen. If we keep him at this point, I'm not going to be surprised at all, which is just sad.
  8. Where was Revere on last year's top 100? Seeing Castro ahead of him COULD at least give us an idea of where he may rank on the top 100 possibly......
  9. So what is left now? It still hasn't gotten the bankruptcy court approval, right? Or, are we literally done now?
  10. After looking at the rest of those guys though, I agree that BA likely will put Castro ahead of all the guys you just mentioned.
  11. By the way, Mike Stanton had 180 at bats, so I figure he's the number 1 in this league.
  12. I'm hoping we aren't disappointed with where they have Castro. I haven't really looked at the league as a whole, so I don't know who he's up against. I figure 15 is about right for Vitters, considering his struggles there. I hold out a LITTLE hope that Searle makes it near the bottom, but I think you're right and he'll miss out.
  13. Dempster had a pretty damn solid season. Lilly had a damn good season and Z was about what you'd expect him to be. You could say we have 3 solid number 2 starters basically, going into next year, with Wells being a true wildcard. And Marshall or Gorzellany can be a decent enough number 5. I still wish we had an ace though.
  14. If it's 3-6, I GUESS I could be persuaded to be allright with it. But, I'm sure Hendry will cave in and do 3-10 or 3-12, which would make this truly stupid. I'm trying to find something decent about this possible move, but having Gorzelanny, Marshall, AND Gaub in tow and for a hell of alot less money, simply makes it very hard. We probably don't have tons of flexibility money-wise as it is and this is just another misappropriation of funds from Hendry.
  15. To me, this is the most important storyline of the day.
  16. I wonder what we had to give Struck and McNutt to get them to sign? I'm thinking that they may have gotten a fairly sizable overslot, along with Burruel.
  17. Seriously, is it wrong to be pulling for a protected pick at this point?
  18. I doubt it. Not impossible, but I doubt it. I am almost certain that there are segments of BA still very high on Vitters, and I'm pretty sure it was Callis who said he thought Vitters should go 1 (in the MWL lists) recently. Also, keep in mind that, IIRC, their team lists are influenced by organizational sources, and I think the Cubs are still very high on Vitters internally (at least, that'd be my guess). If they DID go that way, I think I'd look at it as a positive for our system, instead of as a negative on Vitters. He makes great contact, he just needs to learn a little patience. His wrist injuries are the biggest negative I can see at this point on him personally, along with his fielding at 3rd. Hopefully, he has a 1st half in Daytona much like the one he had in Peoria this past year. If he does and gets moved up to Tennessee, people will be back on his bandwagon. I think that comment may be just to prepare Cub fans that he WILL NOT be our top prospect this year. Castro, Vitters, B Jackson, Lee, and Cashner in that order possibly? If the Cashner question was late July or so when it was answered, Jackson, Lee, and Castro have made lots of noise since then and Cashner declined a bit actually.
  19. Castro between Daytona and Tennessee ,299/.342/.392 with 23 doubles, 6 triples, 3 homers, 49 RBI and 28/39 SB with a birthday of 3/24/90 Gordon at Great Lakes .301/.362/.394 with 17 doubles, 12 triples, 3 homers, 35 RBI, and 73/98 SB with a birthday of 4/22/88 Castro's season was MUCH MORE impressive.
  20. The only "upset" I could POSSIBLY see is Jay Jackson making it over Cashner. Very doubtful, but if they are thinking of Cashner as an 8th inning type, I guess I could see it. In late July or early August, when asked who the Cubs #2 prospect was behind Vitters, Jim Callis responded Andrew Cashner. Also, it seems like most of the BA guys are not as enamored with Jay Jackson as a lot of us are. Yeah, I forgot about that actually. But, I'll be beyond shocked if Cashner is 2 for us at this point.
  21. The only "upset" I could POSSIBLY see is Jay Jackson making it over Cashner. Very doubtful, but if they are thinking of Cashner as an 8th inning type, I guess I could see it.
  22. Well, the cool thing is we've gotten a good amount of Cubs questions answered so far. It'd be nice to have some comments from Callis on Carpenter and Flaherty, maybe even Huseby or Ridling....... :D
  23. A .291/.359/.402 line isn't hitting left handers? What? Pretty disappointing to see Callis swing and miss on that. My guess is they looked at it as his 3rd year and did little research on him.
  24. Jackson over Vitters would be perplexing, to put it mildly. WOW ... Wow ... seriously ... wow ... 3rd? OK.......I'll up the WOWS even more. WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW I mean damn......But, BA loves tools and Jackson certainly has them. I guess that's why they are THIS high on him?
  25. Yeah, I'll be disappointed if Castro isn't in the top 60 honestly. I agree that Lee's chances look alot better now than they did a month ago. He most likely IS going to be listed as our 3rd best prospect by them. I won't be shocked if Cashner doesn't make it and it wouldn't shock me if B Jackson did either. But, the more I think on it, I could see Jay Jackson missing out too, leaving us with a bare minimum of 2 and most likely 3 or 4 tops. I will be disappointed if we don't move as a whole system up to the 15ish area though. Edit: This was made before I saw what Callis said about Brett Jackson. I'm guessing he's a lock for the top 100 at this point.
