  1. I'm in Virginia Beach. Can't say I know but one "real" Cubs fan. run into people with a Cubs hat or shirt on fairly often. They'll usually say something assinine really quick too. Sandberg should be the manager is the leader in the clubhouse as far as that goes.
  2. Vogelbach dressed, but was the only guy who didn't participate in any pre game stuff. AZPhil speculated he may have tweaked something.
  3. David Bote meeting with Cubs tomorrow, to possibly finalize contract worth more than 100,000. This according to a newscaster in Colorado. The first thing that went through my mind is 100,000 bonus, plus paid tuition.
  4. I'd say Lang is signed. He just thanked the Cubs scouting department and the entire organization, saying his dream's coming true.
  5. Well, who knows? Yasiel Balaguert, who we signed for 400k, originally was being called a guy who may get 10 mill or more.
  6. Someone else who heard the interview said Levine said he COULD be called up on Saturday, but it will be no later than Monday.
  7. No one else has picked this up yet. My guess is it was speculation.
  8. This hasn't hit Twitter yet? Is this a definite or speculation?
  9. Great to hear, even if we knew it was coming soon.
  10. Beaten to the punch. Unsure how excited to be over this guy now.
  11. FWIW, Saunders is 264/328/438 this season in over 250 at bats and is still 25.
  12. Hamilton has a shot to stick at short, which already gives him a leg up on Campana. He also doesn't pound the ball into the ground as much as Campana (who has had GB% numbers in the high 50's/low 60's whereas Hamilton is around the 50% mark). I'm not sure if Hamilton has that much more "real" power over Campana, but he's probably more of an offensive threat than Campana, and Campana's speed, which is plus, is not close to Hamilton's speed, which is plus-plus ... and hell, you can probably throw another plus in there for emphasis. Am I the only one who is reading that Hamilton/Campana comment as more of a knock against those Cubs fans who think so highly of Campana rather than an actual comparison of the players? I just kind of saw it as an accurate comparison between the two. The difference between one being a potential longterm starter versus the other, who's a backup, unless something really changes.
  13. Omar Luis Rodriguez, the 19 year old lefty from Cuba is signing with the Yanks for between 4-5 mill on a minor league deal. He was rated slightly behind Concepcion, so if that's the case, then we didn't overpay a ton for Concepcion.
  14. I can't even find my tweet, but I remember asking Badler how many Cubans would receive as much or more money than Cespedes, if they defected. I think he said around 5. Don't think he mentioned Puig either. My guess is he's gathering info for an article on him, because he hasn't even answered questions on Twitter about him, since this became a possibility.
  15. Oh, I think we definitely should be trying to get this guy, don't get me wrong. I'm used to seeing what seems like(and probably actual) 20-25% of our damn major league payroll tied up between middle relievers and backup middle infielders. If this guy (assuming he's worth it, I can't possibly advocate giving this guy Soler money if he's worth half of what Soler is) is signed, we're going to have about 10 mill a year or so, maybe slightly more, dedicated to this market. Which is a great investment, if even one of these guys pans out. Hendry made sure to set the market for things like middle relief and backups to get HIS guy. Theo's going to wait things out, and get just as good of a return for a lot less money, so signing these guys doesn't even truly affect the payroll in a way that anyone should complain about.
  16. Jackson, Rizzo, and Szczur now maybe, at least project to all have decent OBP going forward.
  17. Awesome. get him in the fold. He's probably well ahead of Soler developmentally, from what it seems. Maybe it's asking for too much to get BOTH him and Soler, but it'd be nice as well. Plus, it'd give us that much more flexibility from a trade standpoint, when it comes to Brett and/or Szczur too.
  18. The Phils are looking at him as Victorino's replacement next year. He's got some sort of knee problem though, so playing CF may be asking too much of him. Personally, I think he needs a change of scenery, but I doubt they're willing to sell low yet.
  19. Career, Hill has Neifi beat. -1.1 to -0.6 actually. But Perez' 2002 season of -2.9 is epic.
  20. They supposedly already were, plus they were at Garza's start last night.
  21. The Nationals signed Hill to a minor league deal. Lending hope for us trading for him twice in the same year.
  22. I read that and didn't understand it at all. Do you need to be on an active roster, so you can defect in good standing?
  23. Trey Lang is in Arizona and had blood drawn this morning. Got to think he's agreed to a contract.
