  1. I think we already have the jump on everyone. Our entire crew has met with him(minus Ricketts) and we have more of a presence down there than anyone else right now as well. This is all well and good and may get him more comfortable with us than any other team. That said, all it MAY be worth is a chance to match someone else's offer, if we're in the same ballpark. The bottom line is this will be a monetary decision, along with him finding the city to his liking. But, by being so proactive with him, any tiebreakers will probably fall in our favor.
  2. Upper 80's to low 90's FB, decent curve, throws a slider and change as well. Advanced control. Throws across his body, some teams see this as deceptive and will help in future. Some projection left on his frame. Teams have varying opinions about his upside.
  3. Like one of the Tampa writers mentioned a few days ago, I could see a Soto for Niemann or Davis trade possibly(unsure whether I like Niemann, don't like Davis) but only if Garza is dealt off before the season as well. But yeah, a deadline deal, hopefully after Soto's having a solid season, could possibly net us a top 100ish type guy, I would think.
  4. I'll take that a step further and say if Castillo or Clevenger have a really solid spring, I can see Soto being dealt before the season starts, if someone(Tampa) gives us a solid enough return.
  5. Worst case is it drops a few spots. 56th or so is worst case scenario for Pena's pick.
  6. I don't think we'd lose the case and his salary would be lower, making it easier for us to deal him, but I kind of hope they just meet in the middle.
  7. He's back in the draft for 2012, came out a few weeks ago. Considered a 2nd or 3rd rounder.
  8. Before long, Jim will be eating his Snickers bars with a fork.
  9. In his chat, Levine predicted 40 doubles, 20 homers, and 7-10 triples from Starlin this season.
  10. Rosenthal just mentioned we were in on Qualls umtil he signed with the Phils, so we probably do have an interest in Coffey.
  11. Good for him.
  12. I was looking up the Bulls cap commitments just now on HoopsHype and I thought we had team options on Brewer and Korver next year? Is that not the case?
  13. I think the only reason DeRosa was traded was because we had to cut payroll in order to sign Bradley. While we got good talent out of it, if not for the need to dump payroll, I seriously doubt Hendry would have dealt him.
  14. Heyman has a blurb on remaining FA and mentions us and the A's are interested in him. Solid reliever, I'd be OK with him on a one year deal. Probably a guy we trade midseason, even if we didn't get a ton in return.
  15. He's waiting for a visiting visa before he can come to the US. I would think Miami IS his first stop, it's the closest to him.
  16. I think Prokorov really underestimated how hard it is to build a championship team. Even with them moving to Brooklyn, once he missed out on last year's FA class, I think Williams was his last shot. Losing Lopez at this point kills them and I think he's probably already lost interest in the NBA personally. With the President thing and his lack of early success, I could see him selling the team within a few years, if not sooner. But, I bet he trades Williams and tries to salvage something anyway.
  17. If Dwight makes it to FA, he's a Mav or Celtic. With the way their season's going though, I think he's dealt. If the All Star game wasn't down there, I'd say he'd be dealt before then even. In the end, I'll be shocked if he isn't a Laker.
  18. You may be right. I was thinking Peace and Blake was all they definitely had under contract next year. Not sure if those others have options or guaranteed deals.
  19. I'm not completely sure how Larry Bird Rights work, but for the Lakers to sign Howard, I believe all they need to do is find a way to trade Gasol for Deron Williams, who's a FA at the end of the year. Don't pick up Bynum's option, let other money fall off the books, like Barnes and Walton, sign Dwight, then resign Williams after Howard is on the team.
  20. I just think that Lebron guarding Rose at the end of games presents us with a huge problem that may not be fixable with this current group.(Rip getting and staying healthy could prove me wrong) Couple that with when they figure out Wade is their closer and Lebron isn't, they'll be better equipped as well. It seems they're hellbent on proving Lebron is an end of the game guy, but Wade is so much better, it's not even funny. i think you're buying wayyy too much into the "lebron's defense shuts down rose!" stuff. that's really not an issue. Could be. I hope you're right for sure.

  22. Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather have Dwight than Gasol, but as Theo said, I don't see it happening. In fact, I agree with him that Bynum trumps anything we can offer. That said, I don't see Orlando "just" receiving Bynum from them and if they move Gasol, it's too much to give up and the Lakers are probably a worse team after making that deal. Deng fits them as well as he fits us, which is why I wondered about a deal like I proposed. Not to mention, I really see Dwight getting dealt before Noah even CAN be traded.
  23. I'm not underrating Deng at all. But I'd much rather have Gasol as a legit 2nd option and a 3 we trade for(assuming it's possible obviously) than our current core. I just don't see this group being able to get past Miami.
  24. If not, we'd be in the range where we could trade up to get him fairly easily. That said, I don't like that Emery quote about adding to our strengths thru FA at all. Cutler needs immediate help and WR help is available thru FA moreso than in the draft, certainly in impact guys right off the bat.
  25. David, you don't think Gasol's a bigtime addition for us?
