  1. Bill James has Santo as the 6th greatest third baseman of all time. Sosa's ranking at RF is 19th greatest of all time right fielders through 2003, and it's pretty clear that what he did in 2004-2005 did not boost him much. His win shares per year are basically equal to Sosa, and his OPS+ is only 4 points lower than Sosa. When you consider that Santo played a premium defensive position, and played it at a Gold Glove level, while Sosa was no better than average in RF. It's really easy to argue that Santo was better than Sosa. Is it unthinkable that outfielders might be so much better offensively than third basemen that maybe the 19th best RF is still better than the 6th best 3B?
  2. Guys, be sensitive. According to Hendry, Spier's drinking problems have had severly adverse effects on the team, causing them to suck and miss the playoffs. They're so embarrassed by him that they avoid reaching third.
  3. 1. Banks 2. Sosa 3. Anson 4. Brown 5. Williams I left Wilson off because he only spent 6 seasons on the team and they weren't all amazing. Perhaps if he had a few more productive years (which I think he would have) I would have put him on.
  4. You're right: Where's Anson? Three-Finger Brown>>Fergie
  5. The reason it sounds ridiculous is probably due to the fact that it's a rumor.
  6. how do you live knowing you are so wrong Make your case. I'm listening. well it's a waste of breath arguing opinions, but I didn't want Skynyrd to win the first round much less this one. I think they are a niche, hillbilly band who have been idolized by the NASCAR crowd. Now they are a travelling cover band I would argue that they helped revolutionize the southern rock genre. (By the way, ZZ Top should've been in this, but that's another argument). Just because hillbillies like them doesn't mean they are a "hillbilly band". Yeah, they're from the country and respect the Stars and Bars, but what does that have to do with their music? I feel like that's about as valid as me calling Queen a "gay band". And as far as now is concerned, they have the name, but they're not really Skynyrd... three of the original band members were tragically killed in 1977 (i think) and they didn't reunite until 10 years later. They are still writing and playing original music, so I wouldn't really call them 100% cover. Regardless, I don't think where they stand now has much bearing on this tournament as their influence and hits were made before the plane crash.

  8. Only if he's played by Will Smith
  9. Not a huge fan of either, but I went with the Eagles. Good driving music band.
  10. Skynyrd's just better. Much better. Queen's good, but they sing about bikes too much. Not very "rock". That Smell Tuesday's Gone The Ballad of Curtis Loew What's Your Name Gimme Three Steps All I Can Do Is Write About It Simple Man Freebird! etc.
  11. I miss how Felix Heredia used to do that weird thing with his elbow when fixing his sleeve.
  12. Wasn't it Ozzie who so eloquently said "F the cubs?" "F the Cubs" means something different in Venezuela. Ozzie listens to Rap music and watches the animal channel. So he hears and sees "F" a lot. It's only natural.
  13. maybe, but imagine the outrage had I left him out Probably almost as bad as the outrage for Tom Petty has been. well I would argue that Tom Petty doesn't rock that much more than CSNY, whom people have repeatedly say don't belong in a rock tourney American Girl has more rock than all of CSNY's hits combined. TP & H are definitely a rock band and belong in this tourney! /rant
  14. I don't recall giving any express written consent for you to steal my quote like that.
  15. SWEET IDEA. Then lets get alou and bat them Pierre Alou Tavares. Or, 4-3 5-3 6-3, if you willl. Think of the check swing/weak grounder potential!
  16. They were so damn impressive in that first series.
  17. I heard he does it with IMPLIED ORAL concent. Bart: So Major League Baseball has been spying on us for over a decade? McGwire: Do you really want to know the terrifying truth? Or do you wanna see me hit some DINGERS?
  18. neil young should be considered separately though. He's got some great hits, but no solo artists in this tournament.
  19. What I gathered from his chat is that he thinks that this is reflective of the current market for relief pitching. If so, we really should be selling some of our relievers. So Rusch might be underpaid?  If that is the case my wife throws lefthanded. I know from personal experierence. Maybe Ozzie can bring here in to face Blalock or something
  20. MLB Official: Muhahaha! Did you actually think you could retransmit and reproduce without the express written consent of Major League Baseball?
  21. Less time than it would take Slap Nasty or Freddy Bynum to run from 1st to the dugout after grounding out to pitcher or second. perhaps this is old by now but SPEED NEVER SLUMPS!!!111
  22. So how long does it take for this thread to go to 100 pgs upon Dusty's cannage?
