  4. Please?
  5. I can only guess they'll trade back from 36 tomorrow, in order to recoup some picks? I'm stunned at this.
  6. Good, now Pace gets fired next year with Fox.
  7. This is so fucked up lol
  8. Don't take the 1st QB off the board with 1 pick, but take the 4th QB off the board using 3 picks? Seriously, you may not agree. But its definitely possible our top choice at QB COULD be there and YES, it'd be worth doing, if Pace believes in the guy. I think you must think every team has these guys evaluated the exact same. Hell, I'm OK with not taking a QB at all this year.
  9. Zagunis IS a guy that can take this role over Young. But again, I think he's got a bit of actual trade value, like Caratini..... Those guys are potential 2nd guys in small deals. Young isn't on that level. My argument here is he gets time here because he's NOT got trade value, but IS good enough to play in the majors. Hannemann could also be this type. The others are much more likely to be used for pitching.
  10. Candelario will be dealt. Happ likely becomes our new Zobrist soon enough, or is dealt himself. Caratini gets dealt, IMO. My guess is we'll want a vet backup C. 12 position players next year......WC, Rizzo, KB, Javy, Addy, Almora, Heyward, Schwarber, Zobrist, Seal Boy, backup C, and Happ. Off chance of Happ or Javy being dealt. Young becomes an up and down option next year and a likely Seal Boy replacement in 2019, due to saving money incrementally. He's got positional flexibility, makes contact, gets on base, and being home grown helps his cause too. Again, this is dependent upon him hitting better in Iowa the rest of this year obviously.
  11. Thomas or Adams pleases me. If we feel we MUST take a QB, use 36, our 4ths, or non 1sts next year to move up from 36..... Its really murky. My gut tells me Trubisky goes 5th(Cleveland moving up) and Mahomes goes 13. And if we take a QB, its trading up to 22(Miami) or 24(Oakland) to grab Watson. Or possibly to 28(Dallas) or 32(Saints) to grab Kizer.
  12. You SHOULD. Because it means our youngsters have played well enough to get paid bigly in arb. And it means we've added another big FA too. We'll be wanting a few min salary guys to stay close and dip under the LT some seasons, to avoid huge fines and loss of draft picks.
  13. Goony, I hate spending time defending Young. I brought him up mainly because I wasn't sure CT remembered him or not. It was kind of a throwaway comment, but I might as well nerd out now that we've got a minor league discussion going about it lol. TT, you're right, he's not a SS, but he has played it. He's played everywhere but C and maybe CF, at some point in the minors. He's a pinch hitter/fill in type that likely spends plenty of time in the majors. MAYBE even for us. We've got guys getting ready to start getting expensive, likely to add another expensive FA too. A guy like Young seems like an excellent cost saving measure as a 12th man type for us. Again, provided he's in the general neighborhood of a .700 OPS, which I personally think he will be.
  14. TT, I'm not concerned about a sub-100 PA sample size. If he's not over .750 in Iowa at the end of the year, I'll likely hedge my bets somewhat here.....But, he's been a year younger than TLS at each level too. Again, I don't think he's got Seal Boys pop. But, I do believe in the hit tool. He's going to have an actual ML career.
  15. A non prospect? So, you think he's never making the majors......Or you don't know what NP implies.(and I know you do) If someone is a replacement level major leaguer at best who might one day get a call from AAA for an injury or something, you're saying that's a prospect? Young is the 16th rated guy in our system by BA. I'm far from sure Young is just a replacement level guy and I'm fairly sure he'll have more of a ML career than what you're saying. Doubt its with us, but he's a major leaguer.
  16. La Stella isn't nearly good enough to even have less than a poor mans version of. And I used the words "possible" and "type". Can Young put up a .750 OPS in the majors? Doubtful. .700? I'd say yeah, but it'll be more BA and OBP driven than SLG. I think that's close enough to be a "type" of La Stella, since Young can move around a bit on the dirt, has a good eye, and makes good contact-just as Seal Boy.
