  1. .289/.351/.476- that was Victor Martinez 2016 line, with 27 HR and 86 RBI..... That's worth .9 fWAR as a DH(with 5 games at 1B) Seriously, Soler doesn't have much value. I'm honestly hoping that if this goes thru, we're JUST losing him. Even with Davis' forearm crap.
  2. For a year and a half worth of closers the Cubs have given up Gleyber and Soler. If only they'd have packaged them together at one point you'd think they could have landed a closer with a little bit of team control. I look forward to giving up Eloy for a season of whoever in 2018. Yeah, getting a World Series win absolutely sucked utter and complete ass.
  3. Phil legit thinks that since the meetings are in DC, they get to make the last offer on any deal.
  4. The playoffs were just a sample size too. The K rate was managed well during the season and his work ethic should help in all aspects going forward. He sacrificed some power, for contact, but he's a mid 20's HR guy with a full seasons worth of AB's.....The walk rate almost has to go up. Its obviously bad, but I'd bet on it moving up 2-3% anyway going forward. He's just a very divisive player. Almost all of us are dug in one way or the other. I just expect continued improvement. All Star by 2018, maybe even this year.
  5. He still was a horsefeathers player vs RHP this year. He's a great weapon to have as a backup to pick and choose his offensive matchups vs LHP and late inning defense but I'm not seeing anything he's done, or shown improvement on vs RHP, to really warrant giving him a larger role in 2017 unless forced to do so. And like I said above in the scenario you start taking away his RHP protection you are looking at a glove only guy in the lineup most days. A .689 OPS isn't great obviously. But its certainly fine considering the rest of our offense. His D is valuable enough to play him fulltime, in his current state. But again, he'll be 24 all next season.....The talent is there for so much more, he's going to improve against righties, the more he sees of them at this level. What he's done, to date, in his ML career, is basically how some of the scouting reports called it. Raw, would take a while to become a finished product. The tools are there, his D is better than advertised, and is worth enough for us to be able to wait on the offense, considering the upside he has, if he comes even close to tapping into it. He's worth waiting on and we're in a perfect position to do it.
  6. To me, the improvements he's already made offensively makes it much, much more likely that he'll keep improving. His upside is still very far from his current product, which is still a 3 win guy up the middle. Personally, I'm not concerned if they DO deal him, only because I feel like we'd need to be overwhelmed by the offer. Otherwise, I suspect he's a fulltime 4 win guy for us in 2017.
  7. How do you get to 35-40 starts out of Kawasaki? LaStella would pick up ABs, Zobrist would be at 2B a lot more, Schwarber hopefully takes more than the 125 games and ~550 ABs Fowler leaves open, Jay/Almora r getting a full season, etc? And for PH 2 of Soler, Schwarber, Jay, Almora or Heyward have to be on the bench to start a game, 1 of Bryant, Zobrist or LaStella do as well and most likely 1 of Montero/Contreras (assuming no Willy in the OF). Having Javy as insurance if Addy gets hurt is what he's talking about. A 15-20 game stretch without Addy, puts the 35-40 starts Tim is proposing, as a reality. Having THIS type of quality depth is something no one else has. Its valuable.
  8. Candelario and Caratini may very well be more valuable than Soler, especially if he's looked at as a DH. Hell, non zero chance Szczur and Soler are close in value, especially considering Soler isn't making league minimum.
  9. I'm fine with this development. I'm fine without it.
  10. Not when Davis has cancer of the forearm and Soler has AIDS of the hamstring.
  11. Soler hurt himself walking to pee and Davis cramped up with a sudden move to pick up his cell.
  12. I just don't see Soler having much value. Decent, but not yet great production, with bad defense and hurt constantly. Unfortunately, I think Davis may bring MORE than just him, even with his forearm stuff. Not a Soler fan, but definitely preferred dealing him for a young SP.
  13. Its not a matter of even dealing Javy. Its what ELSE, to go with him.....Surely Schwarber or Eloy. That'd it'd take for the White Sox to trade a guy like THAT, to us. As has been said, ad nauseum, it'd cost us more. Just not worth it. If you can get Robertson for a song, a dance, and a Jeimer.....Fine. But we're just wasting time thinking about them trading elite guys to us. Hahn and Jed have both basically said so too.
  14. Couple of thoughts......1) Does the NPB/MLB arrangement now have to be reworked as well? I'm assuming so. If it doesn't change, then his team would STILL get the 20 mill posting fee and could conceivably see if Otani is willing to just come over for 10 mill(max slot plus trading for most slot possible)....Of course, we'd be fucked, not being able to spend next year. Unfortunately, I think the Yankees and Red Sox can......Which would be unbelievably fortunate for them..... In trying to come up with loopholes......Possible to get his team to sign him to long term megadeal and transfer it to major league team off the books? Unprecedented, but not sure it'd be illegal, based on language. It'd be cleaned up immediately, if its not though, as it could make life very easy on teams trying to avoid the luxury tax....
  15. Is that how the contract works? Lump sum? Its a signing bonus. I GUESS they could stretch it out. But he's a typical player that just started service time. He wasn't even on the 40 man at the time of signing. At any rate, its no surprise the WS aren't paying that money. I wouldn't either, if I were them.
  16. Considering how that was a one time fee, plus a paid in full penalty, how is that actual news?
  17. I think Jesse Rogers tweeted earlier they were looking for a veteran catcher to stash in the minors. Don't think the intent is to carry 3 catchers like last year, just have a Federowicz type guy in Iowa for emergencies. Oh, I know. Just poking fun at Fed's uselessness.
  18. That would seem to make sense.... Maybe it's just for an arm reliever, but if it's the start of something bigger.... How much value does Profar still have? Could him and like Soler lead a package for Odorizzi? I kind of doubt it. He's down to 3 controllable seasons and obviously has lost lots of value too. He'd be a guy to try and get though, if you were moving Javy in an Archer deal though.....
  19. [tweet] [/tweet] SEASON OVER
  20. [tweet] [/tweet] Could it be Candelario for something?
  21. [tweet] [/tweet] That one seems borderline optimistic on Kenley. [tweet] [/tweet] This one does not, implying we're off in years and AAV.
  22. [tweet] [/tweet]
  23. [tweet] [/tweet] What's 1 year of Duffy going to cost?
  24. Jorge De La Rosa evidently is willing to pitch out of the pen as a multi inning guy.
