  1. That's because it sucks. As an aside, does anyone think this makes Pie or even Murton more available trade pieces for a big bat??? I'm looking for a silver lining. On my walk, I was thinking the same thing basically. This could add Murton to the "chip" pile if need be for a bigger acqisition. then I think I came to my senses.
  2. Why bother? A bottle of Liquid Drano is a lot cheaper. It's an OLD ENGLISH night if you ask me. EDWARD 40HANDS! I'm on my third bottle of Dos Equis. I'm not gonna quit until I've forgotten about this signing. :D Some Bailey's mixed with a little bit of vanilla ice cream is calming my nerves. 3 fingers of Glen Levvit on the rocks, after a quick "check up"on the backside of the shed. repeat..........
  3. KC, and thanks to Dusty's wonderful skills, he only had to pay $1m more than the Royals offered. But atleast he wasn't getting in no bidding war for Brian Giles. :x
  4. Gillooly.... Paging Jeff Gillooly>>>>> I kid.
  5. GOOOOZFRABBA!!!!! Merry Christmas?!?! Couldn't they have atleast waited to anounce this until after the holidays????? LOL Wow, Just wow.
  6. After sitting the year and not signing with the Phills after being drafted, I really don't see Drew going to Philadelphia. He is a hated man in that city. Maybe they can hire Mitch Williams and Joe Carter as base coaches?? :)
  7. Or it could be an indication of how little MLB GM's value the addition of Bradley to their team. The mid-level prospect the Dodger's received was probably pretty close to the best offer they saw from any team. Place Bradley's stats, talent and age on any other outfielder and they would offer a much higher return. When considering the baggage Bradley brings along...........the value plummets. I'm glad Hendry stayed away. has hendry proven to be a better gm than beane? i don't think so. Billy Beane hasn't won anything! He's no better than Hendry! Its a good thing you don't run the Cubs! You love Moneyball! DePodesta failed! Riccardi is a spendthrift! Epstein was secretly fired because he was inept! Stop the Beane manlove! Its the standard anti-Beane stuff I usually receive. I thought you might enjoy it, Abuck. i do sleep w/ a copy of moneyball under my pillow. With OBP embroidered(sp?) on one pillow case, and OPS on the other?? 8)
  8. Looking at these numbers, what did we ever see in Nic? He was a 3rd round draft pick in 2000, put up weak numbers that year in Eugene. Didn't play in 2001 (is that right?). In 2002 (22) he was okay in AA in very limited duty and stunk in 2003. Felix put up far better numbers in AA at 20. And has the benefit of being a CF, while Nic was a corner OF. Your source is not correct, because it omitted 2001, which is the season that established him as a top prospect. I looked him up in one of my Baseball America Prospect Handbooks, and in 2001 he played for Daytona. In 503 ABs he hit .296 with 19 HRs, 85 RBIs, 24 SBs, 96 Ks, and 39 BBs. It looked like he had the combination of hitting for average and power and stealing bases; that's why everybody was so high on him. Omitting that season gives an entirely different picture. He was also considered excellent with the leather as well was he not??
  9. I'm still holding out hope Hendry can pry Wilkerson away from the Rangers before he officially unpacks his bags. Walker+Wuertz+(one of the few pieces remaining from possible tejada deal)
  10. Thinking more on the lines of being able to keep Cedeno+Williams instead of just Pie. Just my preference, Williams has proven to be adequate (at a min.) as a big league starter, he is young and cheap. If we do deal Cedeno, Hendry has GOT to get off Dusty's ridiculous hard-on for Walker and keep him around.
  11. If I am Hendry, I do everything in my power to try and keep Cedeno and Williams out of any deal. Try and overwhelm with quanity (dope/Harvey etc..) while including Pie. They could move Mora to Short and use some of the excess prospects in a deal to Toronto for Hinske. We are going to need Williams I am afraid this season and I want nothing to do with Neifi at 2nd on a daily basis, if Hendry is indeed hell bent on getting rid of Walker. Pie+Hill+Guzman+Ryu+Patterson+Dope?
  12. Hinske won a ROY. To be fair tho, the Cubs have focused on pitching pretty heavily in recent drafts.
  13. Vance, I disagree. I don't believe Hendry will include him. We can discuss whether that's a mistake, but I don't think Pie will be part of any Cubs offer. How does the Baltimore brass justify this kind of move WITHOUT bringing back in return the crown jewels of our system is what I am thinking. Especially considering what we paid for Pierre. We will have to pay dearly, IMO.
  14. Remove Mora and Tejada and they are nothing but "weakness". that roberts cracker wasnt too bad  True. That Roberts "character"? :D
  15. Remove Mora and Tejada and they are nothing but "weakness".
  16. Not as big as a previous RF that played in Chicago. Or previous linebacker for the Bears.
  17. Don't want Mench anyway, the guys got a big head. No way of telling how he would fit in the clubhouse.
  18. Wasn't it the Jays who were rumored to be looking into acquiring Wilkerson?? Maybe Hendry has thrown his hat in that direction(Wilkerson) and the jays are considering other options?? Just hopin'?
  19. Trying to tell me both clubs wouldnt be MUCH better off if we would have traded Walker+Welly(prospect?) to them for just Wilkerson??? Jebus Bowden.
  20. The man is a uniter - just in this thread we have KC and the Sunshine Band, John Lennon and Guns and Roses references! Wow! To be honest, most of the hostility is more targeted for Baker and his ridiclous usage of Macias....I guess he united us there as well.
  21. Do a little dance Make a little love get down tonight.... Gremlin gone.... \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/
  22. It was very obvious that Cedeno would not start over Neifi. The most he could hope for was a platoon situation where he got "signficant time." ](*,) ](*,)
  23. The Cubs ranked 2nd in HR and SLG last year. They were 13th in SB and 11th in OBP. Despite Derrek Lee having a phenomenal season, he finished with a relatively low number of RBI's - only 107. This can most easily be attributed to a lack of production from the hitters in front of him. Based on that information, I'd say that the Cubs are definitely set in the power department. What they need is a solid leadoff man and #2 hitter, yet many of you are diminishing the importance of a solid leadoff man. After watching Derrek Lee for an entire season, I don't know how any of you can say that. In addition to a good leadoff man, the Cubs need hitters with good OBP and speed to steal bases. Which player - Pierre or Wilerson - fits what the Cubs need more? Wilkerson has a marginally better OBP. Pierre had a down year in this category last year, but his career OBP is only 10 points lower than Wilkersons. I believe he more than makes up for this by having a career average that is 50 points higher than Wilkerson's. And nobody is going to debate that Pierre is a better baserunner. It's not even close. Pierre is also by far a better leadoff man. Maybe you could make the argument that Wilkerson is an all-around better player than Pierre, but there is no doubt that Pierre is a better fit for this Cubs team. Add that to the fact that the Marlins were desperate to unload players while the Expos are only willing to trade Wilkerson if it will improve the team, and it is clear that Pierre was a better option for the Cubs to trade for. We probably would have had to give up even more for Wilkerson, a player of roughly equal but a worse fit for our club. I look forward to watching DLee and ARam drive in run after run as Pierre creates havoc on the basepaths. The Nats can have Wilkerson and his 8 extra home runs - most likely solo shots. Pierre will create way more than that with his speed. Wow. I completely agree.
  24. That I could live with, although I would arrange them a little differently. Pierre Walker Lee ARam Bradley Murton Cedeno Barrett
