  1. Count me as someone who's not looking forward to facing Dunn and Carlos Lee back-to-back 40+ times per year.
  2. Yes, but none work as well as testosterone, or synthetic testosterone, or pro-hormones (some of which were legal then, like andro). You can buy creatine all day and use it in any league, but it's not gonna give you the results steroids will. I believe Andro was legal for a long time, and that can do a lot.
  3. I don't think there's real incentive to dig anything up on Sosa. He's not playing anymore and kind of vanished. This just makes Ken Griffey's accomplishments all the more impressive. Looking at that normal-dude body, there's no way he used anything. Steroids don't make you huge, they just significantly reduce your recovery time. You'd still have to work out a crapload to get big.
  4. And I'm not just saying that because he's a Northwestern grad. Interesting perspective on how a pitcher moves through the minors. He's into sabermetrics, too. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=8472
  5. Northwestern in the tourney? Believe it. http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/story/11233762
  6. http://usctrojans.cstv.com/sports/w-volley/mtt/killian_lauren00.html I think she's hot. 6'1, thin, fit, and an athlete herself? Sign me up.
  7. NU > Minnesota > Illinois I smell a conference championship baby!
  8. I guess that's another way of thinking of it. I just worry about keeping everyone fresh and stretched out in case of injury or ineffectiveness.
  9. wow he's even more fragile than i thought lol
  10. Are we getting ahead of ourselves when we assume Marshall can just take over Marquis' load seamlessly? I love Marshall, but the guy has never thrown over 125 innings in a season in his career. Is he durable enough to give us 180-200 IP?
  11. Are we sure Heilman wouldn't be going in the deal? It seems to un-Cubs like to get rid of lefties. If we trade Marshall and Olson in the Peavy deal, it would leave Cotts as the only LHP in the bullpen.
  12. Hope it's true, but I wouldn't really trust a site that can't even get the guy's last name right.
  13. I'd put them at .500 or slightly over.
  14. I've actually tried to figure it out myself. She's not very attractive and is pretty much just skin and bones. And who's her brother? I don't know, but when she first hit it big, there were all these weird stories about her relationship with her brother. They'd apparantly kiss somewhat passionately, and there were incestuous stories. I was kidding a bit, but it's still part of her skanky persona. I always thought that was blown out of proportion when she closed-mouth kissed her brother on the lips at an awards show. The fact that he looks just like her creeps me out more than anything... http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2004/04/gallery/ajolie/08ajolie.jpg
  15. perhaps with the bad economy people have decided to cut obscenely-overpriced athletic wear out of their lives. Under Armour first came out they pretty much had the "market" to themselves with that line of clothing. Now "Nike" is pretty much worn through-out the clubhouses. As previously stated by somebody else, I to had some under armour shirts and they were terrible after a few washes. Is it me or does all athletic gear made of that nylonish material always stink like butt after a few wears? Every time I get a pair of warmups, or a lightweight jogging shirt, or anything after a few wears and washes it just smells like dirty gym clothes, no matter if it's been washed or not. Is there no technology to make that horrid stink go away? Wool is the most expensive, but it's the best. Warmest, longest-lasting, and doesn't ever smell bad. I have a few pair of wool workout shirts and pants. They were about $80/each, but well worth it, especially as an undergarment for skiing or for jogging when it's cold out. I hate wool. Too itchy. At least the stuff the Army gives you is. I never bought anything wool like that on my own.Well yeah, I'm sure the stuff the Army gets is itchy. The stuff that's pricey is more comfortable than poly-propeline or any other synthetic.

  17. I think he was using 100% for the sake of argument. We're not 100%, but we're a pretty high pct. as of right now.
  18. Innocent until proven guilty. Just ask Rogers Clemens and Rod Blagojevich. Except no one has ever made a legitimate case against Sosa except "He had muscles and hit a lot of homers and spoke Spanish in front of Congressmen!" I don't think it's the fact that Sammy had muscles but that he put on a tremendous amount of muscle, during an era when many players were using steroids, that makes people suspicous. Bonds and McGwire defenders used the muscles doesn't equal steroids defense too. They aren't as vocal about it anymore. Still, compared to the group of definite roiders, Sammy doesn't have anything on him. He wasn't ratted out like Clemens. He didn't plead the 5th and have his brother say he did them like McGwire. He didn't fail a test like Palmeiro. He wasn't part of a federal investigation exposing him like Bonds or Giambi. You can't automatically place him in that group and I think it's unfair to do so. If you want to use the corked bat against him, be my guest. It doesn't really help a player that much (if at all), but he did intend to cheat by using it. Should a corked bat keep him out of the hall of fame? I say no. You can disagree.

  20. Because AL teams play 90% of their games against other AL teams and NL teams play 90% of their games against other NL teams. Schedules aren't of even strengths, either. A better record between two teams only shows how much that team dominated their own league (mostly their own division). It doesn't necessarily mean they're a better team than a team from a different league with 2-3 less wins. Now we're going to penalize teams based on their difficulty of their division/league based on that particular year? It's not an awful idea, but I don't think it's the obvious logical choice. then what is? im certainly open to other ideas. that just seems to be the best bet to me, by a fairly wide margin. Oh I have no idea what the best option is. I don't know if there's an obvious choice, which I guess is why we're having this discussion in the first place. From a marketing standpoint, the All-Star game deal is a huge success. I think I'd be more in favor of it if fans didn't select starters and not every team was guaranteed a player. Not to mention the fact that managers try to get every player in the game. In fact, if they managers selected all of the players and played them like it was a real game, I think the AS game format would be awesome.

Also, I think their schedules are a little more balanced than in the MLB, no?
