  1. [tweet] [/tweet] A bit of insight into Ohtani.
  2. Well, that sucks. Severino has been connected to the Yanks too. The pickings are getting slim. I'd take Contreras, just because he's a live arm, at this point.
  3. He's was mostly projected at 2/10 or 2/12. Might be an indication on prices.
  4. Second potential target off the board.
  5. Going first or last is advantageous in most presentations. In a case like this, its very possible its just scheduling stuff though. Honestly, this entire process is nuts. You can talk yourself up or down on about every little morsel that gets released. We don't know a damn thing. Its hilarious that one day the Yankees are the leaders in the clubhouse, then those same guys have turned to the Mariners and Padres. They don't know a damn thing either.
  6. Damn, that sucks. Not a lot of money at all. And he's a guy that is at the upper end of what's out there. Maitan may not cost that much, after all. But, the Yanks and Twins, maybe Rangers too, have loads of current money to spend.
  7. Seriously, Theo has done this horsefeathers before.
  8. Its about damn time. Let's sign some damn guys.
  9. I wonder if they plan on using him as a starter or reliever, if it’s as a starter that could be an indication they are out on Otani They are evidently going to use him as a starter. But, they've not even presented yet. They're not out on him. Plus, they've got multiple holes in their rotation anyway.
  10. Holy horsefeathers. A move! Not a Cubs move, but a move nonetheless.
  11. They should bring him some big ass steaks from one of the places here Oh, I'm sure Theo will be bringing all sorts of whatever his favorite foods are.
  12. The presentation fascinates me. I'd love to find out what they're doing. Would love to know how long the meetings are. I'm guessing they're between 1-3 hours. Theo's gathered info on him for years. I'm sure it'll get his hot button stuff covered. Gotta wonder how they'll bring Chicago to him. He's never been. Be curious what stops they pull there. Granted, he may yet take a visit to any of these cities, since he's seeing presentations thru Friday supposedly.
  13. That tells me that the respect factor put them at the table. But, you're obviously going to piss off at least two of those three teams. Don't think it means much going forward.
  14. I think KB definitely will be there, assuming some players go. He's probably got the most in common with him. I'd suspect the same guys you mentioned, possibly with Hendricks and Quintana, to meet his rotation mates. Maybe Willy, to meet his battery mate. Almora, to meet the guy playing next to him in the OF. That said, it wouldn't shock me if they brought the entire team. Just depends on what Theo knows about him from a personality standpoint.
  15. I looked thru our schedule and tried to project Ohtani's likely playing time. If we use him every 6th day, with the rest of the rotation pitching regularly, then this is how the starts panned out.... Lester and Hendricks get 31, Quintana gets 30, Ohtani and Cobb or whoever get 29. And our 6th guy would project for 12. I actually really like that scenario. From a hitting standpoint, if you figure he sits the day before and day after he pitches, it leaves him with 84 opportunities to start in the field. Granted, maybe he sits versus lefties? If so, I guess you could subtract 15-20 starts from that total. Even if its the high end though, he'd start 64 times, plus 29 more while pitching. Add in pinch hitting most games.....Its definitely possible to find him 350-400 PA..... Starts by position.....Example obviously C Contreras-122, Backup-40, 1B Rizzo-152, Schwarber-10 2B Javy-90, Zobrist-40, Happ-27, Seal Boy-5 SS Addy-130, Javy-32 3B KB-152, Seal Boy-10 LF Schwarber-100, Zobrist-25, Happ-25, Almora-12 CF Almora-90, Heyward-45, Happ-27 RF Heyward-70, Ohtani-65, Happ-15, Zobrist-12 DH Seal Boy-5, Schwarber-4 Total Starts 152- Rizzo, KB 130-Addy 122- Javy 122- Contreras 115- Heyward 114- Schwarber 102- Almora 96- Happ 77- Zobrist 65- Ohtani 40- Backup C 20- Seal Boy There's plenty of AB's to go around for everyone, even with Ohtani being added to things, with no subtractions.
  16. It could be those things, but Texas has shown as much interest in him as anyone, over the years. The relationships built surely helped get them to the table, in this process.
  17. I've wanted to stay completely negative on this. And we're going to get him. Why? We stick out like a sore thumb. We're still in it and based on the known criteria, we've got advantages. Then, you look at him being 23. Look at our damn roster, filled with World Series Champions his age, that are also ridiculously likeable guys. We've never had the Japanese superstar. He can be our guy. We have a true need for a young ace. He can be that guy too. We've got a HOFer in Theo, to handle everything to keep us competitive. We've got Drinky Joe to keep things light and fun and to find ways to play him, that'll be fun and different for him. Between them, and whatever players we bring out to LA, we're going to dazzle him. If anything, I think it looks like he chose all West Coast teams, to make it easier, when he picks us. Which I kind of figure he already has actually. We're the perfect fit for him and he is keenly aware of this. I'm just wondering if Theo brings Bryce to finish this presentation off for him.
  18. Philly maybe, considering his comment about there and only wanting to visit?
  19. And yeah, teams are certainly going to be wary, or downright scared of Theo. There's 5 West Coast teams, the Rangers with a very nice NPB success story, in Yu.....And the Cubs. Plenty of damn good franchises missed this cut. Including the Yankees, bitching about needing to be on the West Coast, or a small market. Of which the Cubs are neither. It really is amazing how much the culture changed with Theo. He'll get his guy.
  20. We figured on this, I guess.
  21. I figure Duke or Logan, if we take a one year lefty. Not a southpaw, sorry. Can't speak for Duke, though. Reverse splits guy, maybe? And where the horsefeathers is Duke? He's disappeared.
  22. Volquez just had TJS. But, that'd make it easier to see the Marlins try to put him in a deal anyway.
  23. I get it with Salazar, but he's a beast when healthy and is probably the most talented pitcher they can get in a Happ led trade. He has 3 years control remaining. Even if they get Ohtani, they still have a bit of a surplus with position players and a need for good pitchers. Especially with Ohtani probably facing an inning limit this year. With Duensing I was just trying to think of a lefty that might sign a 1 year deal. I figure Duke or Logan, if we take a one year lefty.