  17. A non prospect? So, you think he's never making the majors......Or you don't know what NP implies.(and I know you do)
  18. About time you showed back up here man! In Iowa, Chesny Young has turned himself into a likely ML player. Bench bat for us, but a possible La Stella type. Not sure you'd have caught that, even if you know the name..... For Tennessee, Trevor Clifton(borderline top 100 guy) is our best hope as far as becoming our first starting pitcher to be drafted by Theo. Maybe a Hammel type career? Figure you know the upper levels a bit better, so a few more players for MB and SB.... Myrtle Beach Adbert Alzolay- smallish SP, good velocity, future pen arm. Thomas Hatch- top pick last year, pushed to high A already, which says we obviously like the guy Oscar De La Cruz- big guy, big velo, solid upside. Borderline top 100 guy currently. Carlos Sepulveda- Small MI, great contact skills, solid defender, young for the level. South Bend Dylan Cease- you know him. He's finally in full season ball and throwing darts, but has a blindfold on at times. Dakota Mekkes- giant eighty, low slotted delivery is VERY deceptive. Future ML reliever. Just gave up 1st HIT of year, after 11 hitless innings. Wladimir Galindo- Has power and learning discipline. Defense on a corner infield split seems iffy. Isaac Paredes- only 18 and in full season ball. Very advanced, evaluators question if his body is kind of maxed out, meaning early bloomer. Too early to say, but he's looked like a steal so far. Easy to be excited on him. Plenty more guys in EXST, but these are guys I'd say have turned heads. Not bringing up the Eloys and Happs, or even the Zagunis or Candelario types, because I know you know them. Solid system currently and back on the upswing. Eloy and Happ are top 10 and top 50 guys respectively. Cease is top 100. De La Cruz, Clifton, and Candelario each made a top 100 list over the off season. Have some exciting guys in EXST, Jose Albertos(pitcher) and maybe Aramis Ademan(SS). Development going normal this year, the addition of 2 1st round picks, its probably 50/50 the system moves from middle of the pack back to top 10.
  19. 1) I find it extremely hard to believe they'd be that dumb. But IF they were? SF takes Garrett at 2 and nothing else really changes. There's a few beat guys thinking Watson is our choice at 3, or with a slight trade down. There's others that think the 3 players Pace said we're considering at 3 are Thomas, Hooker, and Lattimore. Honestly, nothing should be a surprise tomorrow. Hell, saw something today mentioning our interest in Fournette.

  21. We have a very similar example of a player who didn't get that 7-figure bonus and ended up returning to college just last year. Schmidt's teammate Wil Crowe was pegged to go in the same area last year, had TJS around the same time and tumbled to day 3. Crowe didn't get enough bonus money, returned for his RS junior year and his stock has rebounded to around pre-injury levels.. Obviously each player's level of interest in turning pro is different but Schmidt (like Crowe) isn't an Tommy John-ed potential top 10 pick like Hoffman/Fedde/Giolito/Cease/Quantrill so teams might be more hesitant to pony up. Any idea on what Crow was asking last year? I don't have any memory of it. Obviously, I'm speculating on Schmidt too. Just kind of like any opportunity that could potentially net us 3 top 40ish guys.

  23. Honestly, I doubt he'd make it to pick 67. There will be teams saving a bit of money off there 1st round slots, that'll be willing to grab him in the 2nd. Probably a team in the 37-50 range, as the slot values seemingly allow for teams to slightly under slot in the 1st. I'd be shocked if Schmidt doesn't still get 1.5-2 mill. If he was expected to be top 15ish, he'd have gotten 3+ prior to the injury. His figure may drop a bit, but teams would certainly be willing to take that chance, in my opinion. IF he'd take 1.5ish, I'd be willing to gamble at 30 on him and give pick 67 an additional 5-600k to play with. Might be a way for us to land 3 top 40ish talents, instead of just 2.
  24. He had a poor junior season in college. Heading into his draft year, he was considered a potential 3rd-5th round pick. Interesting. I'll have to keep him on my radar going forward. He seems to have a nice approach, which I love. Any idea how he looks on defense? Very solid defensively. Should not have to move off SS.
