    I still say if you can get him, then get him. He may not be able to help dig the Cubs out of the hole this year, but he is signed for 4 mores years I think. That would give the Cubs a nice top of the rotation with Peavy, Z and Lilly. Let Harden walk. Once the ownership gets finalized then you can see what kind of payroll the Cubs will have to address the rest of the teams needs (I.E. the pen) in the offseason. Just my 2 cents.

    Stark On Peavy, Oswalt, Phillies, DeRosa, Giants By Tim Dierkes [May 28 at 2:28pm CST] Let's take a look at the latest Rumblings and Grumblings column from ESPN's Jayson Stark. The Padres' recent winning streak has not changed their intention of trading Jake Peavy. The Dodgers and Cubs are in Peavy's first tier of choices, follwed by the Giants, Cardinals and Astros. The Angels would be the one AL team he'd consider. The East Coast is a long shot. Also, Peavy will want his 2011-13 partial no-trade clause to become a full no-trade. Peavy's friend Roy Oswalt has been unsuccessful in lobbying Astros owner Drayton McLane, as the 'Stros can't take on Peavy's contract. That is what CAN NOT happen.

    The clock is ticking and the Cubs have a brief window right now to get a Jake Peavy deal done. The Padres' horrible financial situation precipitated the White Sox talks, and has San Diego now talking again to the only two teams for which Peavy is interested in playing at the moment. He will waive his no-trade for the Cubs or the Dodgers, but you have to think that if the Padres can't move Peavy's contract very soon, perhaps within a week or two, they'll begin offloading salaries, and at that point they might as well keep Peavy. So it may be that Tom Ricketts has only a short time to give GM Jim Hendry the OK to make the Peavy deal. http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=296123

    What we all have to realize is that it is a LONG season with a lot of highs and lows. Every team in baseball goes though slumps. The Cubs are going through a frustrating slump now. Just as Vance said, the players, couches, Lou and Hendry all know its a long season. The fans should too. I'm as frustrated as anyone about this pathetic team play this week. As a matter of fact, I just spent this whole road trip in the hospital. The only thing that kept be a little happy was knowing I was going to watch the Cubs. That turned out great. :thumbsup: Everytime the nurses would do their rounds and a game was on, they could count on my BP being elevated. And it always was. The point is, we all have bad weeks at work, does that mean we all deserve to be fired or traded? No. Lets just stick with them and see what they can do. Tha's what being a true fan is all about. I have been a Cubs fan for 25 years and have seen some really bad teams. This is not one of them. Just my input.

    Chad Fox, who left last night's game with an elbow injury that may end his season, is being replaced by 24-year old right-handed reliever Jose Ascanio, according to Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune.     Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Cubs are talking to the Orioles about a trade for Ryan Freel. As Rosenthal points out, the Cubs have more oufield depth than expected, thanks to Micah Hoffpauir and Kosuke Fukudome. Joey Gathright, who has batted only 14 times this year, is expendable.     This kinda feels like the first half of Lous first year. Then they got hot. This is what being a Cubs fan is all about. :wink:

    Last night I was really hoping to see him in the game instead of Marmol after Cotts put the 2 guys on. Using Marmol in that spot is just going to cause problems down the line. I wanted to see Cotts get out of it on his own. At that point the Cubs had a big enough lead and with the wind blowing the way it was, just let him pitch his way out of it. IMO, Marmol should not have been used. As Len and Bob pointed out, the Cubs are starting a stretch of 20 straight games. Rest Marmol when you can.
