  1. I could see a team thinking he's Juan Pierre lite possibly. Maybe giving up a top 20 prospect for the speed and team control. After the first 4, I tjink it's really jumbled.
  2. To me, ranking our guys that we may actually trade, I'd rank them like this now, as far as getting the most in return goes: Garza, LaHair, Dempster, Barney, Russell, Campana, DeJesus, Maholm, Soriano, Camp, Soto, Reed Johnson, Marmol, and Baker.
  3. About the only major league piece I could see a team giving up for him is maybe a younger set up type guy. Not sure how many teams that are contending would view Barney as an upgrade from their 2B situation, other than Detroit. Plus, you've got Scutaro on the block, who's probably as or more appealing, because it's the last year of his deal and will cost less, and possibly even Jose Altuve, if the Astros could get a big ransom(doubtful, I think) for him. But, unless we received a very nice bullpen arm who's under control for a while or a borderline top 10 prospect from a system, then there's no reason for us to trade him, in my mind.
  4. I find it really hard to believe he can skip through this many month long process in this length of time. Mainly, because if he were that far along, a guy with his credentials, would have had teams and the media paying tons of attention to it. If he misses the deadline, his best scenario is to wait until he's 23 and sign with someone at that point. He'd be a regular FA, instead of being capped by the new IFA rules and he'd probably make what Cespedes or Soler is making, maybe more, instead of the max of 2.9 mill and hoping a team gives up their ability to sign high priced guys next year, by going over and paying the big penalty.
  5. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120619&content_id=33556394&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb I'm putting this here instead of in our 2012 IFA thread, because he's evidently as good or better than Soler. And evidently, has a possibility somehow of being able to be signed before July 2nd. Another OFer. This could be a very good turn of events for us hopefully. I'd love to get another bigtime prospect somehow.
  6. I asked Dillon Maples when he'll get to pitch his first game on Twitter yesterday and he responded with " sometime in July". Makes me wonder if he's even throwing regularly yet.
  7. What was Chris Reed put on the DL for and what date can last year's draft picks be dealt?
  8. And great. Dempster to the [expletive] DL with lat tightness.
  9. In Turner's defense, he's been extremely young for his leagues. But, your point remains true. I see him as a 3/4 most likely, at this point. And he's regressed this year, which is not what I'm looking for as a headlining trade piece for Garza.
  10. Detroit is really going to have to cave in, to give up both Turner and Castellanos. Honestly, the more I think about it, it's just too much to give up for Garza. 3 years ago, when we traded for him and got much better salaries out of the deal? Things have changed. Now, a team is only getting a year and half. He's making more money too. If we can get a top 40ish guy and a top 100 guy, I'll be happy, assuming we even decide to trade him, which I still have my doubts on. That said, I don't particularly view Turner as highly as I did back in the offseason. Maybe that'd help in making a deal with him involved, but again, I'd rather trade Garza to Boston, Toronto(if they stay in it), Braves, or Dodgers. Assuming any of those teams don't get Dempster.
  11. Quakers, anything stand out on Candelario in game 2 or 3? Or did you hear scouts making any interesting observations?
  12. The Cubs took a scout off his normal routine to see garrett Gould's start at Rancho last week, according to some dude on Twitter. Could have been looking at McGough and Eadington as well, as far as pen arms go. Might have been there for Lee's start as well.
  13. I think it's going to go on a bit longer. Unless Dempster is going to the Red Sox or something, the meticulous nature of the new regime means it's going to take some time for them to decide what package they like. As fans, we look at the other team's top prospects, pick out the guys who are at positions we need and don't seem like too much to ask for, and call it a trade. I'm imagining the new front office treating this trade deadline like a second draft. Weeks of scouting, video breakdowns, discussion, and asking anyone and everyone who knows these kids about their character and work ethic. While I agree that's how I suspect they operate, my hope is it's been going on for a while already, when it comes to teams with interest in Dempster. If there's more than one team with an offer on the table right now, I don't want anything to screw it up. The longer this goes on, I just think the less we wind up with.
  14. I really don't see this going on much longer. I really think this could get done today even, because every start he makes for us going forward is added risk. Injury, poor performance, possible teams looking at him deciding they need something else, other pitchers hitting the market......Whatever we get, I'm sure pitching is the focus, but I can't help but think other teams are looking at his numbers and seeing that he's surely going to have a dropoff from this point forward. maybe even a sizable one.
  15. davell: a little birdie told me at least one of your guesses is already done... Awesome, he definitely deserves it. Unless SSR is right and you know Struck is going to AAA. :D
  16. Cecil pitched today for Toronto. Aaron Laffey may be put in the rotation as well. Romero and Alvarez is all they've got standing. Adding Guthrie is a bandaid move for them, but they've got to make a move for something. He makes sense as a guy who's had success in the AL East on some level and if they fall out of it, they wouldn't be giving up much.
  17. Blue Jays are talking to the Rockies about Guthrie. Makes sense, with them being so injured now. Wouldn't cost much either, just a stopgap until they either get healthy or fall out of it. Probably takes them out on Dempster, but if they stay in the race, I guess Garza becomes a target for them by the deadline.
  18. With Rendon's injury issues, I doubt he's a guy we'd look at. For Dempster? Sure. But he's a guy they want to build around anyway, if possible.
  19. The Dodgers are a much better fit for Dempster and Garza is much better suited for the Red Sox. Barnes is too much for them to give up for Dempster. I like Henry Owens a ton, but I want something closer to the majors as a headliner than that. I like Alex Wilson and evidently the Cubs did too, at one point. Since we drafted him previously. Owens and Wilson for Dempster? The dodgers just fit better. Then we could get Barnes and Owens, plus more possibly, for Garza.
  20. Eh, maybe I'm letting Goldstein take too much precedence for me. Last night, He said Kirk doesn't have stuff, but does have pitchability, so it gives him a chance.
  21. He gave us all some wonderful......Yeah right. Good riddance, vagabond.
  22. By the time the draft rolled around, my honest guess is it was divided evenly, as far as Correa vs Buxton went. It's not close for me, if I'm choosing Buxton or Correa and McCullers. Especially in a year where the top 8-9 could have went in just about any order as it was.
  23. That's the way to use the top pick. They basically got Correa/McCullers with the top pick. They can make a serious run at Virant and/or Ruiz now too.
  24. Hope they don't give up on Rhee as a starter, certainly not for Austin Kirk of all people. I think I'm just about ready to pull the plug on Rhee and McNutt as starters. Granted, both are still young enough to turn things around, but I think both could help the major league pen by next season. And I don't think either has enough true upside at this point, that putting them in the pen and hoping for a back end of the pen arm to emerge, could be construed as a true negative.
  25. WSR, why would you want to lessen Dempster's value, by putting Soriano with him? Secondly, we want and NEED pitching. Viciedo makes no sense at all. He's horrible defensively and has no approach or plate discipline. I doubt Theo wants to build a package around that, especially considering the need for arms. Quintana? Who knows? But there's a right and wrong time dealing for a guy and right now isn't it. Let him go through the league a little more and see what he becomes. He's probably getting by because no one's familiar with him yet.
