  1. Rondon almost certainly is Joe said something last night he'd have to talk to chapman because he didn't know how common it is for him to go 3 days in a row/wanted to know how he felt Hope he doesn't talk to him via Blanco or he's gonna think Chapman's too tired to pitch.
  2. Unrelated: anyone want my 2 tickets in section 425 for tonight? You can have them for face -- PM me.
  3. WHOOSH oh COME ON. that was sarcastic? play it up a little more, man! When the rain is wet, the humor is dry.
  4. There isn't supposed to be any rain after about 6:30-7. Maybe there's a delay but they are definitely getting this one in i suppose everyone has a "rondon fan" moment. that was constablerabbit's. WHOOSH
  5. Looking at the weather, I seriously doubt we get this one in.
  6. horsefeathers it let's make Chapman a starter.
  7. Players being ok with it doesn't mean much to me. Sports culture is ok with a lot things that society at large isn't, or shouldn't, be ok with. A man who's been accused of rape, sexual assault, and quid pro-quo sexual favors by multiple women was elected as POTUS for two consecutive terms and remains one of the most admired politicians of the last 50 years. I don't think it's limited to sports culture. People choose to ignore bad behavior when it suits their own needs.
  8. the olympics have become really unwieldy with the number of sports that have been added, and the requirement that individual cities have to build world class facilities in a lot of sports that aren't even played in that city or country. IMO the olympic committee would be well served to move to more of a soccer world cup-style format, where a country or even partnership of countries host the games, rather than the entire financial and logistical burden falling on a single city. a lot of cities are starting to figure out that it's not worth the cost and hassle, which is why you end up terrible options like beijing and almaty, kazakhstan being the finalists to host a winter olympics. I really don't think Almaty is a terrible option, especially relative to Beijing.
  9. Different sources, I guess: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cost_of_the_Olympic_Games
  10. Olympics held in the US are typically profitable. I believe Lake Placid is the exception to the rule. Mayor Daley boondoggles on the other hand... Meh, a successful businessman was running it, so hard to say.
  11. These last years would have been hell if Chicago had gotten them. But I'd be trilled to have all the infrastructure improvements going forward. I wouldn't be thrilled at having declared bankruptcy a couple years ago. Olympics held in the US are typically profitable. I believe Lake Placid is the exception to the rule.
  12. LOL horrible answer. I mean.. was "no comment" too much?
  13. There are far too many horrible and/or likely horrible people in professional sports for me to care anymore. I have accepted that pro athletes are largely not role models and separate my appreciation for athletic prowess/ability with the individual personalities. It really sucks that Chapman is an outstanding player because it'd be easy to not have him on the Cubs. But, I'm not willing to trade my love for my favorite team for an in-principle-only cheer boycott or similar action that won't affect whether he plays baseball or continues to be a pro athlete. Everyone is entitled to their own stances and own opinions -- there's just a ton of room for hypocrisy (the Castro point is a good one) and I don't have the time or energy to vet every athlete whose team I may cheer for for past transgressions, crimes, and/or behavior/accusations that would classify them as "likely bad." And no disrespect to those that do.
  14. maybe this place? http://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/2014/4/15/5616576/cubs-oasis-yankees-town Thanks. I was thinking about it... Just notthat close and it's storming. Beggars cant be choosers I guess
  15. I'm stuck in NY tonight and my office is near Times Square (Iknow). Anyone familiar with any good baseball or Cubs bars in the area where I could catch the game tonight?
  16. Guess he wasn't that good.
  17. Eh, I don't remember seeing another one with Soler attached, other than hers to begin with. Ok. There's also been rumors about Warren and Candelario that have been shot down. Plenty of crazy rumors out there. I just think she gets a lot of unfair criticism. A lot of the criticism she gets is unfair, but that doesn't change the fact that she's objectively bad.
  18. Nice LLF shoutout!
  19. I still can't believe Bruce is in this game.
  20. I horsefeathering love watching Miller.
  21. Quick someone make a gif of that Zobrist Fowler shot.
