  1. Not good news. Kind of shows they don't give a [expletive] about staying under the luxury tax.
  2. If only I had the power to make posts like this go away... The funny thing is, it actually brings to light just how deep our pen is. If Vera's and Russell are sent packing mid season, we'll have Fujikawa coming back, along with Rusin, Raley, Rosscup, Wada, and a bunch of RHP to replace Russell. The pen can withstand some injuries AND a trade or two, in my opinion. The upside is there and the depth is great.
  3. That may not be all that bad of a value. Parks is going to have Stroman in his top 50 and Norris in his top 100. Not necessarily condoning the deal, but it's not awful, if you think Stroman is a starter.
  4. So Parks was asked in his chat today if Correa would win a prospect smack down with the rest of the minor league SS's.....Said Lindor is the safest bet, with Russell close behind. But Javy has one of the highest ceilings in the minors and if he reaches it, HE'S THE BEST SS IN THE GAME and a perennial All Star. Higher risk, of course, but higher reward.
  5. Lim is gone. Personally, I am really high on Grimm coming out of the pen. But with all this depth, my guess is we'll give him one more year as a SP, likely at Iowa to start with.
  6. Brian Roberts looks to be headed to the Yanks. Darwin looks like he's sticking around for a while.....
  7. I really think it's going to take us coming out of our comfort zone to sign him. Meaning we'll likely have to be willing to give him a shorter deal(4 years, then FA), which was the sticking point on Cespedes and why we didn't get him and also possibly giving him a NTC, while we're supposedly against them. I also think we'll have to OUTBID, not just match, other teams, due to them being closer to contention or already contending. If we HAVE the ability though, he's a must get, in my mind. If it's 4/100, plus the posting fee, in order to get him? Do it. I'll guess Seattle gets him though, Japanese ownership, making splashes, looking for a bigtime SP, etc.....Just makes sense to me.
  8. I'll trust the FO, especially with saber metrics. Their handling of Vitters and Lake shows which of the pair THEY think is more likely to succeed. And my guess is they have all the numbers we do, plus more. I guess it's possible to blame Sveum, but the FO certainly could have said they'd prefer him to be an everyday player in his callup and they didn't.
  9. Cleveland had the 7th ranked overall defense heading into today. Cutler, even with a rusty first half, moved the ball easily. The doubters need to look at the differences between the caliber of D's each of Cutler and McCown have played.
  10. If Vitters gets 100 ML AB's as a Cub from this point forward, I'll be surprised.
  11. Gardner is pretty damn valuable, I don't want to give up the Alcantara type I figure it'd take to get him honestly. If he's available as a FA next year, I do hope we're in on him. Personally, I think the Yanks will keep him this year and dump Ichiro, possibly back to Seattle.
  12. Valbuena/Roberts as a platoon would be cool at 3B, if Olt struggles. Spring Training will be interesting at least. I fully expect Kalish to take Brett's 40 man spot and Roberts to make the team in some role.
  13. Wow. He was really good 2 years ago. He's already 33 though. What positions can he play? 2B, 3B, maybe some LF.
  14. FTW North for President of NSBB. Kind of implied, isn't it? The [expletive] site is named after him, isn't it?
  15. Seems like he makes the team if Olt doesn't win the starting job no? That's what I was thinking too. This is this years "Lillibridge" move, just much, much better. I'll be surprised if he doesn't make the team honestly. Guess it could allow Barney to be dealt too, especially with Valbuena only takin reps at 2B this winter.
  16. Damn, Ryan Roberts on a minor league deal? Good job, fellas.
  17. We claimed Liam Hendriks from the Twins.
  18. I understand your point, I think I'm higher on Norris or Tirado than you may be. I'd have either of them in our top 10 and think both have a solid shot at hitting a top 100 list after they pitch in 2014. I do admire the FO for trying to get as much as they're trying to. It's not the end of the world if he pitches for us in 2014 without a new deal. I just want a resolution.
  19. No doubt. But do other teams look at him that way? Is he a middle of the rotation type? More? I've got no idea myself. It's a tough call as to what to do with him. If the best offer you've got includes Sanchez and a couple of lower level guys that fit in the back third of our top 30, do you trade him? Do you give into giving him a 5/85 deal with a full NTC? Or do you hold on to him and gather more info? If those are the actual options, I'm holding him until I know more. I don't want to see him pitch awful in the first half of 2014 or get hurt though, so it's a balancing act. In the end, if the Jays offered up one of those 2, one of Norris or Tirado, and Gose, I'd take it(assuming its better than the other offers) because of the potential downside of something bad happening. Because I do think there's a better chance of that than of him pitching lights out and making teams up their offers from where they stand currently.
  20. That guy has been around a while. He's shown no application to be able to concoct decent rumors though. He sucks.
  21. One of them for Shark would be [expletive]. Pound sand AA Would it? Both are top 50 prospects, Sanchez may be top 30. I'd be fine with either, assuming there's another useful piece or two involved. Yes it would. TINSTAAPP is a phrase to sell books, but it's based on something very real. Pitching prospects yet to hit AAA are far less certain than their reputations. Thats why I said another useful piece or two. Tirado or Norris, along with a guy like Gose, is enough to make me pull the trigger, if Sanchez or Stroman is the headliner. I understand the probabilities of pitching prospects vs. hitting prospects. But while the odds say it takes two top 50 pitching prospects to basically equal the same success rate as a single top 50 hitting prospect, it's yet to carry over into trades and it never will. Because finding TOR pitching is so hard to do. And we need pitching more than anything.
  22. One of them for Shark would be [expletive]. Pound sand AA Would it? Both are top 50 prospects, Sanchez may be top 30. I'd be fine with either, assuming there's another useful piece or two involved. Sanchez is going to be a top 30 prospect without ever clearing 2 K/BB above rookie ball? Definitely top 50, my guess is he's top 30 on a few of them.
