  1. One, Kurt Suzuki just signed somewhere. Two, the Yanks still have Ichiro and if him and Tanaka are great friends and Tanaka is going to go wherever he is, do you think they're going to trade him to us?
  2. Jefferson Mejia would have been a top 20 guy, but wasn't listed due to being a year older, as he was suspended due to age questions the previous year. BA was very high on him.
  3. Dear Santa, My owner needs 20 million dollars to give to a baseball team in Japan. He also needs 150 million dollars to give to a baseball player. If there is any money left from that, I'll make sure he gives it back to you, although, I'm very transparent and it may take a while, as he may use it on batting cages, an LED board, or paying off Beth Murphy. But I'll make sure he eventually gives it back. Unless it gets gobbled up in the debt structure. In fact, if you don't give my owner some money, can you please help me come up with a story that turns it into a positive when he signs with the Yanks or Dodgers? I'm smart as all [expletive], but I think I'll need help on this one..... Theodore Epstein Esq.
  4. No word yet. CJ Nitkowski was who mentioned the presser. Who knows?
  5. Conflicting reports, as we 've come to expect. Press conference in 45 minutes though.
  6. A second paper says same thing. Kaplan says we won't be outbid, but execs question if he'll pass up Yanks, Dodgers......
  7. I don't consider that a fluff piece either. And with the "I'll do WTF I want", the 4 HR game, calling his HR in spring training last year, and having the MLB logo tattooed on his neck, I refuse to believe Javy has a chance at being ANYTHING other than a damn superstar from hell for us.
  8. Very happy to see this, hopefully we snag a few more. Never heard anything on Perez or anyone else falling through the cracks, so it'll have to be pop up types. At any rate, it's one hell of a class. Pile on.
  9. If, big if..... Tanaka, Shark, Wood, Jackson, Arrieta Cl-Veras SU-Strop, Parker LHP-Russell, Wright MR-Crain, Villanueva Backups for rotation-Rusin, Wada Bullpen depth- Grimm, Rondon, Fujikawa, Vizcaino, Raley Even more if we add another starter, which could be a scrap heap type. I like it no matter what park we play in.
  10. So now we're checking into Jesse Crain's health evidently. We've got to have a trade lined up somewhere that takes away from our pen, right? LHP Russell, Wright with Raley, Rusin, Rosscup, Sanchez,Hovotny, Wada(starting supposedly) RHP Veras, Villanueva, Strop, Parker, Rondon, Grimm, Vizcaino, Cabrera, Fujikawa Plus you've got Neil Ramirez and Brett Marshall in the mix, along with Zych and Rivero. This is looking like a hell of an interesting pen, even if Rusin somehow makes the rotation. Or if Villanueva does, for that matter. I'd like to add Crain to the mix myself. This depth is going to help out big time with what could be less than a stellar back end of the starting rotation.(add Tanaka and keep Shark though and who knows?). I'm seeing an unlikely Pads run from a couple of years ago.
  11. They may have spent money on the draft for the most part(not as much as they could have, but acceptable) but they winged it from a player development standpoint at all times, prior to Theo. Extremely small scouting departments, unorganized paths for improvement, pitiful tracking systems for development, bad facilities....Just not a set up to maximize your success in under any circumstances and the results helped prove it out.
  12. It's not because of just him, it's the amount of lefties we've got stockpiled at this point that makes me say it. Wright is certainly on the team, Rusin COULD wind up in the pen, it looks like Raley is headed towards being a fulltime bullpen arm, Rosscup is going to get a look. We've now signed Wada and Sanchez to minor league deals. Surely something's gonna give.....
  13. Just got Jonathan Sanchez on a minor league deal. My guess is Russell gets dealt to the Padres......
  14. According to Sullivan, we signed Jonathan Sanchez to a minor league deal.
  15. Damn. If he can get to 3000 hits, he's going to be Ted Williams over the next several years. Sign him today. I'm admittedly not a fan of Kurt, but I don 't wish him frozen.
  16. What the hell for? So he can play on a crappy team for a year, get a 2 year extension, get as many at-bats as possible, and reach 3000 hits/500 SBs... I think Kurt's plan is a little flawed They've cracked down on identity theft too, I think he's pretty much screwed.
  17. The quicker Deng is dealt, it'd have to help with any tanking ideas anyway.
  18. I'm expecting Baker to be back. Whether we get Tanaka or not.
  19. Honestly though, I think the Bulls are in complete limbo as far as what to do moving forward. Sure, bring Mirotic over. That's an easy decision. But NOTHING else is. Keep Deng? I guess it makes sense if you think Rose can stay healthy, but how is that even a remote possibility? Not him staying healthy, but thinking for sure that he will.....Amnesty Boozer? Still doesn't give you space to get a max guy and even if you COULD get one, does one of those guys truly want to tie up 5 years hoping Rose can stay healthy? Seems like there would be clearer ways for them to join a contender to me, not even accounting for the fact Rose won't recruit to begin with. Hell, I saw an article a few days ago mentioning it may be possible to trade Thibs for a lottery pick. I dismissed it, but if a team was stupid enough to offer one up, you'd HAVE to do it, right?
  20. [expletive] that's spot on. I'm not really anti-Derrick Rose or anything Bernstein addresses several issues that bother me. And I didn't realize the rift between BJ and Pax for some reason. I've been saying this for a couple years, but I think there's a pretty decent chance Derrick is gone in a couple of years, whether its because he leaves on his own, or never recovers fully from his injuries and is let go. Thats exactly where I'm at too, even down to not knowing about Pax and BJ.
  21. Keep in mind, they've got Robertson, Gardner, and Nova in arb. That's close to 15 mill thats unaccounted for. If you add in Tanaka, Choo, and Garza, lets say at 20, 20, and 15 AAV, you're up to 247 mill, which DOES kind of blow last year out of the water. Take away A-Rod's 26 and its palatable, I guess, but still an increase.
  22. It's a more well put together version of exactly what Bernstein has been saying on the radio, and it's hard to disagree with anything he says there. Do we think Rose actually is complaining?
  23. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2013/12/18/bernstein-rose-no-longer-humble-hometown-kid/ Thoughts?
  24. I've never bought in to us being truly in on Choo. Especially not at 7/140. If we make a giant FA signing, it's Tanaka or bust.
