  1. Well horsefeathers him.
  2. I think we'll add another guy to compete with him. And honestly, I kind of suspect Wilson will pitch like he did pre-trade to us. Super pen it up, Theo.
  3. I like it. Theo ain't messing around.
  4. I know it sounds spoiled, but the closer this gets, the more I'm hoping for a trade instead. A rotation that includes Lester/Hendricks/Quintana/Cobb/Chatwood is damn solid. But, I still kind of want more.
  5. That could be true. Didn't look at it like that. If they do add Cobb though, there's no way they're going after Chacin. He'll cost a pretty decent amount himself. With Pineda or Smyly missing most or all of 2018, I kind of doubt they're fits for us either. That's just extra money you're carrying under the LT for 2018, that could be used to help immediately.
  6. Lauri with 15 and 8. Dunn with 17-7-9. Couldn't finish off the tank W though. At least Atlanta won tonight too.
  7. I keep noticing that popping up, but its just been writers insinuating it, with no quotes from anyone on the subject. If they do get Cobb, I'd suspect some small moves for additional depth. But, I don't think they'd still pursue an Archer deal or anything like that. I think it'd have been a hot topic all off season if we were doing a true 6 man.
  8. Lol. Finally rid themselves of a notoriously stingy and horsefeathers owner prone to spontaneous fire sales. New owners immediately have a fire sale. Badluckbrian.jpg Jeter only owns like 4% of the team too. They're trotting him out there, trying to capitalize on the goodwill he's earned, to deflect this horsefeathers. Hoping Jeter can absorb the PR hit for them lol.
  9. I just read a report that said they've promised investors they'll get down to 55 million. If that's true, then they've got no choice but to deal Yelich and Ozuna basically. What a shitshow.
  10. I don't think it'd take moving a guy like Yelich or Ozuna to get teams to bite on Ziegler or Tazawa anyway. You could pair them with a comp pick or a relatively solid prospect and get out from underneath those one year deals. Same with Volquez, its been done before. Arroyo and Toussaint for basically nothing. Someone may be willing to pay 2/10 on Prado's deal too. Realistically, I can see them trading Starlin and one of Ziegler or Tazawa together and get out from close to 20M for nothing. Then, if they need to go further, package Volquez with their comp pick and maybe a top 10 in their system guy, to save another 13. Again, they don't exactly appear to be bright, but they've got options to lower their payroll considerably still, without touching Yelich or Ozuna. Who they'll need to try and at least put a few people in the seats. Going down another full on Loria style rebuild could cost them more than they want to try, with their fan situation being precarious, to say the least.
  11. I just don't see them moving him. And if they did, there's teams out there with a much larger need and likely to offer a lot more anyway. Still, I think they've got to keep him and maybe even Ozuna for now, to keep whatever tiny amount of attendance they'll have, from plummeting even further.
  12. Yeah, it looks like there's a 6 mill discrepancy in arb estimates? That'd change things a bit. They've got maneuverability though.
  13. Yeah, I can't really argue much of this. I do think we're on complete level ground with Cobb. Partially because I think we're his top choice. My question is whether the market dictates 5 years for him and whether we go that route. I still think our top choice is to trade for a guy. But, timing is going to factor in. Can we make a trade before the top starters are off the board? If not, my guess is we'll sign a guy, so we're not stuck in a bad strength position of negotiating. The Cahill move....You're right. But, I figure he'd be in our pen, when he wasn't needed to start. And figured he liked it here and wanted to come back lol. Grabbing 3 pen arms wouldn't be easy. But, I chose Morrow out of necessity, McGee due to the Tampa connection I feel may be important, and Gregerson because he's from Chicago. In a vacuum, I think we WILL make a few trades. Maybe even a big one for a starter. Almost definitely a small one or two for pitching depth. Maybe even grab a pen arm that way too. The off season with no trades isn't extremely realistic, but other than starting depth and the 3rd reliever, I think its plausible and maybe even likely, at this point. Not necessarily the exact names, but signing a top 4 starter, plus 2 nice pen arms, and Rivera.
  14. After this trade they'll be 10-15 million under. They can probably trade away Betances to fit room to add someone like Cobb and probably be under on the whole. I think its more than that. Tanaka 22.2 Ellsbury 21.8 Chapman 17.2 Headley 13 Gardner 13 Robertson 11.5 Paying McCann 5.5 Warren 3.1 Gregorius 9 Betances 4.4 Gray 6.6 Romine 1.2 Hicks 2.9 Kahnle 1.3 Shreve 0.9 Stanton 22 Total-155.6, plus 6 or 7 for pre arb guys, plus 16 for insurances, sets them at 178.6 or so, at worst. Leaving them a bit over 18 to spend. But, Gardner, Headley, and Robertson are all in the last year of their deals. That's 37.5 mill they can conceivably move away from as well. They're in damn good shape.
  15. Not sure who they're giving up outside of Starlin, but the Yanks can make this move, still add some starting pitching, and stay under the LT. Getting rid of Headley, Gardner, or Robertson could make it even easier. But, it looks like they're at 160, counting Stanton, subtracting Starlin. In other words, they've got about 20M to spend. Much more, if they move any of those 3 guys.
