  1. I'm pretty sure Cashman was the highest paid GM at 2 mill per year before this. He may get a nice raise himself, but my guess is Theo will still be the highest paid. And I agree totally that his job title needs to read Savior and Messiah.
  2. My honest guess is Buster Olney hasn't heard of a single Cubs prospect other than Brett Jackson, hence why he was mentioned. I'll be very surprised if the final deal includes anyone better than Chris Carpenter, with some cash thrown in as well.
  3. It's actually a brilliant plan by Ricketts on a monetary level. Sellouts will ensue, with or without adding any big name players. Saves a ton of cash in one way and still probably makes the same as if he signed a Pujols. And I'm not even complaining because if Theo is hired, I'm confident in however he's going to want to construct the roster and he wouldn't sign on without at least having the ability to make a splash if he really thinks it's best.
  4. A GM has more influence on wins and losses than a manager does. I'll take Ryno in a heartbeat, if it brings us Theo.
  5. Please just happen. I want a press conference tomorrow on this.
  6. To me, this is much more important than even going after a Pujols, Fielder, or CJ Wilson. God, please let this happen.
  7. If we're giving up prospects and they're not from this past draft since they can't be dealt yet, I'm OK with anyone not named Brett Jackson. McNutt, or Szczur. OK, I don't want to see Golden, Candelario, and a few other very low minors guys dealt either. But, my guess is it'll be guys like Carpenter,Dolis, Castillo, Flaherty, LeMahieu types that wind up as compensation. Or a wad of cash.
  8. Unreal. Trying to temper my excitement as well, especially with what happened with Beane and Boston years ago. But, hard not to get excited. Ricketts has definitely made me a believer.
  9. I hope that whatever our infrasructure is organizationally speaking, it's not so bad that it keeps Theo from accepting the gig. Because evidently, we really need major changes in this area and getting him over some of the other candidates would probably help bigtime in this area.
  10. I'm assuming there is a good bit of rust contributing to Maples very low velo at this point?
  11. AZPhil had made mention previously that he expected the payroll to drop somewhat as well, once some of these contracts fell off. To be honest, I don't even think it's a big deal personally. Especially since Ricketts has already proven he's going to spend bigtime on player development. If the major league payroll stabilizes in the 110 to 120 range, I'm OK with that. Because we should start to see a much better pipeline of youngsters coming through than we ever had in the past. Of course, that means I expecr basically the same type spending on the draft and international free agency as we did this past year, but I think we will do this at this point. Personally, I want to see us develop pitching and if we have to spend big money through FA, I want it to be on hitting, since it's usually a little better longterm investment.
  12. I took the Shaer thing off of PSD. LAura, thanks for posting the actual interview. To clarify, he did say 100 mill plus, not necessarily 100 as a cap.
  13. Who is Tom Shaer? Evidently he's a Chicago media guy who was on NESN this morning. He said Theo could get a 5 year deal for 3 per from Ricketts. Said the organizational infrastructure needs to be redone, as Boston's is much better and deeper, something Theo is used to. Said Ricketts is very far into his search, including his B level candidates. Also dropped a bombshell saying expected payroll to always remain around 100 million. Anyone know who this guy is?
  14. I think it's at least as likely that Starlin is a 5 WAR player next year as he is to not improve at all over his 2011.
  15. I could see a scenario unfold where Theo agrees, but the cpompensation part drags on for a few days possibly. That said, even in that case, both clubs have incentive to make it work quickly, since both teams offseason plans would basically be on hold until this is figured out. Hopefully tomorrow gives us something good to talk about.
  16. According to a guy on PSD, Olney was on Mike and MIke this morning and said that Boston is NOT standing in the way, Cubs are NOT balking at demands and the thing holding it up is the offer. I hadn't seen or heard this all day, if it did happen. At any rate, today was a very slow news day on this front, so maybe this is something at least.
  17. I really want to get Theo. Mainly because I could see him getting a little more flexibility with things than if we wind up with Hahn, Cherington, or Copolella. That said, I'm very confident we're making a good hire and heading in the right direction.
  18. Even my offer probably isn't nearly enough the more I think about it. Especially with what we gave up for Garza. Davis alone could take McNutt and Viiters plus a Clevenger type guy. I wasn't aware Upton as valuable as he is honestly. My guess is it's going to take a Brett Jackson type guy to get him, which we won't do, but someone else may.
  19. I think Zunino is the only hitter I want and I doubt he's there, barring a bad season or injury, based on him being a catcher. I hope we have Gausman or Appel fall to us or maybe whichever high school arm looks the best at that point. But short of Zunino falling, I want a future ace type.

  21. Pretty sure I read the same thing about Votto hating all things Cub related.....Still, even if that wasn't the case, I'm not trading Castro for him. As great as Votto is, it's easier to find someone who'll get us close to his production than what it will take to find a SS who'll be able to come close to Castro at an elite position will be doing over the next few seasons in all likelihood.
  22. McNutt, Vitters and Barney is probably more like a real offer.
  23. It's pretty safe to say that if we don't hear something by sundown today, this is going to drag into Sunday at the very least, correct?
  24. So, I wonder what the chances are we hear actual news today?
  25. Maybe I'm just being optimistic, but I think they just haven't agreed on compensation yet.
