  1. I think that it's taken a very long time for people to realize that given his resources, our success should be quite a bit more than what we've gotten from him.
  2. No idea if Reynolds can play RF or not, but I'm afraid we're looking solidly at Fukudome getting dealt anyway, whether it makes sense or not to deal him.
  3. I think it was Levine who said a few days ago that Boston would/will have lots of interest in Aramis this offseason.
  4. I'd be a fan of Reynolds/Dunn in the middle of the order next year. I'm not sure how it'd work out, but at the very least, it'd be interesting. I'm not so sure Arizona would let Reynolds go though without getting a solid return.
  5. The writeup on McNutt sounds very promising, Lee's was just kind of averagish, if you ask me. Lee seems to me like a guy who'll eventually be our leadoff hitter though. Just gotta wonder if it's jumping the gun to say he's going to push Castro off SS. If not, maybe we see Lee move to CF possibly?(B Jax to RF) Another thing we have to wonder about is this: Maybe the reason the Cubs haven't appeared all that eager to put Cashner in the major league rotation is because Archer and McNutt are pretty close themselves? Do they think MORE of McNutt and Archer than they do Cashner as far as being a starter goes? This league was loaded, at any rate, so I'll be very interested to see what Callis had to say about any of our other guys.......
  6. I do think we've slept at least a bit on Cerda as a prospect. Personally, I'll have him higher than I will Watkins on the final top 30(or 50) list. That said, I'm not sure EITHER of them make the top 30. We're starting to get some serious depth to our system now, maybe not alot of high-end stars, but definitely tons of guys that appear to have major league potential.
  7. Chris Archer=Nugget
  8. Fairly surprised Lee was ranked this low, not because of performance, but because I thought BA loved him.......McNutt at 7 is very solid. Did he pitch enough to be ranked at Daytona as well?
  9. McNutt is 7th and Lee is 13th on the list. 1 Mike Trout 2 Shelby Miller 3 Will Myers 4 Jacob Turner 5 Aaron Hicks 6 Nick Franklin 7 Trey McNutt 8 Jake Odorizzi 9 Matt Davidson 10 Tyler Skaggs 11 Allen Webster 12 Jean Segura 13 Hak Ju Lee 14 Fabio Martinez 15 Rubby de la Rosa 16 Alex Colome 17 Chris Owings 18 Jerry Sands 19 Matt Lollis 20 Chad Jenkins
  10. With one series to go, there are 7 teams with worse records than the Cubs and Arizona will make 8, since they automatically get the 7th pick next year. That said, if we sweep the Astros, we'll finish with a better record than them, which I think would drop us 2 spots and not just 1. Because the Pads will automatically have the 10th pick, due to Whitson not signing. Bottom line is don't sweep the Astros to end the season and lose us 2 more spots in the draft.
  11. AZPhil mentioned in one of his posts that Cabrera is the most likely of anyone to pull a "Dolis" from last year and impress enough over the winter that they don't wind up having much choice and HAVE to protect him.
  12. You forgot the best part. Yay. Amaya and Contreras are the 2 Dominican League players I still want to hear a snippet about from Phil at this point. We've at least gotten a tad of info on Hernandez, Zapata, and Arcila. I didn't personally have much interest in Santana, Paulino, or Peralta.
  13. While we definitely overpaid quite a bit to get Soriano, he's a useful player for us, at least for another 2 years or so probably..... One of the negatives I always remembered hearing about him was that he never hits GOOD pitching, beating up on bad team's pitching staffs or good teams 4 and 5 guys, then when the postseason comes, since those teams typically have good staffs, he'd struggle usually. I never looked it up and honestly wouldn't even know WHAT to look up here, but I kind of always wondered if this was true or not anyway...... On the other hand, it also kind of seems like he has two bigtime hot streaks over the course of the season and it just doesn't matter who's pitching when he's in one of them, he crushes everything for a short period of time......
  14. Nate, on a side note, do you know the extent of Antigua and Jung's injuries that shut them down for the last few weeks of the season?
  15. I would like to think McNutt and Lee are both top 10 in the rankings, but who knows? I do think that they will both be top 100 guys overall though. I was kind of thinking Ha had a shot at making the list honestly, but maybe his walk rate was just too much to overcome?
  16. I'm sure this has been discussed here somewhere, but I can't find it anywhere.......How many games can a manager win or lose you over the course of the season? Isn't it only like 2 or 3 for the most part? I'm asking because this would almost have to be one of the anomalys to that theory, because I truly think if Lou were still here, we'd probably be pushing the envelope on 100 losses....... That said, I certainly don't think we'd have been anything more than a 75-80ish win team if Quade had been here all year either. I just think Lou "cubby occurenced" himself into losing the clubhouse early. As far as giving Quade the job next year, I'm all for it. Especially if it would mean we'd take those savings and actually spend them on the farm system, although I'm not about to hold my breath on that one.
  17. Kind of surprised Alcantara didn't get a mention when talking about the Cubs possibilities.
  18. I wouldn't be surprised if Kurcz was left off partly because of his rather smallish stature of 6'0, 175 pounds. He was one of the more dominant pitchers of the league.
  19. And I couldn't have been more wrong as Boise was SHUT OUT. Only team in the league not to be represented in the top 20.
  20. While I think Z has moderately decent trade value right now(no, I don't think we'd get someone to pay his entire salary, but I do think we'd get a fairly decent return at this point) I don't think he'd waive his NTC and I also don't think Hendry has any intention of moving him this offseason. If we're going to have any shot ay competing for a playoff spot, he's not really replaceable right now, with what's available this offseason. Because I don't see any chance whatsoever we will go after Cliff Lee and I think KC will wait and try to build up trade value in Greinke(who's iffy, in the Chicago media market to me anyway) before they deal him.
  21. I'm hopeful to see Kirk, Alcantara, and Kurcz on the NWL list later today. I don't think Szczur had enough at bats to qualify or I'd think he'd make it too. I guess Greathouse would have a chance too, now that I think about it. I keep getting this league and MWL confused, but the NWL only has 8 teams in it, while the MWL has 14. So, if we're going to put lots of guys on a list, my guess is it's this one.
  22. Some more interesting notes from AZPhil in the talkback portion of his latest update. Junior Lake probably wasn't invited to instructs simply because he doesn't take instruction well. Obviously, it's Phil's take on things, but it kind of makes sense. Marco Hernandez has slightly above average speed, adequate range, decent arm and is a slap hitter for the most part. He mentions Alcantara has a plus arm, plus range and has some pop, so he's the better prospect between the two. Arcila has below average speed and a below average arm. He has a line drive stroke with solid plate discipline for his age. He'll probably wind up in LF or at 1B, assuming he starts to hit for some power. Since he's only 17, he definitely has time to develop.
  23. The Bears outgained the Lions by 295 yards in week 1. They moved the ball at will and held Detroit down all day as well. They committed 4 turnovers though(3 in the red zone) which kept the game close. So while the Lions got screwed on the Johnson play, the game never should have been that close to begin with.
  24. I took it that was Phil's opinion of Rhee at minor league camp back in March. I hope that he comes back and can throw that pitch this year. Maybe he didn't think his arm could take it this past season?
  25. I wonder if Kim is polished enough to start next season out at Peoria? I guess it's possible anyway. I also wonder if Rhee will EVER throw that pitch again? I was pretty disappointed when I read Phil's comments on him, because he appears to be "just a guy" without that pitch......I was going to have him down pretty low on my end of the season top 30 list anyway, but hearing this may actually allow him to fall off completely.