  16. The Yankees and Dodgers are both trying to get the Marlins to eat bad contracts. It doesn't sound as if either one is offering elite prospects either. How about this?(using TT's trade as an example, tweaked a bit) Almora, Tseng, La Stella, Caratini, and Albertos or Ademan for Stanton, 15 mill spread out over first 2 years, Nick Wittgren, and future considerations(meaning their 2nd Round Comp Pick or 2 mill in 2018-2019 IFA money) This moves Heyward to CF. If they choose Happ instead, I guess Stanton is playing LF. It frees Schwarber up to be dealt for the best value, not necessarily even ML pitching. That leaves you needing a Starting Pitcher obviously. And you've got to fill 2 bullpen slots, but you've added Wittgren there, which is solid. C Contreras 1B Rizzo 2B Baez, Zobrist SS Russell 3B Bryant LF Schwarber CF Heyward, Happ RF Stanton SP Lester, Quintana, Hendricks, Chatwood BP Wilson, Edwards, Strop, Montgomery, Grimm, Wittgren, Maples, You're at 141ish towards the LT, at the time of trade. Leaves you 32-35 mill to spend. That would leave you between 7 and 10 or so, for in-season moves. Bring Rivera back at 1/2.5. Bring Cameron Maybin or Austin Jackson in at 1/4. Sign Austin Reed at 3/24. Sign Cobb at 4/60. Sign McGee at 3/18. Get Cahill on an incentive laden deal that starts at 1/1.5 Puts you at 177+ insurances towards 197. Not much room for in-season, maybe 5 mill.... But, you look like this.... C Contreras, Rivera 1B Rizzo 2B Baez, Zobrist SS Russell 3B Bryant LF Schwarber, Happ CF Heyward, Maybin RF Stanton SP Lester, Quintana, Hendricks, Cobb, Chatwood, Cahill BP Reed, McGee, Wittgren, Montgomery, Edwards, Strop, Wilson, Grimm, Maples Why do the Marlins do this? Well, they're stuck lol. We'd be taking on more money than what it looks like the Yankees or Dodgers appear willing to do. And they get a Miami guy in Almora. Plus, they get a solid, cheap 2B in Seal Boy, which they seem to covet in the other rumored deals. Tseng can be successful in a larger park and qualifies as a top 10 prospect from us. Caratini is ML ready and they can find him AB's. Then plug him in fulltime once Realmuto inevitably gets moved. He's also a top 10 guy for us. They also get their choice of the upside of Ademan or Albertos. Who either could be top 100 by mid season. Takes you out on Bryce though, in any realistic scenario. Just won't carry two separate deals of that magnitude. Don't think any team would.
  17. A no trade off season at this point..... Signings Cobb 4/72 Morrow 2/24 Rivera 1/3 McGee 2/14 Gregerson 1/5 Cahill 1/2.5 47.5 added to LT. Conceivably leaves you a little over 10 for in-season moves C Contreras, Rivera, Caratini 1B Rizzo 2B Baez La Stella SS Russell 3B Bryant LF Schwarber Zobrist, Zagunis CF Almora Happ RF Heyward SP Lester, Hendricks, Quintana, Cobb, Chatwood, Cahill, Tseng, Mills RP Morrow, McGee, Edwards, Wilson, Strop, Montgomery, Gregerson, Grimm, Maples, Alvarez
  18. horsefeathering idiot lol
  19. And horsefeathers, I write that horsefeathers for 20 minutes and now the Yanks may get Stanton lol
  20. As for the Marlins, what now? Do you trade Stanton and take back scraps from the Dodgers? The mandate was to try and get payroll down to 90. They've moved Gordon, if someone takes Stanton's contract, you're really close to 90. Granted, the rumors say the Dodgers want to move Kazmir, Gonzalez, and McCarthy in a deal lol. What's more important to the Marlins? 2018 payroll or total amount of contractual debt? If its the 2018 payroll, Stanton likely is staying put. If its the latter, he's probably going to LA. He's put the Marlins in a bad spot. I love it, because they've been stupid thru out this and they deserve it. But, who do they move, if its not Stanton? Ziegler? He's making 9 mill and coming off a subpar year. MAYBE you can get a team to take on half the money? Ozuna? Good as gone. That's 10 mill off their books and it'll net them some very solid prospects too. Prado has 2/28.5 left and he's coming off a bad year. Would a team pay 2/10 for him now? Figure that's close. Straily is going to make about 5M. They can get some decent stuff for him most likely. My guess is that's what they'll move, if they go away from dealing Stanton. They may need to send a prospect or two, in some deals, to try and get the acquiring team to pay a bit more. Or their 2nd Round Comp Pick. I don't see them dealing Yelich or Realmuto. It makes the franchise look even worse, if they deplete everyone, just to stick it to their franchise player and teach him a lesson. Ziegler and Prado can be moved, if you attach something positive to them. Ozuna and Straily can net them some good stuff. That's my guess at what they do, now that Stanton has them by the balls.
  21. Actually more than OK with an actual W this evening. Lauri goes 24 and 12, Dunn didn't shoot well, but still went for 20-6-12.
  22. Chatwood was a "makes sense" move. You now head into the WM's with 4 starters taken care of. I think I was wrong, after reading the post-Ohtani articles, it DOES seem we're definitely still looking at the better FA options. I'm sure they'll weigh the FA versus the trade options and go from there. Yesterday, I definitely figured trade. Now, I'm 50/50. Our LT situation is better than I had even thought. But, it does mean I expect us to add a very good SP somehow.
  23. Let's hope so. Chatwood is a decent #5. Actually, he'll be a very solid 4. But, we'll still get someone better.
  24. I'll be shocked if we don't add a starter that's thought of more highly than Chatwood.
