  1. Sure, maybe for like a year at $800,000. In this market, that's likely to be about what he gets.
  2. I don't see how that could be a bad thing. Hendry's already telegraphed that he wants Bradley gone at any cost. I don't also want him jumping at the first offer he gets. My reasoning for why I think it's a bad thing is this: We wait it out and then everyone has already filled their holes through free agency or with other trades. And that may not be a horrible thing if I thought Hendry would then try to make it work with Bradley on the team. But, I see the opposite and Hendry desperately paying all or most of his deal at that point(and Ricketts caving in and letting Hendry hang himself in the process) while not doing much of anything else at all this offseason.
  3. If this thing doesn't happen before FA starts, I could see this dragging on all winter, just like Sosa did.......
  4. 2 years and 18 mill. Plus a third year option at 9 mill and a million dollar buyout.
  5. I'd be OK with Hermida as a starter for us if we also wound up with Hudson. A guy with upside for the middle of the order who may be able to find his stroke with Jaramillo and a very solid second baseman who will be on a short term deal. Not sexy, but may be about as good as we can hope for, given our lack of funds available right now.
  6. I'm not sure there's a single bit of good news in that summary. Not a Hudson fan? I kind of agree with the rest, just unsure of extensions with Lee and Lilly. Age-wise, it could be a mistake, but not sure what we could get to replace them either and until we see what they'd accept, I figure it's a moot point anyway......
  7. I'd say that seeing how much progress Castro has made in one season has been the biggest bright spot for the Cubs in 2009. It's also awesome to see the hype coming all at once, while we've been seeing it develop all year.
  8. I just read a Levine chat transcript that had tons of stuff in it. Says that Burrell for Bradley swap is probably the Cubs best option and then they can spin him back off to an AL team and get the guy they want for their OF that way. Could be an internal fix if they go after Figgins. They have discussed Ankiel. They are discussing Cabrera and Hudson as well. Unsure as to whether they should keep Reed or not. Will probably offer extensions to DLee and Lilly at some point. Lots of info really....... I'm all for adding Hudson on a one or two year deal. Have nothing whatsoever for Ankiel though. I love Lilly and DLee but don't know for sure I'd want to offer either a longterm extension.
  9. If they dangle Vazquez out there, they'll be able to do better than Bradley, even if Bradley had zero baggage coming with him.
  10. I'm perfectly fine with Fuld on our major league roster next year. Not as a starter obviously, but he'll give us some speed(which we seem to think we need), solid defense, and he'll get on base at a decent rate. He's a better value than bringing back Reed Johnson, given our payroll limitations right now.
  11. So, after reading through the comments from the League top 20's, what are we thinking for the top 10 list from BA? I figure we'll get the same top 7 we have all basically mentioned, but about the only thing I'm comfortable with at this point is putting Castro at 1 and Carpenter at 7. With Vitters, Cashner, Lee and Jay and Brett Jackson in some order from 2-6. My guess is Vitters at 2, B Jackson at 3, with Lee, Jay Jackson and Cashner at 4-5-6. Not how I'd rank them, but I can see BA doing it this way....... The real question for us is who is 8,9, and 10? To me, it looks like Archer is going to be in at 8, at least based on the league top 20's. I'm figuring that 9 and 10 will come from Burke, Flaherty, LeMahieu, Colvin, Rhee or Watkins......I'll go with Burke and Rhee as my guesses from them. What do you guys see at this point?
  12. I could see us going after Rajai Davis. It'll be his first year of arbitration anyway. Of course, going after a leadoff hitter that plays somewhere in the OF would mean we'd be going after a power hitter at 2B, I guess? Because it looks like a middle of the order hitter and a speedy leadoff type appear to be our offseason goals.
  13. AZ Phil said earlier today that he fully expects Castillo, Parker, and Gaub to all be added to the 40 man this offseason. He said that if Dolis and Camp are not added, they could definitely be picked in the Rule 5 draft.
