  1. i believe that game was in pittsburgh and wasn't that a 1-0 or 2-1 game? i remember it being VERY close. Yeah, I think this is the game. Wow, to think we went into the home stretch, 9 games to go 87-66, we went on to lose 7. Makes me sick. Then again, that was the year we had to play something like 24 games in 22 days because of hurricane rain delays.
  2. QFT, except Hawkins. I'll never forget that game (I think it was cin) where he almost blew the game and gave up a shot to the gap, and then sammy made the catch of his career, and laid out to make a spectacular grab. And then Hawkins blew it the next inning or something.
  3. True, but who has the cooler name?
  4. Can't compete with The Who. Too powerful.
  5. I like both, but Sabbath did a lot more for Rock. I think of CSNY more as folk music. A song like "Our House" or "Wind on the Water" just isn't rock to me. (And that's not to say that I don't think they're good songs, either)
  6. I don't have insider anymore, but the title of Buster Olney's blog this morning was "Reds did well in acquiring bullpen help" I hope that was sarcasm and that he wasn't actually saying they made a good deal.
  7. I have thus far failed to see what the big deal is about Tool. I've never heard anything of theirs that impressed me much.
  8. After reading the article and looking at the stats, this turned out to be a very helpful list, TT. I only wish my friends would give it a chance. It's so frustrating trying to explain sabrmetrics to individuals who are so closeminded to the idea.
  9. Brown Sugar, Angie, Wild Horses, Angie, Happy, Beast of Burden, She's So Cold, Can't You Hear Me Knocking, You Can't Always Get What You Want, etc. Those are all post-1960s. I know it's not as much as they might have had during that decade, but that's a hefty amount of good rock hits. Basically, all of Sticky Fingers and all of Exile on Main St make post-60s Stones still really good. There's a lot of crap mixed in, but the hits are still hits. They did get into some absolute garbage in the late 70s, but give them credit for not getting killed off like so many bands did when disco came along.
  10. Servais listed twice and no love for Damien Miller? Harsh! :D
  11. Josh Gibson could hit. His numbers are amazing, and I would have love to have seen him play (and end up in the MLB) but I don't think we can include players from other pro-baseball leagues in a Major League Baseball best players list -- it gets too complicated.

  13. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Unfortunately, it's gotta be Led Zeppelin. It kills me, but they're just the better band here,
  14. He already is one of the top catchers in baseball. If he improved his defense he would arguably BE the top catcher. Piazza was arguably the top catcher in baseball and his defense was not much better than Barrett's is, imo. I don't think his defense is so bad that it severely discredits or takes away from his offense.
  15. But don't forget the grandaddy song of modern thrash rock! "Helter Skelter"... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1NJdiJXSvA I tend to like the Beatles' less pop-iconized hits better. "Helter Skelter" is much better than "Hello, Goodbye" or "She Loves You" imo.
  16. NOBODY CARES, AGAIN!! READ THE NAME OF THE THREAD AGAIN!!! Done. Do you realise how stupid your post looks yet? Have you read the whole thread yet? I'm not exactly the only one that thinks it's stupid that CubsBullsBears seems to care more about the White Sox and Cardinals losing than the Cubs winning and bashes those two teams every single chance he gets. That's what I was responding to. Would you like me to change my post so it says (sans all caps of course) "Very few people care"? Would that make you feel better? How about this: why don't you criticize everybody whose point of view disagrees with what the topic is dealing with. Because the last time I checked you didn't do that. Until you do that, don't criticize me. Miss the point much? Why wouldn't people care if the Tigers win in a thread call the GO TIGERS thread? Who cares if CBB hates the Cards and Sox, its his choice. Hardly. I'm just quoting this because I want to see that pic again. I mean, even if you don't think you got owned, you have it admit: it's awesome.
  17. I very may well have misread those charts, but doesn't that article also say that Griffey is the worst CF, A.Jones is below average, and Pierre is the 4th best?
  18. I always thought of And Justice for All as fantastically artistic----probably the most artistic of any thrash Metal ever, unless you start counting some of the underground stuff (which really isn't heard by many outside of very select circles of die hards). Hmm the only song I've listened to on that album is "One". Maybe I'll check it out
  19. I like Pink Floyd, a lot. Yet, I get weirded out while listening to them. The random noises and screaming is just really... weird. I really like to have them on at a party playing in the background. It's great and calming especially at the end when everyone's drunk and chilling together.
  20. Yeah, I can't see them meeting much competition. Metallica is taking somebody out. They better...Best band ever! (IMO) And I agree with Goony on this one... Well, it's gonna be tough, because a lot of people still haven't forgiven Metallica for Napster.... but they truly are the best band ever, regardless of St Anger (which is still better than a lot of the junk some of the newer bands put out.) They're talented, but every other song sounds the same to me, as an all out rock song, or a ballad. I really like Master of Puppets the best, Orion is epic. Yeah, MoP and Orion are probably the best songs I've ever heard... and yes, that's my bias-love towards Metallica kicking in. EDIT: Oh, and I will agree that a lot of their stuff does sound alike. Ktulu. I don't concede the last point. To the consternation of many diehards, Metallica keeps finding ways to break the mold. Ktulu is good too. I was actually just listening to the S&M set in the car today, which is my favorite Metallica compilation (except theres no Orion). I don't think of them as particularly artistic or anything, but they're a good band when you just wanna rock, and aren't whiny like AC/DC, imo.

  22. Which Gary Matthews Jr. will people see next year? Defensively he is great, but offensively will it be a continuation of what he is doing this year or will he revert back to what he was in previous years? If he's on the Cubs, he reverts back. If he's not on the Cubs, he continues what he's doing this year. "Daaaaaaaad! Stop ruining my career!"
  23. That's what you get for "being aggressive". I can't believe Trachsel is still playing. He's only 35 but he seems so much older.
  24. Yeah, I can't see them meeting much competition. Metallica is taking somebody out. They better...Best band ever! (IMO) And I agree with Goony on this one...
