  1. Fecal League Standings update: http://espn.go.com/mlb/standings/_/group/9 Cubs tied for the 5th pick, 1.5 back of the 4th pick, 3 games out of the 3rd pick, 4.5 back of the 2nd pick. No chance at #1.
  2. Someone said that they are worried about Beane because everyone caught up and realized that OBP is undervalued, which is true. But what does that matter if he comes here with our payroll? Regardless of cost, when he can get his hands on his guys he targets (high OBP, etc.), it's a recipe for wins. Even though it's tougher for him to afford his kind of guys in Oakland now, it's a moot point here because he can afford them. For years we have been clamoring for our team to value his kind of players. Just because they aren't undervalued anymore doesn't mean they don't still hold tremendous value to winning. I'd say my list is: 1) Epstein 2) Friedman 2A) Beane 3) Cashman Admittedly, with nothing but my manlove for Beane being a reason as to why he's on the same level as Friedman.
  3. Javier Baez batting 2nd in Arizona. Flied out to right in his first AB. Starting at short.
  4. Thanks. Good stuff. Did you get to see any good grounders or anything that showed DeVoss' speed on the basepaths? I've been wondering if he's just a typical speedy guy or if he's extremely fast.
  5. If we just wait to call up Jackson next year, does that mean we get an extra cheaper year out of him? Or does that not apply since it's just a September call up?

  7. DeVoss 3/5 with 3 more singles.
  8. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2011/08/24/SPPT1KRH6F.DTL#ixzz1W3XfCQsc Maybe I just loved reading Moneyball too much but i'd still love Beane, even with the A's recent struggles. I'm not going to pretend to know much about how involved he is with Soccer, but if he legitimately wants this job, i'd trust that he'd put in the time.
  9. Here's a nice little article on Beane. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/24/sports/baseball/as-await-film-but-without-the-ending-they-wanted.html?_r=2&ref=sports
  10. DeVoss is doing his thing...4/4 with a BB and a HBP. 2 bunt singles.
  11. DeVoss 2/3 with a double and run so far. Boise has put up 6 through 4 innings.

  17. Just to throw a name out there I thought Andrew McCutchen. Sadly, another name was Juan Pierre, but Juan Pierre wouldn't be a bad outcome for an 18 year old HS kid in the big picture...A purely LH Bernie Williams also came to mind. Anyway, he might be my favorite draft pick. For some reason I get the feeling his talent got overshadowed by sheer numbers in this draft. Hopefully they sign him. This sounds like crazy talk, but I'd prefer signing him to Maples if it had to come to that. He's drawn a Kenny Lofton comp from some people in terms of style. McCutchen could be nice. Obviously we're just throwing names out there in terms of similar style and not saying he will definitely be that. But potentially. I still think he has alot more power (at least doubles) potential than we've seen from him so far though...once he fills out a bit more.
  18. Dunston tweeted yesterday that we should know his decision today. Joeyb and another poster are saying he's going to sign (JoeyB said first round money). Sweet. I honestly don't one bit care if we overpay, it's nice to see this be a priority for once. On Dunston, I really like what I see from the videos i've watched. I think he could be a good one. Extremely fluid at everything.
  19. Yeah I'm as excited as the next guy to see the Cubs spending on amateurs, but somehow giving 3rd round money to a 10th round talent that's been taken twice in the 20's just doesn't seem like smart business. While true, at the end of the day it's like 200k that probably wouldn't be better spent elsewhere. As it's been said, overspending under a million dollars on something that might payoff big is nothing compared to overspending by millions and millions on major league talent.
  20. Can anyone tell me when we normally make our Pac-Rim signings?