  14. His scheduled start is Thursday, not today according to today's AFL Game Notes. http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/?p=6889 Well, BA says Cashner is unavailable to participate in the Rising Stars game. He better not be hurt. Hopefully it's because he's scheduled to pitch Thursday, which would make him unavailable for Sunday anyway......
  15. I really don't know what else you could ask for from a 19 year old SS. I wouldn't pay much attention to KG hating on Cubs prospects. When he has something nice to say about our system, that'll be news. Isn't Goldstein a big Vitters fan? At least I thought he was for some reason.......Maybe even called him a top 20 or 30 prospect earlier in the year. I could be wrong though.
  16. With the Cubs seemingly wanting to "challenge" younger players at this point, it's what made me think about it......I'm also fairly sure AZ Phil mentioned Vitters as someone who could start at either place next year. I tend to agree that he's not ready, but it's not going to shock me if he's rushed either.
  17. A guy at TCR just mentioned Cashner was scratched today and is listed as unable to compete in the prospect game on Sunday as well. Any word on if he's hurt or if the Cubs may be shutting him down a little early possibly due to the amount of innings he threw this year?
  18. A triple and a homer is nice says Goldstein, but where is the double and single he needs with it? :D On a side note(and it's actually very cool in a way that it is just that) but Vitters has hit damn well in his own right this fall. I'm starting to wonder if we see him start at Tennessee instead of repeating Daytona.
  19. But, what if it was the first pitch in the at bat? No patience at all....... Seriously, is it ridiculous to think he'll be our major league SS by July?
  20. I really don't know what else you could ask for from a 19 year old SS.
  21. So, according to Levine via MLBTR, we're discussing a 2 year extnesion worth 6.5-7.5 mill WITH incentives. And Grabow wants a 3rd year vesting option as well. Nothing like having a very limited budget to begin with and blowing it on an average pitcher that we don't even need. :banghead:
  22. Looks like a very solid outing from Shark. I'm sure that they will give him every chance to start next year. So, it's probably make or break time for him. I don't see him as the answer myself and expect Jay Jackson to be in our big league rotation by August, assuming we don't add a starter over the offseason.
  23. I don't blame them for not making any splashes this offseason.(assuming that winds up being the case) It looks to me anyway, that they are basically giving Hendry this upcoming year to make things right and h could be gone right after it's over. And if they're not going to give him much cash to work with, it's kind of letting him hang himself slowly. Short of a playoff spot next year, I think this is almost definitely Hendry's last hurrah. And then, we will start fresh with a new GM, new manager, and probably a head of baseball operations as well. There is nothing wrong with the amount of money we've had at our disposal recently, it's just the way we've spent it and Ricketts has basically already said that. Which seems like a vailed shot towards Hendry, if you ask me.
  24. I would much rather spend the amount of money it likely will take to sign him on a bunch of other high ceiling prospects personally. If Ricketts truly wants to revamp our system(which is already making tremendous strides) spending bigtime money on one guy doesn't make as much sense as spreading it out for a bunch of players instead. Plus, with our payroll situation right now, spending a bunch on a very risky player, isn't a very good allocation of funds as it is. Any money spent this offseason should go towards someone who we know what we are getting from them.
  25. I like what I've heard today. I wouldn't want them to jump in and "Steinbrenner" the free agency class this year. A slight increase won't change our team up much from this past year, in all likelihood, but with health and a return to form for a few guys, we should be in the hunt next year for a playoff spot. I love the longterm view of building from within. I'd love to see us spending more on the draft and more in the Dominican as well, along with keeping up what we're doing in the Pac Rim. And that definitely sounds plausible from his comments. Keeping Hendry and Lou around doesn't bother me. I also like the fact that it sounds like Hendry needs to produce this year or he could be gone soon after. Lou's probably gone anyway after 2010 as it is. Putting all the money back into the team and the facilities is probably the single best thing we could have heard today, especially from a longterm viewpoint. Of course, they have to follow through on what was said, but I certainly like what I've heard so far.
